I am looking for long term engine performance, better cooling and being fully synthetic will keep my engine better. Is anyone using this OIL and if yes have they encountered any issues with CB unicorn like clutch slippage?
The recommended grade for Unicorn is 20W40. Wanted to try fully synthetic oil, so opted for Motul 300V 15W50 that costs Rs. 900/- (Covered almost 4000 kms with no signs to change it for next 500-750 kms for sure)... Personal Experience: Engine takes a while to heat and if driven when its cold, its very jerky. That's the reason, i kick-start my bike while taking my bike out out. By the time, I take it out, wear helmet and get myself ready, its takes at least 2-3 mins ... I do feel jerkiness while riding for first 2-3 kms, after that no issues whatsoever & the bike just glides ... No issues whatsoever with the clutch as mentioned by you... Please share your experience with the 10W40 when the engine starts... My bike has a few niggles even with 15W50, for your bike guess it should be more as it has 10W40?

My friend advised me to use H4 65k HID with ballast ( Phillips only ) as in that way i would not have to change my battery, coiling and still get good brightness and its also street legal. Anyone already using the same? Please let me know.
What's the cost of this ?

Iam using 300v 5W40 for last 3k odd kms and it is funtastic.-W50 is harder grade for uni, hence it takes its time to get free flowing. And honda has shifted to 10w30 for all their motorcycles. Next time try 10W40 if its 300v

There is a possibility of all the new bikes being fiddled, as you said, by the mechanics in the SC and hence the new bike’s carburetor must be ‘retuned’ by turning the AFR screw left or right for proper functioning.
The engine designers have a lot to learn from us; the Indian bikers. E.g., those low IQ engineers do not know that all the problems are related to carburetor tuning, tappet clearance and brand and viscosity of the oil filled. Let them learn from us how easily the power, torque, top speed, fuel blocking, spark plug fouling etc. etc problems can be solved by a mere turning of the AFR screw left or right depending the political views of the rider. The only tool required is a small screw driver or a line tester.
Also they don’t know anything about the necessity of changing the viscosity of the engine oil filled in the early morning when the ambient temperature is low and at about 3 pm when it is at the peak or at least in the beginning of the summer and the winter. All they do is recommitting the same oil throughout the year if the ambient temperature, while starting the bike, is within a certain limit.
See how difficult it is to tune a carburetor as per those low intelligence engineers!

• Honda unicorn Bike Oil Change.

Hi XBHP Friends,

I take this post to thanks XBHP for giving us such a great opportunity in viewing and knowing the things,

Here my question is: I have a unicorn almost 1 yr old where i completed my 11500K in it in just 1 yr. most of my riding would be in 60-80 KMPH.
My mileage is 52-55 avg some times it reached 60KMPL based on my riding style.

My major concern is that Engine oil that am using now. Till the date i bough my bike i was using Honda 10W30 oil only. Only once i change it to Shell 20W40 mineral oil which gave some smoother gear shifting but i had some initial pick and cold start problem so i again came back to home (honda oil) .

Then i read some articles regarding semi synthetic oil and i wanted have taste with that in my bike. so Now (today) i changed it to Castrol Power 1 15W40.

here am requesting that with what oil i need to stick wih my bikes life time . Am very much confused. could any pls pls help me.

10W40 Motul/Shell FS or SS'll B better. Gulf 20W40 mineral is light on pockets and can make many ss out there in the market run for their money.

Heard good things about mobil but personally hasn't tried it yet.

I didn't find anything called 5W40 even in their web-site (Welcome to Motul), you're referring to 10W40 in both the places, right ??? Read about higher grade oils in few of the other threads, am not going to try 15W50 anymore as it'll be too thick for the engine, will try out the 10W40 next time, Thanks buddy

Thanks for the link... But am somewhat more inclined towards trying 10W40 than the 5W40... One thing for sure, will stick to 300V and moving away from 15W50 as I read in most of the forums that it'll not be good for average temperatures, will be good only in Rajasthan kind of places...

• Hello Wing riders,

Logging in back after a long time.

Crossed 25000 kms today after 31 months. Mileage is one thing which i am happy about. Getting constant 55 plus. I serviced my bike with a new mechanic this time. People said he has more than 20 years of exp with bajaj. He added SJ 10W50 grade engine oil. I am not sure of the brand.
Bike feels smooth and he adviced to change oil only after 4000 kms.

Have anyone used 10W50 grade oils. ?

Having issues with the timing chain as well. A lot of noice from the engine. No one will believe that it is a Honda ! mechanic told he will fix it after 30 K kms. Also reversed the front spoket. Sound also from the spoket and chain !

• Hi,

I own a 2007 Honda Unicorn with 65000 Kms on odo.Recently at 63000Km my bike started consuming engine oil but there was not any white or blue smoke from exhaust. From 59000Km to 63000Km I changed engine oil ( Power 1 ) 4 times in regular 1000Km intervals and each time drained oil was measured only 300ml.I consulted a experienced Honda mechanic who runs his own workshop and he adviced me to rebore the cylinder and to install a new piston, valve set, timing chain, piston rings, valve seals so I done this job at cost of Rs 3000 including labour charges. Now after proper run in of 500Kms,I changed engine oil and had a trip of 1100 Kms to Nainital from Lucknow in 3 days,I did not revved my bike beyond 5k RPM,now engine runs smoother but there are some problems as well--

1) High tappet sound-as mechanic set tappet loose but he is telling not to tighten tappet as it is good for rebored engine due to more heat generation.
2) Engine feeling stressed beyond 70Km/hr.
3) Previously 80km/hr was achieved at 6k RPM but now same at 6300RPM,is it due to clutch slippage?
4) Engine feels very hot in high traffic conditions i.e riding in lower gears for some time.
5) Mielage dropped to 45Km/lt from 55Km/lt.

Pl give some suggestoins.
Thanks
Ankit.

• hi friends waiting for a reply

Hi friends I recently bought a honda cb unicorn I have done 1555 km in it. A good experience here is the way I have changed the oil of the bike.Bought the bike on 31st August 2012.Engine oil used so far is moto 4 gold 20w40 only.Change intervals:1st engine oil changed at 300 km2nd changed at 750 km 3rd changed at 1100 kmIn all the above 3 engine oil change I have used only moto 4 gold 20w40 and the bike is doing good no problem at all the gear change and everything is very good and smooth the bike easily touches 100 speed in no time without any problem tried it just ones after the 3 engine oil change at 1400 km of run in. I am getting a fuel efficiency of 52 right now. The thing is for me to right here is for a reason. I want to try gulf pride 4t plus 20w40 oil so I wanted an advice from you all who so ever have used this oil before. Some queries regarding this gulf oil is.1. Is it a mineral oil or ss as I am confused on it. 2. Is it better than moto 4 gold 3. What would be the drain intervals on this oil I had plans to change the oil of 1100km of my last oil change after completing 2000 km on it.I would be really kind to all the members here to share there wonderfull experience on the above note. Thank youYours Arjun (die hard Xbhp member) .
