    Brother you are not alone my ride is like this for almost two years now. None of the SVCs able to fix this as after the service the sound vanishes for couple of days.Its probably the tappets being set wrong,none of the mechanics or Service center got this issue fixed it for me. Bit scared to do it myself as this is the only ride I have dont want to spoil it.Do let me know if you find a solution

      Hey friends, my ride had clocked almost 18500kms, running fine with no repair work on the engine till date. For a few kms I am feeling that the engine is slightly noisier than earlier , you can say that the sound is slight harsh after running for a few kms. Acceleration is ok as it runs smoothly at 100ish speeds with a pillion, however sometimes it feels that there is a power loss by a negligible margin though. A friend of mine affirmed my doubt regarding Tappets being loose. So its for sure that I need to get them corrected but how do I know whether they are loose or tight and also once I get them corrected in the SVC what I must take care of that the work done by the guy is correct if not perfect. We all know how svc's screw up out rides, therefore just being cautious I need to know the clearance measurements of the inlet and outlet valves.

        Please drop a mail or visit the shop asap as this accident might have played haywire with the symmetry of ur bike's chasis as well. Please get it checked too and if required get it changed.
        Though it feels as if you should get your carb, carb hose, air filter and box primarily checked again and all other parts of the bike keenly observed and checked by a trained mech at the SVC only.

        If you have changed the cylinder block then you should have opted for a better running in procedure of keeping the speed band within rpm range. Either ways Yamaha workshop should offer a viable solution.

        Thanks for the advise. Actually after the check up Service Center guy told Clutch Plate is too tightened and Everything is Okay now!!

          Just asking.. How on earth does a fzs\16 run smooth at 100ish with a pillion? I've owned two fzs and past 90-95 the stock bike loses steam and crawls to about 110 tops, that too without pillion. The engine definitely runs stressed past 95-100 and is definitely out of its comfort zone.

            Fz16 waala public!!! what is the cruising speed of the bike when on long tours. Can the bike take the speeds of 90-100 continously..? If not what should be the optimum speed where the bike is stress free. Now I do know that 80% of the bike's potential you can use as they develop the max power and torque in that range. But I am interested in actual figures.

              I meant it crosses the 100-110 speeds actually. Yes, thats true about engine being stressed up, but there is no trouble running at those speeds for a while or so. Not constantly 100ish bro. As per speedometer it even touches 121 mark sometimes (speedo error may be). My only concern is the slight noise. Thats why asked the question.

                I would recommend 70-85 kms for optimum speed. The engine is not stressed at these speed and you can cruise at these speeds for hours together. Just from my experience.

                  The stock FZ can cruise between 80-85 all day long. That's its stress free zone, beyond that it starts losing steam and upon hitting 90+ sustained continuously, the engine starts to grunt and run harsh. I don't give a crap about top speed but it can reach a top whack of 110 but takes ages to reach there.



                  I own one and was dejected at its fast-ish cruising capabilities. So went ahead and modded it with a 15t front sprocket, K&N, iridium plug, split firing cable and lastly, clutch plates from the Cbr 250r. Now it cruises around 95 all day and hits 100 before 7200RPM (which is 80% of your redlining 9000RPM)

                    It may sound stupid but I got this idea after i saw centuro ad.
                    Can we apply that lock in any other motorcycle??

                          FZ-S, FZ-16 (version 1) is purely city oriented bike, you can surely move around at 4000rpm (i.e. 54kmph) to 6000rpm (i.e. 80kmph) with no engine stress. But, if you twist the throttle more, you feel engine to be stressed, (other manufacturers starts vibs at that rpm, not yamaha though, good point ). Your querry is absolutely correct, after 95+ on speedo, it struggles to pull, i.e. stressed.
                          To add more grip on the stock MRF Revz unit (140/60 R17), you may fill Nitrogen, which is very good for approx 2500kms or 2 months, this aids stability in Hot/Cold tyre conditions too.

                              Its normal for a well tuned fz to hit 110kmph with a pillion. I own a 2008 1st batch fz16 and it doesn't strain much from 90-110. Top speed i did on my bike is 130 kmph.

                                In that case surely the initial batch had better power delivery than the subsequent ones, which max out at around 110-115 and definitely sound and feel stressed beyond 90-ish. Frankly all I care about is relaxed cruising at around 90 whilst returning a decent 35+ mileage on highways, which a stock FZ just can't do - hence the mods!
