Did't get this. can you elaborate this?? the connector is very weak. the place where the two screw are tightned.

And i have the very first gen Unicorn.

Also is it possible to fit the 3rd or 4th gen fairing on 1st gen?

In that case, don't overtighten the screws. They will crack the plastic. It may be possible to fit next gen fairings, just check with the SVC once.
I thought the vibration is between the visor&dome-if that is also there, put some double sided tape from the back part.

Yes its possible to fit 3 or 4th gen fairing in old uni but some small mod needs to be done. approx cost will be 2.5k. fairing breakage is common in old uni, thats why honda reinforced the fairing in later gen. unis

But what i think is that delhi roads are not that bad that can make your fairing fall off withing 3-4 months.

SO i'm done with Unicorn fairing which is is so pathetic that it breaks off even with a small jerk.
Now i'm looking for alternative. Don't want to go for any cheap looking headlight for my bike but need something good.
          Budget is 2-3K.

So which one you guyz think would look good on Unicorn?
I like Karizma fairing but don't know whether i can fit that or not.
try searching for a ducati streetfighter like aftermarket copycat headlight and let us know .. just a n option if u like that look. srs

ru sure that by riding on some rough roads your fairing breaks(connectors)..i think there is some fault in fixing the fairing.. as i have seen in a few cases where they forget to tight the nut which comes below....which causes the connectors on the top to take the beating..

atlleast nothing such has happened to my uni for the past 3yrs..i have not even put the rubber washers which comes for the connector and the road which i daily commute to coll is like 22kms out of this 8kms is the worst i have ever ridden(in terms of potholes and humps) or u can say there is no road, which is nothing less than offroading track...

                • New Owner .... some doubts

                  Hi All,
I got my new unicorn today. Enjoying my first day ride. The bike is butter smooth. But i have only 2 problems:
                  1. After 50Kmph it starts vibrating. It feels it cannot go over that speed. I did not raise it too much to test it though. Is this factory setting for New Vehicles for the initial period?
                  2. The Gears are very Hard. One of the posts i have seen that it got rectified and the problem was with the clutch.. Can it be the same or something else...
                  ----------------------
Coming to y i choose Uni:
I was really confused between GS and Unicorn. I really liked GS for its 6th Gear, Engine Smoothness and Gear/clutch smoothness. But decided to take the unicorn because of other problems with GS(Mainly 1 of the mecs told that he is not able to to get clutch plates for zues for last 1 month..phew).
                  Thanks

it can go very well beyond 50kmph without any vibrations, dont cross 50kmph/4000rpm during the run in period.
Let the bike run for a few 100kms. the gears will get smooth..

                    • Unicorn R - 5 Months and a Mixed Bag of Experience

                      Hi All,

THis is my first Post and I ve got a Honda Unicorn , and she s 5 months old, (not a baby anymore )

Here's what I have seen and felt in the 5 Months and 3200 kms

                      1) Had a front wheel wobble issue early on, wrestled with service dealers and MRF and a Replacement of the front Tyre fixed it.
                      2) Not as "butter smooth" as it is claimed to be. Gear Shift 1 - 2 is noisy, not as "Pulsarishly noisy" but it is definitely not smooth.sometimes shifts ok, sometimes gives a big "Klunk"
                      3) worn out "Clutch Disks" at 3000 KM !!! not yet replaced but wondering how this could happen at 3000 KM. Got Honda(not just the dealer) involved as well.
3.b) Good amount of Engine Vibrations from ~ 4700 RPM - 5500 RPM, lesser vibration 5500 RPM and beyond. Vibes felt very much at the Brake footrest and also on Tank. Honda service personnel claim this to be "natural and will happen ". I don t agree.
                      4) Engine is not really as quiet as claimed. It gives a bit of a tinnish sound. I am probably exaggerating but it is not as quiet as it used to be,
                      5) Pickup not as good as it was before 1st service. Everytime the service guys look into it, it betters for 15 days and becomes bad again. During Rains this was even quicker.
                      6) Frequent Chain Noise and of late the bike seems to be sorta pulling along heavily rather than being smooth. In the lower gears, if i leave the accelerator off there is this heavy pull back from the transmission and there definitely is some chain noise.
                      7) Worst Part of the Design of the Unicorn is the Rear Wheel Mud splash in the rainy seasons. Even if you only ride at 20-30 Kmph in the rain in main roads, the chain Guard, and the rear Shock Absorber are fully covered in layers of mud !!

