Re: Advice on, whether or not to buy a new tyre - Yamaha FZ
I think it is to prevent entry of water into the suction area during rainy season. It is just my guess.Originally posted by united View PostGuys what is the use of this rubber thing, no mention of it in the manual. Whats its purpose?

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Did oil change myself along with other minor cleaning. But the drained oil was only about 600-650ml
and this too after only 2000kms and with oil top-up in between. But there isn't any smoke to indicate rings wear.
Ride safe and have fun.

Depends on size but front and rear for fz should cost 2700/- and 3600/- respectively. Don't know prices where you're from but these are from Hyderabad MRF.

The oil changed was Motul 5100 (changed the oil at 2k kms as engine wasn't happy with it) and topped up with the same oil, nearly 100-150ml i think.Originally posted by devils_friend View PostWhich oil are you using? How much had you topped up?

When i was using Shell AX-7, on draining after 2.5k kms, even i noticed the amount of oil drained was less as compared to previous oils that I had used.Originally posted by nadz11.ns View PostThe oil changed was Motul 5100 (changed the oil at 2k kms as engine wasn't happy with it) and topped up with the same oil, nearly 100-150ml i think.
Check for any leakages near cylinder head, drain bolt, clutch area.

No leaks anywhere. Actually during last oil change also, the drained oil was less but the loss was low. But it was only 600-650ml which is too low.Originally posted by devils_friend View PostWhen i was using Shell AX-7, on draining after 2.5k kms, even i noticed the amount of oil drained was less as compared to previous oils that I had used.

How old is your bike and what speed do you usually pick up on it on a daily ride? In four strokes petrol burns the engine oil itself while lubricating the piston so of one litre oil used only 800ml oil should be left during oil change. Which is common unless you get it changed frequently say at only 2000kms while only riding in the city. Do check see if bike smokes a bit on first start. If so there is a easy fix but first check.

Nope, no smoke. Bike is couple of hundred kms short of 30kOriginally posted by Balgi View PostHow old is your bike and what speed do you usually pick up on it on a daily ride? I mostly change the oil at 2500-3000kms. And ya, its 800-900ml mostly. But ~650ml is quite low. This worried me. I ride only on Sundays and that too only on highway for some 200kms. Speeds are mostly 85-95km/h. Can this burn this much engine oil ?

From new does the bike feel less powerful. The diffrence will not be much but its there after 30k but if you feell power is reduced even a tiniest bit I suggest checking vale clearence and piston rings. These are the primary cause of burnt oil. And as these bikes are cat-con types the smoke will not be seen until its too far gone to salvage. Early I the morning just start the bike and don't idle but rev it to atleast 6k rpm and see. The smoke if it comes will not last more than 3 revs or 4. If so open head cover and replace o-ring over the unburnt fuel return outlet shouk stop oil problem return bike to original state. And in most cases under hard use these new bikes cylinder kits are lasting for only 30-40k kms (damn shame, but true). I hope its not that in your case. On a diffrent note, check the oil breather pipe to see it has its plug still in it. During use it can cause oil to leak just one drop at a time.
