  • Guys you will be amazed to know that my fz is giving the average of only 20-25 in normal driving condition. Drive only till 4k rpm and max speed of 52. Yesterday i drive roughly and i got the average of 30-35 really amazing. Max of 40 i think.

Is your bike still in the run-in period. I got only 37-38 in the run-in. after 1k km I'm seeing definitely an increase... Also to everyone, can anyone decode the fuel indicator for me?? there are 6 blocks and the tank capacity is 12L. Does that mean each block is 2L?? Coz i've seen the 5th block for a longer time than say the 3rd or the 2nd. Also what's the funda of the last block??? Is it always supposed to blink. I've the fuel tap to ON and when the fuel indicator goes from 2 block to 1st block the 1st block always blinks.... I thought it was supposed to blink only in reserve (which is what I've understood from the manual nyways..)

Also I've never turned the tap to reserve so far but when i open the tank I dont see any fuel in it... Is is possible for the reserve to be just the amount in the fuel pipes???
      Everyone falls down, doesn't matter...
But its how fast you get up, that matters.....

Hmm. trust me, if i had been on your end getting a mileage in 20's I wouldnt be happy too. At 1.9k you should be getting good mileages... Atleast in low 40s... I suspect the following (Others can add too)

            1. Driving style - too rash, quick accel and decels... (I personally drive a tad on the aggressive side in city, never exceeded 85 on highways, but I get decent mileages.)
            2. Fuel quality - Try different petrol bunks. Shell in b'lore is usually the best. But i've filled er up this time with Speed from BP. Got a whopping 119km for the 5th block (Now if some one could decode how much fuel is in the 5th block we'll know the real picture). But even it represents 3L (which I doubt) it translates to just under 40kmpl.
            3. Maintainance - U sure about the lubes and other stuff. (I reckon u r but just adding to my short list). Please check the tyres too. I check em once every 75km or so... (At one point when I had a puncture repaired was checking every day)

            • @dude_phenom & vinais : ditch the fuel gauge is my advice ... it's got a mind of it's own , calc the average and u know how much fuel u've put in , so calc the distance it can travel ... use the trip to judge then ... works easier than it looks guys .

Thanks for the reply, thats what I've been doing, but the reserve starts blinking at off times with a margin of abt 30 KM more or less, so its very irritating

Also, am not sure whether the last bar blinking means that reserve fuel is being used now or whether that the tank is close to being empty but still not using the reserve fuel. (i should turn the knob to reserve and then only that last 1.6 ltr will be used)

                • @dude_phenom & vinais :-
Guys guys, the last bar blinking in the fuel gauge does not mean your bike has hit
its reserve capacity....it simply means that you are low on fuel and need a refill
                  sooner than later....
Dont get confused....read the manual carefully....it does not mention that blinking of
the last bar means it's at reserve capacity....

The last bar blinking does not mean your bike's using the reserve capacity fuel....
in fact even when there is no bar...bike does not hit reserve until more 10kms.....
so dont trust the fuel gauge so much......just check out your trip distance from
reserve to reserve and you will get a fair idea of your fuel gauge....
trust me thats the only way....
                  cheers...

thats interesting , because when it blinks for me , there is atleast a margin of about 60-70km before it hits reserve ... i've checked the fuel tank once it starts blinking , found that there is still a substantial amount of fuel left , with regards to what i've filled ...

That's comforting... My previous ride didnt have a fuel guage... And my current ride has one that cannot be trusted....

But yeah the trip odo does help out... Got to use that. But one question though... When you guys put the tap to ON and when it runs out of the ON fuel then you turn to RESERVE right. My question is how much fuel (visible fuel) is left in the tank. I had seen only like 50-60mL of fuel in the tank and the fuel tap was still in ON... Any suggestions???

                      • More than the riding style i feel the problem is with the Bike and the Service Quality....... till 1st service even i use to get 38-42 KMPL, and i thought it was very decent mileage.... but suddenly after 1st service i got got a mileage of 25 KMPL i went to the service center and complaint abt it, they told the choke was ON and that was the problem, the service guy changed the setting but still i get a mileage of 35 KMPL with decent riding style and short burst of 65-75 speed.... i tried even harsh riding and still the mileage was same... its still 1.4K in the ODO and i expected a better mileage, i check the tyre pressure every week, used shell and indian oil petrol, but felt no difference in smoothness or either mileage..... So guys any solution for a better mileage

                          • guys to be frank if you were so worried about the mileage you should have bought some other bike as it is fairly clear from reviews that the FZ-16 is not your average bike......with that 140 rear and awesome performance its bound to give low mileage figures.....so live with it!!

Well neermsc, They arent complaining coz they aint getting 60-70 kmpl or even the Platina's 85-90 (Guys claim that, donno if its true though). They are complaining coz they arent getting what other FZ owners are getting. Of course the rear wheel is going to hit us quite bad in FE, from what I've read on this thread itself low to mid 40s should be normal and some guys have hit 50s too (though i think that was on the highway..). But quite honestly lot of factors have to be considered for FE. Guys there was this thread by the mods on maintaining good FE (think it was by Aryan). Please have a look at that. I did find it useful (though I dont follow all of em )

                              • Oil Change cost?

I got my FZ serviced today but I didn't change the oil as it has only been 800k since the last change. Please tell me what charge would i have to pay apart from oil cost if I go to a service center for only an oil change and no service.