To be honest I dont race the bike too much, but do turn it up to hit the 90-95 mark once in a while. drive at 80 for brief periods now and then.

Engine seems to run smoother once I top petrol up, but when it starts going near a litre towards the reserve zone it seems to be trying to "pull" and feels heavy unlike how it should be. Post 1st service I think i might have gotten a bad 5 litres of petrol and from then the bike has never been the same as it was at 1000 Kms on the meter. Is there a possibility of slugs in the tank ? Would i need to get the tank cleaned(if this can be done)

I check Tyre pressure once every week, Engine Oil Change is done during the services( 2 free done and on the Honda Engineers advice delaying the 3rd since I have done only 3000 Km

Mileage: has been ok , touched a low of 40 twice, was getting 47-48 regularly but since the lack of smoothness came in its been 45.

When I have a heavy person pillion riding, it definitely struggles initially upto at least the 3rd gear.

THis is my First Bike and I agree that I might be Exaggerating things a bit, but definitely things are not as smooth as they should be and I dont think all the above are normal.

Would be great to hear your responses and thoughts on this..

Bottomline: THis Bike is really awesome and despite all that I am facing, i m sure once I get it sorted out, she ll be as trustworthy and awesome as unicorns are supposed to be

Adding some good Pics of her :-)
Got Wheel lines in Red and Honda Written on it.
Blackened out the biking Fairing part of the headlamps, which was earlier just a silvery chrome plated patch on the inside ..

My unicorn is june 2008 model and has done 16000 kms and i dont have any of the above mentioned problem.I dont know if your unit is faulty but unicorn is the smoothest bike of the lot and if you are encountering problems then go to the service station your problem is solved free as your bike is under warranty because if your unicorn is noisy then ............it is a big problem.

                          • Not so smooth!! :-(

I have a 2008 uni, done 6000kms.The engine is not smooth anymore.I just changed my engine oil last week.used Castrol activ 4t 20/40(with synthetic technology). But i dont see much of a diff after that. The gearshifts also are not as smooth as it used to be before reaching 5000kms.I always endup at neutral while shifting from 1st to 2nd!!!I wonder if the engine oil is a fake!!!I have read that theres a lot of fake castrol's in the market.

Any clue what's causing this??Or shud i switch to another brand of oil??Plz recommend.

                            Thanks

                              Hmmm
This can be a very common problem with unis
                              Not b'coz dey are defective
but b'coz dey are so smooth that we stop caring for her.
Like any other bike this baby also needs to be looked after regularly.
Check ur manual for all the clutch and break free plays , carburettor and spark plug tuned and chain slack and lubrication and blah blah.
As far as noisey engine is considered , valve clearance can be a culprit .But rarely seen to go out this much soon.
The Automotive batteries are designed to work best in a typical short start-stop fashion.
So to increase the life of your automobile battery, blow the horn and flash the pass light in a quick start stop fashion instead of a conitnuous long horn blow or flash light continuous on!!
And obviously don't stretch the self start far too long.

Any clue what's causing this??Or shud i switch to another brand of oil??Plz recommend.

dude even i've a 2008 uni(same color), pretty surprised to see u've ridden so less . i used honda engine oil til my 4th free service, later i used motul semi-synth n now m using petronas sprinta fully-synth. my uni is too smooth to hear, the gear shift is also quite smoother dan before. in all bikes if u rev harder while shiftin to 2nd gear it ends up in neutral, so its not an issue to wry abt. jus change ur gear shifting style n see if problem still exists, if yes den go to a mech
