Well, next time take your own bottle of oil and give it to him and tell him to just replace the oil and u watch him doing it. it just takes about 10 mins to do that. Never, EVER rely on the mechanics "practical experience", coz behind the machinery and the oils, there is a lot of engineering "theories" put in place which he would have no clue of.Originally posted by alok urs View Post

ya ur right, today i went n remanded him for wat he did to my bike n he was still tryin to convince me dat he was right , he told i've put same oil for hunk, extreme n many unicorns n none returned wid a complaint except me. even wen i left my bike in sc's i stood next to my bike n got done everythin cos i wont trust any sc guys , i wud've only changed d oil dis time but i had given it for ful service so i told my mech to change d oil, he betrayed me in d end. he wasted my 400 bucks n now m buyin fully synth 300v which costs around 700rs, but most of my frnz suggested me not to use full synth as uni is not a super bike, its jus waste of money n told me to use semi synth oil which is sufficient for my bike, shud i go for fully synth oil or semi synth?Originally posted by prajwalkashyap View PostWell, next time take your own bottle of oil and give it to him and tell him to just replace the oil and u watch him doing it. it just takes about 10 mins to do that. I went to market today but here I didn’t find any other grade except Xw50 (many brands) and 10w30 (Caltex). So I just stack up with these two grades. I didn’t find any Xw40. I know Xw40 is best for unicorn but it is not available in Bangladesh’s market. So guys should I use Xw50 or 10w30?Adnan

well this is my exp with the syn's,have been using petronas sprinta 4t 5000 for abt 10k kms now, change every 4k kms,and it rocks... i do abt 110kms to and fro from my coll atleast thrice a week and some times 5 times a week and i blast at top speed for abt ~ 20 kms (~118 in normal and <120 in drag position),and i also touched 130 kmph when drafting behind a car...
and even in the city always above 80kmph and 7k rpm.. the only time i felt that i need a bigger bike is only on the highways, cause the in gear acceleration is sooo linear and also the bike is so responsive, for example if i was in 2nd gear,4k rpm and am holdin it there for the traffic to clear, and when i rip it the way it pulls right upto 9.5~10k rpm is awesome... i did the same on an rtr,but i never felt the pull,it did go to 10k+ rpm, same with the r15...
things i did to my bike..
1.opened the head, removed all the carbon and changed the valves (slight knocking started at 47k kms,now solved)
2.changed the piston rings(almost 400ml oil over by 2k kms,now solved)
3.ngk platinum(change it every 8k kms)
my bike did 54.8k kms,no cluthch plate change till now.. i got the bike from my bro at 12k kms till which my bro never went above 60kms...and from abt 35k kms using synthetic oil's after flushing... used mineral oil in between(during repairs),but changed back back to syn's..
so if ur my kind of a rider,i suggest u go for syn.s,they r worth it...RED BULL did'nt give me WINGS, my BIKE did !!

Doubts of a noob driver
Hi all,
I just got my Honda Unicorn last friday. It's my first bike and pretty much the first two wheeler I've ever driven. So I have like a ton of doubts:
a. I'm trying not to rev too much when moving the bike from from a stationary position and it ends up stalling so what rpms are healthy for just moving it from 0 kmph???
b. When due to traffic we're forced to stop, is it better to start moving using the first gear or is the second gear also ok?
c. When stationary and revving the bike do rpms steadily climb or do they depend on the level at which the accelerator is at??
d. Any general tips on breaking in the bike, driving a Uni, city driving and driving in general???
Thanks

a. Its ok to rev the bike upto about 3 or 3.5K rpm. If the bike stalls when moving from stationary, that means, the bike is not revving up enough to build the torque required to move the weight. While the vehicle is new, stick to between 3 and 4K rpm at any gear.Originally posted by rcazador View PostHi all,

b. Always move from first gear only from a stationary position, whether its in traffic or not.
c. When moving up the gears, the rpm goes up steadily. Its a combination of the accelerator and the gears that determines the RPM that the engine is revving at. u cannot be at 5th gear and be revving at 3K rpm, the bike will just stall coz it is unable to build enough torque to move the weight of the bike (and u on it)
d. make sure to change the engine oil within 750 kms. It wears off the inner walls of the engine to smoothen and allows the parts to set in. But it also will contain a lot waste metal filings collected while wearing off. So its important to change the engine oil and replace it with the correct grade mineral oil regularly. Also make sure that the chain is lubricated with bearing grease every 2 weeks and not just lube oil. that's because the chain is the only part connecting the engine and the tyre. Therefore, its imperative to keep it AS SMOOTH as possible. Depending on the style of riding, the break-in will range between 1000kms and 3000 kms. I did the running-in for about 3000 kms.
Cheers!

Is there any extra benefit to add grease with oil on chain? I understand it should cause the smoothness bud does it have any side effect?Originally posted by prajwalkashyap View Post

I want to improve headlight in my Unicorn but don't want to fit HID. Stock bulb is not having enough illumination, i find it difficult to ride on highway at night.
Can i fit higher rated bulb without modifying any wiring or battery? And if so then which bulb should i look for??sigpic

After reading few pages..still not clear if I can use fully synthetic or semi-synthetic for my uni 2005 model.
So far the service center had changed the oil with the factory recommended one.
I would like to change the oil for better performance.
The bike on an average runs 40kms/day.
Any personal and suggestion would be a welcome.

I have a problem.
my honda unicorn is repeatedly falling over from the central stand if the soft soil underneath is a little bit unstable. I am comfortable using the central stand because that was how I used to park my LML T5 and it hardly ever fell over due to soft soil.
It seems that the central stand in the honda bike is also disadvantaged by its narrowish neck which does not give proper balance to the 150 kg weight it bears on looser soils.
Is there any other central stand I can use for this bike or is there anything else I can do ?

you can use full synthetic without any hitch. My unicorn seems to be happy with petronas.Have been using it for more than a year,Originally posted by SriramEfunds View PostAfter reading few pages..still not clear if I can use fully synthetic or semi-synthetic for my uni 2005 model.
