  • Low mileage

I am also having a problem with mileage. I used to get 48-50kmpl and sometimes 50+ in my uni. But now after the third service the mileage i get is around 40-42kmpl.
But i ride usually around 4k rpm ie 50kmph in 5th gear. Sometimes reach upto 60. I have touched 80 a couple of times after the 3rd service. But usually i do only 50kmph. Can anyone help me in this. What do u think has gone wrong?

A few days back i found that the rear brake was tightly adjusted. So i thought that was the culprit. i adjusted the brakes, but still nothing has improved.

Also i felt that my bikes pick up has come down. but i m not sure of that. I ll have to ride another bike and see.

What exactly does valve clearance noise from the engine mean and is it a temporary situation/something that can be corrected ? Cause I remember the mechanics also mentioning about valve clearence noise and that it will inevitably come in.

Also the noise I hear seems to be like a regular tinnish sound repetitive sound. somewhat like an old hero honda engine :-( . I can distinctly make the sound out, but should I be concerned about it too much and is it normal ?

Also I get Vibes at exactly 4500 Rpm to 5200 Rpm. In any case I will get this checked again during the 3rd service, but doubt if the mechanics would be able to get down to the root cause.
There will be a gap between the valve tappet and the rocker arm of the engine. The rocker arm touches the tappet making a noise. This noise can be reduced by reducing the gap between the touching parts.
Usually, for new bikes , the gap is intentionally kept more to allow thermal expansion of parts. The service centre persons adjust it during first service.

      • After long rides
even my uni gives tinnish valve/tappet noise (audible only after i remove my helmet)
If the irritating tappet sound is audible even with helmet put on ,then it is an emergency case .
Otherwise ,if you have time ,you should get it adjusted .
The Automotive batteries are designed to work best in a typical short start-stop fashion.
So to increase the life of your automobile battery, blow the horn and flash the pass light in a quick start stop fashion instead of a conitnuous long horn blow or flash light continuous on!!
And obviously don't stretch the self start far too long.

              a. Increasing the gap or decreasing is not recommended, the gap has to be as specified.
              b. I am not sure if this is true, I want more details about this b'cos my HH mechanic has not touched 'engine tuning' from original factory setting even after 2 free svc. He was also honest enough to say the centrifugal filter is not checked/cleaned untill there is some reported problems like excessive clutch wear (evident from oil coloration)...

                            • After reading through the entire (almost) UT on tyres, i've decided to go for a 4.00 M45 18 rear tyre for my Unicorn '09. My stock tyre is 100/90 18 ZAPPER Y

On paper the M45 dimensions are,

                              tyre width = 4.00 x 25.4mm = 101.6 mm ( 1.6 mm wider than stock )
                              sidewall height = 4.00 x 25.4mm = 101.6 ( 11.6mm more than stock )

Anyone here tried a M45 on a Unicorn ? Does it fit without any swingarm mods ? I don't think there is too much tyre-swingarm clearance on the Unicorn ..

I ride a latest gen Uni and i've heard that the swingarm-tyre clearance varies on each version. Is that true ?

Try to use Dunlop Geo Cruiser with same profile as stock. Much more better than stock. Hope it helps
