As a caution - dont try and bring the chain to company spec ( 20-40 mm play), but keep it slightly looser. Will prevent any damage to the chain or sprocket. Though the chain on the R15, is designed to run with new sprockets as well ( the sprocket set is sold individually).
Thanks jd , the FZ has run 5500 km n the R15 is a 1000km older , it doesn't matter does it ? coz i don't plan on holding the setup for long , jus to see the difference , so will it be okay ? the chain tensioning and then reverting back will it cause too much of a problem ?
People ask me , why are you cribbing about the BHP ? to them I say "MORE is never ENOUGH" xbhp.com

        • @ ALL :
Guys how many of you have used the semi-synth yamalube in their
          beloved FZ engines....
Pls share your experiences with it....coz i need to change the oil....
Heard that it doesnt last as long as Motul semi-synth(yeah u read it rite) even though its a rebadged motul....

And when i asked the SVC guy about Motul..hes like what....no foreign oil...only company oil(yamalube)...
else warranty void....i was shocked like WTF???? Since when did using other engine oil become harmful to the yamaha engines????

I think some of you guys have been using oils other than Yamalube, rite???
So didnt your SVC tell you anything about warranty issues?????

          • got my 1st servicing done yesterday. i was given an option of normal / semi synthetic engine oil and i chose the semi synthetic one. although the bike now feels a bit smoother, i somehow feel the power's lacking a bit now. the engine is also getting heated up a lot more now

NO. I personally dont think the warranty will get void by using other engine oil.. :P

                • @N-o-v-i-c-e

there is ABSOLUTELY no problem in using other Brand oils!!!
the guy who told you this is misinformed!i guess almost EVERY xbhpian goes for custom oils and no one has faced warranty issues,i have personally asked my SVC and they said no probs!

you can teach tht guy few things
1.YAMALUBE is also a "foreign" brand,so is "YAMAHA"
                  2.YAMALUBE=Motul
                  3.EVERY SVC allows custom oils.

also talk to another guy in the SVC

Don't talk, just change the oil to whatever brand you want (so long as it is of the right grade). I feel it's best not to discuss any work done on your bike that are in the gray areas of the warranty.

I asked the svc guys to do it. But, i know them well enough. If you dont know them well, better get it changed by a local mechanic.

no network connection for 2days just catching up

I've been using semi-synth yamalube in my Nov 09 Fz-s

She came delivered with mineral yamalube (as they all do) and at the 1st service I changed to the semi-snyth.

I had no problems with the mineral yamalube, just decided that I wanted a little more protection which the semi-snyth is supposed to give,(can withstand higher temps before breaking down)......as we're riding an air cooled bike in a hot climate I thought this made sence.
I did enquire about full-synth yamalube and other brands but had no luck.........one service guy told me " NO companies make a fully snythetic oil"........I know there are but..............he's the expert right

As we all know by now yamalube is Motul in a different bottle, so surely it must offer the same quality's?

plus if Yamalube is good enough for Rossi and Lorenzo's M1 motogp bikes then its good enough for my little baby

This is how I find it

Gearbox is smoooooth, up and down.
Engine rev's freely throughout the rev range and pulls strongly from 3000rpm right through till 8500 with no vibes or rattles in any gear.
No grinding,No knocking, No Clutch slip, just puuuuurrrrr's

                            She's managed 127kmph
                            Returning 40/43kmpl

                            Standard plug
                            Standard air filter

I took a small time to set-up the bike. moved levers, switch gear, gear lever, rear brake pedal, rear suspension and some minor adjustments.
just to get things where and how I like them. Gotta say I'm luvin it

                            • hey guys, i've completed 800 kms on my fazer and just got the first servicing done. i'd asked the svc guys to put semi synthetic yamalube so i'm hoping that they did.
Before the first servicing, i never went above 60kmph or 5000 rpm. I wanted to know if it would be ok to rev freely now or not. I tried revving freely yesterday but the bike was rattling like anything when it went above 5k rpm. i could not go above 70 kmph . i also noticed engine heating up more than normal & some knocking too.
                              wondering why this is happening?
