  • FZ Isn't Lord of the Streets anymore

Its finally happened. The fz isn't as shiny cool as it was.
As a year old owner, I feel disheartened right now.
I just drove my friends KTM Duke 200. And I got my socks blown off!! This is what the fz should have been. Crazy power. 26 bhp to be exact. And the most responsive engine i've ever ridden on. The pillion rider will always jerk back. Even in 4th. And this is maintaining the revs till the run in period is done. I cant even imagine what it'll be after the limit.
I hope Yamaha takes a hint.
    *cough* fz25 *cough*

dear summers, i dont agree with that!
Bikes are for a purpose and you choose them as per your requirement. If you have bought it as per your requirement.. It will keep solving your purpose for a long time.. These higher bhp bikes were always there.. Pulsar220 is priced same as my fazer and it was always there.. Even an RTR 160 is higher performing than an fz.. If you just wanted a fast bike even a karizma would have fit your bill.. But we chose the fz.. It solves our purpose.. These higher performing bikes were there, will remain there and will keep coming.. Shift to them when your requiremnets change.. I dont think in an year or two your requirements change that drastically!
Enjoy what you have!! There's nothing to get disheartened about..

Please note- Yamaha Fazer 2011 for sale.. Delivery as per KTM Duke's waiting period!!

^^ Fantastic reply bro.. Especially from the person who's already booked the monster 200..
Well, I've been a silent reader for a while but looged in to post at this one. FZ was made for a purpose, we all got it for a reason, it served us well, still serving us well & expected to stay solid as a rock for years to come. My baby is more than 2 yrs & 22 k kms old but still she doesn't fail to bring a smile on my face everytime i get on the saddle.
& I'm saying the last line after riding the new R15 V2.0 of a close friend in excess of 1000 kms over last 1 month. I'm currently having both FZ & R15 V2.0 at my disposal & as much as i crave to take the new V2.0 for a ride everyday, i dont realy need to compel myself out of pityness for my FZ to take her out for a ride too.. It just happens & I absolutely enjoy being back on FZ every once in a while especially in mumbai peak traffic. Not comparing both the bikes at all, just stating FZ was, is & will always remain special to me.
Duke, as i know is in altogether different league as compared to FZ. But baby FZ still has enough juice in her to keep me entertained & excited for atleast a couple of years more, wanna see her cross 50 k kms before i think about an upgrade.. & still after that, i'll try to retain my FZ with myself (as per the suggestion of my close friend who owns that R15 V2.0) even after the upgrade, because my FZ was my first bike, bought by my own funds after fighting with family, had countless amazing tours on her but most importantly she's the first love of the so called 'Biker' within myself & she'll always remain so.

PS: Excuse me guys, if the above was too much :P..
PPS: Hi SHV18, how are you bro, i hope all is fine & your FZ is kicking a** after the FFE.. Lets catch up someday.

          Take Care, Ride Safe guys..

Oh dont get me wrong. I love my fz and I'll always will.
I'll tell you why I bought it over any other bike. I love naked bikes. Never enjoyed any bike with farings. It makes it heavy. I like my bikes light and zippy. The moment I saw the back tire of the fz I knew I met my machine. Cornering is so stable and you know the bike wont skid. I dont care about speed. I wanted handling and the fz gave it.

But the Duke, well, its a naked bike. The best if not only one in its class. Its light. Only 7 kg more than the fz. And the stock tires are 150, 10 more than the fz.
And the power. Im not a poster boy for ktm, but if the fz had even something close to that kind of power, I'd be one happy puppy. Still, Im sticking to my fz

Every Bike meets a better competition someday; sometimes from a different manufacturer or at times from the same manufacturer.

This time, the FZ has been bettered by the Duke. Tomorrow, the Duke will be bettered by something else; doesn't mean that the FZ and the Duke would be looser and any lesser then.

BUT then, this is the time of the Duke...long live the new King
Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.

                    • Till KTM 200 was lauched, there was no naked bike available in the country(Excluding the imported/higher end ones ofcourse).
I agree,KTM 200 and Fz are two completely different bikes,of different leagues.
Untill the the launch of KTM there never existed any bike quite like Fz.Those wide tyres, aggressive looks!.According to me it was Fz,which re-kindled the naked bike segment, which was dominated by commuterish bikes
That is the reason why 2 years back, even though higher performing machines were available at a lower price,I just went ahead booked it without as much as look at its performance figures.
Just felt that KTM 200 is strong in all of FZs selling points, adding impressive performance as well. Saying this because quite frankly ,(no offence meant to any owners),I felt let down by its performance.
So now I feel the naked bike enthusiasts have a larger choice.

the on road price of ktm 200 here in hyd is around 133000 INR. That of Fz would be around 76000 INR. Where is the comparison.. Its like comparing a Honda Cbr 250 with my fazer 150... Just comparing the naked looks is not sufficient to let down the fz.. It still is the most macho bike under 85k segment!

Never tried 0-60 in 5.5 sec. Never tried speed more than 105 km/hr. Never installed any performance upgrades. Never tried increasing rpms to improve my Fazer's performance. Just enjoy cruising at 80-90 km/hr with no gear changes even when slowing down to 30 km/h and again picking up. The feeling is like driving a car without the body.
                        It still solves my purpose!

Please note: Fazer 2011 for sale, delivery as per ktm 200's waiting period (just kidding, it wont happen)

                        • @muztariq: Honda CBR 250 is not a street bike.FZ-16 is a street-fighter and so is KTM-200(this is my criteria of comparison, not considering other factors such as price).Again you are not getting my point,as I have clearly stated in my previous post that KTM 200 and fz are two similar(READ:street fighter) bikes of different leagues.

Aside from the colors the wiring is different. the CDI has different wiring. The FZS has 1 single 8 plug and 1 white wire on the CDI whereas the FZ16/Byson has 1 single 8 pin plug and 1 single 4 pin plug. The CDI's are NOT interchangable (I was sold a FZ16/Byson CDI and it does not connect to my FZS)

Same for FZ and FZS. It may've been old and new version. Pre-2011 and later are different here.
