Nope I have'nt checked the 10w40 yet, but this time I have a can of 15w50 SS Motul which I will be checking.Originally posted by sarbanoxley View PostThanks for the input
.Have you tried 10W 40 300v
it is not mandatory that you should flushing, If u want to do it then no harm doing it also.. Thier is only one Fully Synthetic available in Petronas which is Sprinta 5000t so thier is no point getting confused.Originally posted by jeyessh View PostThat was more like for me.. A reasonable oil which is cheap.
BTW no need for Flushing if i switch to Petronas now rite
And i should be asking for Petronas Sprinta 5000T now?

I think a few castrol Bike Zones have the rolon treatment. I know Autoservice has it.Originally posted by jeyessh View PostThat was more like for me.. A reasonable oil which is cheap.

Thanks for the info. By any Chance, Do u know any places where i can Do Rolon Treatment in Chennai?
Err.....15w50? I think that is not recommended to use. you can change the 10wX to 15wX or 20wX because that is the grade for cold starting temperatures, but it is not recommended to change Xw40 to Xw50 as that is the grade to maintain viscosity for the heat generated by the engine. Higher grade than Xw40 will be too runny for Unicorn, but it is alright for Pulsars as they rev higher than Unicorn. The engine will become very rough due to higher thickness of Xw50 oil in Unicorn.Originally posted by abhilashabhi12 View PostNope I have'nt checked the 10w40 yet, but this time I have a can of 15w50 SS Motul which I will be checking.

Actually I liked the bike with W50 a lot cos it helps in reducing vibes @ higher RPM's & also it helps me overcome engine over heating problem.sigpicAll India Permit 1+1

Hi Jeyessh. First of all check the grade of engine oil recommended by the manufacturer then go for any brand. Otherwise there can be serious problem. But I think if it is 10W30, you can move up to 10W40 or 5W40 (because in Syn, below 40 is not avaiable) but dont go beyond. Try Petronas 5000 - its genuine synthetic.Originally posted by jeyessh View PostThanks guys. Actually, now i don't mind the extra bucks to be spent. I just want my bike to be Super smooth. So should i go with motul 20w40 or Petronas Sprinta 5000T now?
And regarding the rolon treatment, Where can i do the rolon treatment? And How much would it cost?Move on.........

Brother, I have searched the net on that issue and found Petronas 5000 is a genuine synthetic oil. But the additives matters a lot. I was not aware that motul is also having 10W40 fully synthetic oil. Can you please give us a screen shot of it? I'll try to find it out here in kolkata then.Originally posted by sarbanoxley View PostIf you want to use REAL synthetic oil for your uni then Motul 300V is a good option i have been using it in my Xtreme for some time and now i dont miss my old Unicorn anymore
. Get the 10W 40 version of the motul 300V they last much longer than the 5W 40.You cannot beat petronas its really cheap compared to Motul but i do not know
if its a true synthetic oil like motul 300v
.Move on.........

It's very much available in Kolkata it's Motul 300V fully synthetic. What's your exact location? However, I don't have a good experience with 10W40 synthetic, in my unicorn, though just my personal view.

I am about to change my chain set since it has crossed 27K kms and has started feeling very rough. It would be interesting to sync with u sometime and take a look at the motorcycle's pickup and feel of the ride. How about over the weekend? I am also located in Bangalore, btw.Originally posted by alok urs View Postsry guys , was out of town

My unicorn has done about 49k kms . For the last few months there is some fine knocking when I downshift and accelerate and there are some unusual sounds from the engine at idling. Actually I was thinking of selling the bike and buy another one. But due to certain personal problems I cant do that now.
I took the bike to the svc and according to them there is some problem with the crankshaft , the bearings are damaged and the cylinder piston has to be changed. They(johns honda, thrissur,Kerala) quoted me about 15k to 18k rs for the repairs. I was not happy with the amount they quoted. It was at this time that my cousin told me that he has got a friend working at the honda svc in another town ( cochin, kerala). So I took the bike there and they quoted an amount of 10k max. So I gave the bike there for repair. They have started the work yesterday. Will post the updates soon. Has anyone here replaced their cylinder kits, crankshaft etc before. What was the cost of the repairs?
