About FZ16
1. uncomfortable rear seat. my wife was angry on me.
2. uncomfortable front seat. ppl r saying that it has comfortable rider seat. so it may b with me only. mayb cuz of my height.
3. underpowered engine
4. rash riding avg. only 30kmpl
5. open chain is a pain 2 maintain. specially for a working guy like me (or mayb lazy guy like me
)
6. hopeless service stations
7. very high servicing(Rs.700 @Pro) n maintenance cost(frequent chain lube)
these r really specific reasons. wont affect most ppl. but as an enthusiastic rider, this bike is amazing. awesome handling in city traffic, fun lapping in ghats, gr8 road presence. so i'm not blaming FZ16 that much. mayb b after marriage n getting stuck in job, my needs r changed.

I am not sure if the unicorn would serve ur purpose then. Coz it has a relatively lazier engine than the FZ16. Its far smoother though. The honda service stations aren't terrific by any means. And the spare parts are just as expensive. I hope you have researched enough before u plonked ur money into it.

Even i'm not sure. hehe..
actually im in love with mono suspension n ther r only 2 bikes in my budget outta which i've already tried fz. also uni doesnt have 1st 2 problems that i've written above. talking bout performance, im no more that kinda performance freak n when i tried uni, i found it enuf in city traffic(although it wasnt extensive testing). at every bike purchase in past, uni was my 2nd option n i never took it. so this time i kept everything aside, listened to xbhp & orkut guys about uni xperiences. lets c what happens. i'll definitely put my xperience about uni soon.

hey nick
just for ur information mman
fz is not a lazy bike
its the fat rear tyre that make the available power insufficient
neways uni is a good bike
the only weakness of uni in my 5 years of experience is that it still looks sad in front of pulsar and now the fz and fazer as well.
But once the engine comes to life ,everything about the bike feels good. The Automotive batteries are designed to work best in a typical short start-stop fashion.
So to increase the life of your automobile battery, blow the horn and flash the pass light in a quick start stop fashion instead of a conitnuous long horn blow or flash light continuous on!!
And obviously don't stretch the self start far too long.

My first post here was in November,Originally posted by aryan rajvanshi View PostMy unicorn is june 2008 model and has done 16000 kms and i dont have any of the above mentioned problem.I dont know if your unit is faulty but unicorn is the smoothest bike of the lot and if you are encountering problems then go to the service station your problem is solved free as your bike is under warranty because if your unicorn is noisy then ............it is a big problem.
The vibes i felt have been there on and off, but they start around the time when the Fuel switches from the main to the reserve most of the time, they are nt there otherwise. and even when its there it is pretty less, nothing in comparison to other bikes, pulsar and the vibe infamous Apache.
Just had a question no the Chain. I find my chain getting loose every 400-500 Kms and wanted to find out if this was normal ? My bike has done about 4800 Kms now and i ve had to get the chain tightened twice in the last 1000 kms, I touch 80-90 once in a while, but for not more that a minute, ride at constant speeds and dont rev or race too much.
The only thing is that i have a million speed breakers between home and office and i suspect this might have something to do with it. I come down upto the 1st gear to slow down for all the Speed breakers.
Could someone confirm if this regular chain adjustment is normal ? How good/effective is the new chain lubrication/treatment that honda service have come up with for Rs 85 ? Some sort of solid wax/grease that is used and mechanised application on the chain ? anyone who has tried this ?
Thanks,
Pavan

my chain needs tigtening after more den 1500 kms
if u can't do this ,ur above mentioned problem is naturalThe Automotive batteries are designed to work best in a typical short start-stop fashion.

Brief history about the issues i was facing:-
>my bike used to ran ot of breath once i cross 60 KMPH.
>Chain was getting loose every few days.
>Sound was very harsh. i had lost all the silence in my bike's exauste note.
>Used to get heavy thumping sound from engine. like thak thak thak. it was like piston is making sound with every stroke.
when i got it checked here in Delhi, they said that Piston, Valve, cam shaft and some other parts of the engine were gone bad(I don't know which part was left from their list, seems like they included every part.) and gave me bill of 9000 Bucks.
took my bike to my fav. Honda service station in Rajpura, and here is the list of parts replaces:-
1.> Gasket head cover:- 40/-
2.> Air Filter:- 90/-
3.> Lifter assy tensioner:- 195/-
4.> engine Oil:- 195/-
5.> chain and sproket set(front and rear) :- 695/-
6.> Brake shoe:- 230/-
7.> chain cap:- 5/-
8.> RVM's:- 190
9.>Labour:- 200
Total:- 1840/-
Result:- all the vibrations, harsh exaust note, engine sound, and chain issue resolved. My bike runs as good as new. i had long smile on my face when i felt the same refinement after months.....
Next expences:-
Fairing cowl:- 490
Tyre:- approx 1800

hey guyz
seems to be a big trouble
the threads of my uni's drain plug holder are damaged
first i bought a new plug ,but the plug keeps on moving and does not seal
ne temporary fix for this(till next oil change)The Automotive batteries are designed to work best in a typical short start-stop fashion.

Yesterday in the office parking, the engine oil from my Uni drained. It was a bad traffic day on the JVLR-L&T-Sakinaka route and my bike gave up in between. I chceked the engine oil level and it was resonably ok. I thought it is probably the spark plug problem because since few weeks there is a knocking sound in the engine at 2nd gear. After few minutes of rest it sprung back to life and I reached the office... by the evening I noticed the the the bottom of the oil sump was dripping and the engine oil drained out. Will tow my bike to a nearest garage now.
My baby is completing it's 5th year next month and I want to give it a nice overhaul. Can someone suggest me a good mech.. I am not educated enough to be able to specify the service centre guys about what I want to do. Nor do they spend time to understand what I wantLast edited by rockrider; 03-23-2010, 01:17 PM. Update
Towed the bike to nearest bike mech.
1. A gasket that is used in encasing the clutch box is the trouble maker. so the casing had to be opened
2. when the mech opend the casing we found that there were pieces of worn out metal lying at the bottom. the oil filter also had a lot of these peices accumulated. The entire clutch assembly was removed one of parts was being fixed (I wish I knew the name). There were signs of wear and tear on the encasing that covers the plates.
3. Also according to the mech the clutch plates are 'burnt'. Recently I have been hearing a 'clang' noise when go from neutral to first. And when I am accelerating fast, I observed gear slippage when I attemp for 1st to 2nd. The gear slips into neutral. This happend few times now and during those instances, for a brief moment, the engine almost hits redline.
Fix: The clutch assembly was cleaned and the worn out part replaced. I asked him to check the spark plug as well. it has been more than 33K and I havent changed one. few more small fixes to be done.
I will post some pics of the wear and tear when I am home.
