    • query on behalf of my friend

My Friend owns a 1st generation Unicorn. He wants to change to a new battery, but the problem is that it is a 12v 7ah battery which is not easily available in the market now. even the new unicorn is running on a 12v 9ah battery i suppose.

so what to do now.keep looking for 7ah battery??.. or get the 9ah battery and try it on??....someone who has had this same situation before??

please reply as soon as possible guys. Thanks in advance.

      • Don't know why you cant find a 7AH. I thought they were fairly common. But yeah, a 9AH should be a good... better than a 7AH actually. the only problem i forsee is getting the battery to fit in the existing battery holder.
        Keep the rubber side down.

my disk brake is not working effectively. the stopping distance is very much increased. If it is the problem of a faulty brake pad will they replace it under warranty? because it is written the user manual that brake pads arent covered under warranty.
My bike is jus 5months old and 3000kms done

If it has done only 3000 km, then brake pads are not worn that much.
Have you encountered this problem recently or for the past 5 months.

AFAIK Brake pads are not covered under warranty.

            • I have 2 problems with my bike. Its 1.5 months and 750km old.

              1. I get a squeaking sound while driving down a slope(no throttle). I am also not sure, maybe I dont hear the sound when I give throttle.

              2. The other is also a noise, its a kat-kat sound. Usually comes when I sit on the bike and also when I bend it a bit or shake my body after sitting.

i noticed this problem after the 2nd service. During the 3rd service i told them about this problem. But they havent rectified it. They told they have cleaned the brake-pads and brakes will be ok after few days. But the problem still persists.

The brake pads arent worn out and 3rd service was done at 2800km.

but what if the brake pad had some manufacturing defect?

If that is the case, we should complain during the first service, not after 3000 km, as brake pad is a consumable part.

Since your pads aren't worn, you can definitely use that as an argument. The argument that it is a consumable holds if you had worn out the pads. You should definitely demand that the problem be fixed... with a replacement if needed.

Yes, if you are winning anything by "argument" thats a different part of the story. I just told that consumables are not under warranty.

Let us come to the original problem, your stopping distance is increased. Have you investigated other possibilities like air entry into the brake fluid hose, correct level of brake fluid etc?. Brake pads are not the only culprits for the increase in stopping distance

These are standard replies given by many service centers. You need to escalate the issue... Has this been done??? The way I look at it is the company has to take responsibility for manufacturing defects. If it doesn't, I would stay away from it. I don't care how they word their warranty terms. That should be more of a formality...

And I speak from experience (not with HMSI though, never had any of their products). I have had many parts replaced which were outside the scope of the warranty terms...

And yes, other factors need to be ruled out before blaming the pads. If they are spongy, it could be air or moisture in the system.

brake fluid level is correct. yes the presence of air in the brake-fluid can decrease the braking effeciency. but i was worried about whether i can get the pad replaced if the problem was with the disc-pad.

i 'll be giving the bike for service this saturday..
