  • Replacing chain sprocket on FZ16 with 140/70 rear tyre

I tried looking up a thread to get solution for this problem, but in vain..so here it goes..

An year back, I replaced the rear stock tyre (MRF revZ,140/60-R17) with Continental ContiGO (140/70-R17) on my FZ16. Except for the reduced traction on wet roads, the tyre performs well on typical Indian roads and had me smiling for quite a while. But the shocker came in, during my last service when the technician hinted that the chain sprocket neared its end of life and needed to be replaced soon. He said that the new sprocket would not fit in, as the tyre surface would hit the chassis due to the increased height profile.(see attachment for the images)

One solution, would be to get the stock tyre back before changing to a new sprocket, but I do not want to part with my 140/70, since it is much less puncture prone than the stock tyre(7 damn holes, before I decided to dump it for good!). Alternately, I was thinking if I could get my hands on a sprocket with a smaller radius, that might resolve this issue. But then it would be impossible to tighten the chain any further(as it would already be at the farthest end of the chassis), when this smaller sprocket starts wearing out, right?

What are my options around this thing?

Front disk pads were glazed completely, rubbed them with sandpaper and refitted it. The front wheel now has some resistance from the pads and doesn't rotate freely. Took it for a short spin and noticed that, the disk was super hot. Is it because of rubbing the disk pads or some other issue has cropped up?

Both of my rear indicators were broken last year (thanks to an ar$ehole at parking lot). I used feviqvick to fix them and they are still doing great

Have been using feviquik since long, but off lately they have given up and i am not able to detach the rear indicator from wire. Don't know how to remove it from wire, else i would have glued it and used the same again

Hey all, gave my bike for repair yesterday. Asked them to change the bent rim and broken rear fender. The rim wasn't in stock, so would take a few days.
As for insurance claim, the person there didn't had a good idea on how much i would get back. Hope the deduction isn't much.
The price of rim is ₹3700.

Crossed 3500km on the Motul 5100 15w50. Replaced it with the same thing. No hiccups or the stretching feeling. In fact, hardly any difference from mineral oil. :/

Can we fit any other bike's Front Brake Pads? Even after removing the glaze from Brake Pads, it lacks that bite.

You have to wait a bit after rubbing the pads for the bite to return. But you can try using the pads from another Yamaha model. In fact most bikes that cone with the same callipers as your bike should have the same size and type pads which I think would be pretty much any 150cc bike. What type calliper do you have on the bike? If you can tell us we can give you an idea.

I guess every Bybre looks same from outside, not sure about its construction inside.

Ah bybre that means pulsar pads should fit. What is the dia of the disc? That is another important criteria for pad size. I think p220's pads should fit. See if you can get a couple of old p220 pads to compare size and shape.

                          Hi all,

I am a new member of this forum. I have been going through all the posts about fzs/fz16. I really like fzs v1 more than the v2. And I am planning on buying this bike in battlegreen color. But I just need the feedback of the fellow owners of this bike, whether should I go for the carb version, as version 2 is already here. Will the v1 be discontinued in the immediate future? If it is discontinued, will it effect the after sales service and spare availability?
                          Thanks and regards.

Rs. 4250 for MRF Revz Are you kidding me. I got MRF Revz-M for Rs. 3450 (in Mumbai). Check other tyre outlets.

Yamaha hasn't made any official comment on the same and I don't think they will discontinue. They might have adapted a wait and watch process to see the response to FZ V2 version in terms of Sales. Also, carb'd version has been selling for so many years. They will not discontinue it suddenly or say near future.

Most parts are shared between v1 and v2 so it will not be a problem. The carb one (fzs v1) is 14.5bhp but fi one (fzs v2) is 13bhp. The carb one is tried tested and reliable and the Fi one is the same with a little less power and crisp throttle responce. And the aforementioned are the only non cosmetic differences among the two bikes.

Thanks to both of you for replying. I am a new rider. I have only ridden splendour for 50-60 kms so far. So, is fzs a good bike to start with or should I start with 100cc bikes? I am 5'4" and weigh around 62 kgs.

                                Thanks and regards
