Guys, I have been facing an issue since last few days which seem to be solved now by changing spark plug. But i want to know what is the reason behind it. This happened to me twice so far in last 1 year.

Bike is almost 4 year old 17100km done.

Problem : when engine is warm/hot. Bike's engine behaves like hitting reserve tank (ie: minor jerks, engine looses power) shuts down at idle, idle rpm fluctuates, throttle response from idle to 3000 becomes very poor, I have to keep it above 3000 to avoid those jerks and the possibility of stalling. Strangely, if i park the bike for like 10-15 mins, this issue sometimes vanishes even after engine is heated again. But it usually returns back.

When did i faced this issue:

1. at 12,000km odo last year: Solved it by changing spark plug and air filter (spark plug was 12000km old by then)

2. Now, at 17,100km : Spark plug is 5000 km old, changed it and problem seems to be solved right now. Filter was changed 1000km ago.

Possible reasons of this problem?

1. Carb : Never cleaned or opened since i bought the bike. But if carb was causing this problem, how did replacing filter and spark plug solved it last time?

2. Spark plug: Bike is probably missing spark due to some problem. 2nd plug developed this problem in 5000km only which is weird. sparkplug head/tip seems fine without any excess carbon/oil deposit But There are some greenish copper oxide like deposits and minor iron rust on the tail of the spark plug, is that the reason of this problem? can this rust stop the plug from getting enough current to create a good spark?

I am attaching the photos of my spark plugs, left one is 5000km old right one is 12000km old, both developed this problem.

What exactly is the culprit?

Other two photos shows minor oil leak on cyl head and the pipe that connects carb to cylinder has developed yellowish colour near the cylinder part, is that normal?

Check for following:

Water in tank, jammed choke cable, faulty spark plug cap, adulterated fuel, engine running lean.
The real beauty lies in throttle's twist!!

Headlight can be replaced, Head cannot be. Wear a helmet.

Hello Friends ,
After 2.6 years Bike ODO 14000 Km completed Running Motul 7100 20w50. Bike mileage 35-40 Kmpl. I ride in 90% in traffic cruzing 50-60 most of the time .Engine was butter Smooth and gear shift was also Smooth. . Now the Problem is arising
1. Bike Vibrating alot.
2. At above 60km speed bike tends to loose power.
3. Bike pick-up is gone totally, I have to revive the bike little bit to attain speed .

On May month I changed the following:
1. Air Filter
2. Spark Plug
3. Throttle Wire
4. Clutch Wire

Now Today went Okhla main service center for Servicing my bike they took a ride about 1km, after the test ride they came up that clutch plates are culprit and I have to change the clutch plates , so that engine and gear shift become smooth again and Pick-ups will be improved. In the time of Service he didn't open the engine to check the clutch plates.

Now I have no idea How my clutch plates are gone so earlier 14K, I ride my bike and shift the gears lower rpms and most of the time I avoid Riding my bike with clutch engaged. The Mechanic told me that your Bike has around 2-3years now and your Bike is asking for some Karcha .
Please help me out What should I do now , Should Changing my clutch plates will remove the problems.

No major problems came till this days only small bike part are changed as per manual. Please can anyone help me out.

hgps.. there is rust and dirt on the spark plug. Try changing the spark plug cap. Spark plug should be clean, not like this.
bikashnayak.. unless you ride with half pressed clutch, the plates can't be damaged. Try visiting another service station and ask for their advice. Also, their logic that bike will ask for 'kharcha' as its 2-3 year old is plain idiotic.

Ride safe and have fun.

I will be checking my bike to another authorized service center and from local mechanic not far from my house. The local mechanic shop only deals with Yamaha Bikes.
And I don't Ride half Pressed Clutch. Well will be updating the suggestion/problem told by the Mechanic.
Thank you.

Life of clutch plates solely depends on how one rides. They can wear out at 1k kms or at 20k kms also.

1k kms ? I haven't heard of an case like that. How rash can one ride for clutch plate to give up in such short time.

Hai

1. Firstly check whether you are using the correct spark plug. The recommended spark plug is NGK CPR8EA-9. If not immediately change them.
2. Remove the spark plug cap cover and clean the tip. If possible slight cut of the tip a bit. it is only cable but do not cut off too much because the length can be a problem. Change the plug cap cover it is not that costly. The green rust is from the cable. Since the cable is made of copper.
3. Clean your Air filter once in 2000 - 3000 kms. This will help the engine to breath easily. The DIY is available in the DIY section. It is very simple.
4. Water in the tank is also another culprit. Just remove all the fuel from the tank in to a clear bottle. After empting all the fuel. Check the bottom of the bottle. Water is heavier than petrol so it will settle in the bottom of the bottle. If you find any water at the bottom. I would suggest you remove the entire tank and add some petrol( 200 to 300 ml) and rinse it thoroughly and remove the whole content by keeping the tank upside down. By doing this you will remove even the small dirt that is inside the tank.

Cheers

1. Check the free play of the clutch. Free play means when applying the clutch lever, is there a free movement of the clutch before it engages. The free play must be 10-15mm. If the free play is not available please adjust the screw available in the clutch lever. Free play is important because if free play is not available then your clutch is
2. Check whether there is any more adjustment available in the clutch setting. What I mean is are you able to tighten the clutch cable. If there is very little scope of adjustment it means that your clutch plate are nearing wear limit.
3. When riding your bike say at about 3000 to 4000 RPM in top gear. Does your bike just accelerates and do not thrust forwarded. This also means that your friction material in your clutch plates are nearing it end of life since they are slipping.

When i pull the choke (ie: engage the choke), RPM increases to around 3000rpm and slowly gets back to 2000rpm. When i disengage choke, rpm settles down to 1300rpm (idle).
