Well the issue here is that, the FZ is designed as a Streetfighter. Streetfighters are designed as sportbikes with minimal bodwork. FZ's power and torque delivery is made for low and mid-range performance and gearing is just too short for serious touring. For touring one needs a bike with high torque and power numbers with taller gearing. Second, for touring it is vital for the bike to have a fairing with windshield. Too much windblast on the chest and neck is also one reason that the FZ is not siutable for touring. Installing FZS bikini fairing is not going to do any good as it is useless at speeds in excess of 70km/hr" and last but not the least FZ's steering geometry is agressive and too much pressure is put on the wrist. For touring look forward for the ZMR, Fazer, Avenger 220 or Bullet.Originally posted by raghavtlwr View PostLast edited by freekoo; 09-06-2010, 11:08 PM.

Your mileage calculation is accurate only. Tank full to tank full method. But the number you are getting is wayyyy too low. I got about 37 during run-in which was itself considered low. I hope you are keeping the rpm limits as mentioned in the book.Originally posted by hemantbetala View PostWell guys I got my FAZER on 13th August....
Did a tank fulll ~12 litres.....
Covered 302 kms .... the reserve indicator (only fuel logo blinks) on the fuel meter started blinking....I am shocked...
Refilled the tank today....
Did a tank full .... which was with 11.95 litres
So the mileage has come up to 27.58 km/litre..
I guess tats way too low...
1. Is it due to the Run-In period...and can i expect it to increase afer 1st or 2nd service...
Any comment...suggestions...experiences....
Only suspect is someone stealing fuel. Or the carb is tuned for a richer mixture.
For me after 1st service the mileage only dropped as I used to rev it high.Everyone falls down, doesn't matter...
But its how fast you get up, that matters.....

guys earlier i had mentioned over here the slight increase in acceleration due to ngk iridium spark plug.......nd i want to tell u that it does increase the performance of the bike........today itself i was shocked when i smoked a pulsar 200 on a drag.............i was waiting at da signal and da guy halted his p200 rite next to me and gave me a look.......(still dunno y)
n started reving the bike.......as soon as the signal turned green.......we both just zoomed and i was surprised to see i took him over in da second gear itself.........i was surprised to see my bike reaching the 65km/hr mark in da second gear itself n dat too in less den 5 seconds....(i dint count it but m sure it was under 5)........
i just love my beast.........

of course you beat him.... fz is amazing in lower and mid range.... had you continued the race longer than 15-20 seconds the p200 would have overtaken you..... you could feel after 90-95 that the bike lacks power and it takes a good amount of time to reach its top speed.... although people have gone upto 132kmph on fz (speedo reading) somebody took a picture at that speed with a mobile cam....Originally posted by romil_joshi06 View Postguys earlier i had mentioned over here the slight increase in acceleration due to ngk iridium spark plug.......nd i want to tell u that it does increase the performance of the bike........today itself i was shocked when i smoked a pulsar 200 on a drag.............i was waiting at da signal and da guy halted his p200 rite next to me and gave me a look.......(still dunno y)

from what i have heard and read the aftermarket air filters gives you only a characteristic sound and some minor power gain which to most of the people is not even noticeable and again to get that minor power gain you will have to re-jet the carb which again is a big pain to find the right sized jets....Originally posted by senotrius View Postapparently there are 3 good aftermarket air filters for fz..the popular k/n,green cotton and pipercross...which one the best or any differences btn them??user feedbacks if any?

+100 its absolutely correct there won't be any noticeable power gain change even if you do the upjetting(unless you do anything serious on the engine part) also and one who does the upjetting should be experienced enough to tune the bike properly else it will cause the bike to go kaput...Originally posted by kinshuk.arya View Postfrom what i have heard and read the aftermarket air filters gives you only a characteristic sound and some minor power gain which to most of the people is not even noticeable and again to get that minor power gain you will have to re-jet the carb which again is a big pain to find the right sized jets....

Best is to stay away from Filters.
getting even a decent improvement from filters require a long term experiment with diff. jet size and tuning.
and until then you are harming the engine!Smoke rubber, not tobacco.

yes tick tick sound is there, that is because the engine will be cooling.
But i dint get the logic behind the burning smell
.
I am also facing downshift problems..
Dont know whether these are common probs with new bike.
