Dude, I see you are from Bangalore. Can you tell me from where did you source the 38T ZMA sprocket?? Where did you get this mod done ?Originally posted by alok urs View Postur absolutely right, i used to cruise in 80 at 6000 rpm earlier but after changing my rear sprocket to 38 teeth zma's m able to reach 80 at 5000 rpm, dis is not just a false claim
ZMA has 40T rear not 38T and ZMA chain is of 520 pitch for which you will have to change the chain to ZMA's. Once you change this, the front sprocket also has to be changed to 520 pitch else the existing chain or the ZMA's chain won't match.
So can you plz specify the following things used in your bike.
> Front sprocket - Which bikes/How many Teeth
> Rear sprocket - Which bikes/How many Teeth
(I am 100% sure ZMA has 40T, P200 has 38T)
> Which bikes Chain are you using??
Even I am looking forward to get it done but didn't get the proper combination.

@vipin
there are no negatives in sprocketing , if u reduce d no of teeths in d rear gearing becomes much taller. in simple words if ur rear is bigger say for 1000 rpm of front sprocket d rear turns 300 times, if u reduce d size at d rear for same rpm d rear turns 400 times. so u can achieve more speed at less rpm. d only minor negative of downsizing d rear is dat u'l hav to sacrifise d initial pick up a bit. dis is wat i've learnt in d thread world of sprockets.
but acc to my mech only if u alter d front sprocket d initial drop is noticable n it cant be harmed if u change only d rear one's. my bike had 43 teeths in d rear n now i've reduced 5 teeths

sreeni i had d same doubt like u, my mech is also my relative so i had to believe his words. i know zma has 40t but he told old or 1st gen zma used to come wid 38t rear, i asked whether i had to change d chain set but he told existing chain is only proper.Originally posted by Shreeni0403 View PostDude, I see you are from Bangalore. Because my friend has a Old ZMA who changed his sprockets just couple of days back. I borrowed his old sprocket to check and it has 40T rear and chain 520 pitch !! Let me try hunting your mech and get the work done
BTW are you basically from Mysore ? Even I am from Mysore.
PM me your nmbr. Will give you a call if anything necessary while hunting your mech.
What was the cost of sprocket. !!

@alok urs
dude ... zma 40 and pulsar 38 both sprockets do have less no of teeths but they are as big as ur uni's front disk brake ... #520 is different from normal sprockets .. chk whether the sprocket fitted is small and thick or bigger and thinner. ... former one means u got ambition sprocket and later one means u got zma .. so u chk & decides....Last edited by viv.nomad; 01-21-2010, 12:38 AM.

I am the owner of a 2005 model honda unicorn. It has run for about 50k kms. I was thinking to sell this bike and take a new one and I had created a thread asking for your advice about which bike to buy. It was at this time that my my final year results came out and unfortunately I failed in a subject. So my parents decided not to buy me a new bike. Around this time i noticed a change in the sound of my unicorn and a fine knocking when I accelerate the bike after downshifting. I took the bike to honda authorized service center in my town( Johns honda, thrissur, kerala). According to them the engine has some problem and that there is some problem with crankshaft, piston and engine bearings. They quoted a repair cost of Rs 15k to 18 k. That was too much for me. I send an email to HMSI about this(asking whether this amount is justified). In response I got a call from the dealer after about 2 weeks telling that they could explain their quoted repair charges if I come to the showroom. I didn't go for that because as I was not having the technical knowledge for understanding their explanation.
One year back I had send an email to HMSI asking whether I can use synthetic engine oil for my unicorn. Within a day I got a call from their customer care that it is not recommended. So this time also I was expecting a direct call from them, as this was a more important issue. But this time I never got a direct call from them. Only an email that they are looking up into my issue. The contact of their customer relations officer was given in the email

I tried calling these numbers. But the calls were not answered.
It was around this time that I my cousin called me and told that he has got a friend working at Arya Bhangy Honda, Aluva, which is about 60 kms from my town. I took my bike there and I was quoted a maximum of 10k rs for the works. That amount was ok for me and I gave the bike for the repairs there. Today I got the bike after repairs. Total cost is about 8000 RS.

@on wheels: I searched for Petronas 5000T in many places in Chennai.. I couldn't Find it even in one shop. They told me that they are yet to order from distributors and it'll take 1-2 months before i can lay my hands on one..
So guys,is there any other alternative to the Petronas for my 17k old Uni?
.
Need some fast replies. Can't afford switching to Fully Synthetic this time

wing riding.
Rode the uni for about 7000kms but never felt smooth like a Honda(cos my bro had ridden the first 30,000kms !_
). Dropped the bike a few times(minor falls) but regularly serviced and cared for.
Logged the mileage mostly on a few 1000+km trips. I Have ridden most of the current crop of motorcycles but as a complete motorcycle that tackles heavy off-roading as good as well laid twisties with equal aplomb, my vote goes for the Uni.
Wanted to test its limits it on the Kari Motorspeedway on my trip to Coimbatore but an RTR was already stripped to rip, so didn't get a chance.
The engine was very uncharacteristic of a Honda - strained and noisy. So, decided to open her up yesterday. The revelation : oil rings disfigured, carbon deposits on the head and piston crown, crank play, broken EGR pipe.........but it still ran without complaining !
Plus, due to my previous fall, entire H/L assembly is scratched, crash guard & handlebar is bent, RVM cracked, gear lever is cut and battery has given up
!
To add to the woes, my bro's coming from the US in fortnight to stay a couple of weeks !
************************************************** *******
The Restoration plan : quicker but reliable
Second oversize bore with 0.25/0.5 mm Usha piston(will check today)
Polishing ports
Shaving the head by 0.5mm
Crank resetting
Changing bearings, seals
NGK CPR8EAGP-9
I don't want to leave any part of the engine undone now that it has been opened up so cosmetics repairs can wait.
Believe it or not, the biggest dilemma now is choice of Engine Oil !!! I have used Castrol Activ, Agip, Gulf 20W40 and was in the verge to switch to synth when this happened !
Now contemplating whether to go for company Honda oil/Motul/Shell advance.Last edited by dj_666; 01-26-2010, 03:59 PM.4 wheels move the body, 2 wheels move the soul.
