  • Hello friends,

I am going to bok a Unicorn next week. I had a black Pulsar UG III earlier which was a 2007 model, rode the bike for 2.6 yrs/40000kms and sold the bike some time ago as I was too pissed with its maintainence...
Now I have decided to buy a Unicorn and I am going to book th ebike sometime next week.
I am big time confused between two colors - all black and silver (both with the 3d logo)
Can somebody help me to take a decision.Which color requires more maintainence? Which color looks better? Which color is long lasting in terms of its shine and quality ?
Dust particles and scratches can be easily noticed on black color than silver ....
I see so many black uni's on the road but very rarely find a silver Uni...
Personally, I love the silver a little more than black..My pulsar was black in color.. My mom says that i should buy the silver one this time as I have already tried black...My brother is of the opinion to go for black....
Can we have a poll or something ?? Please help !!!

IMO go with Silver. I had silver and after accident i changed the kit to black for which i am regretting now. Silver was damn easy to maintain and scratches and dust was not so easily visible but on black its seen very clearly.
Honda's paint job is top notch, silver and black both will remain long. No doubt. Just see and pick the color which your heart says

      • Guys I'm looking for a used bike and Honda Unicorn and HH Glamour are on my list. I have a budget of 20k. Do you think that I might get a decently maintained unicorn within this budget?? I'm not very keen on getting a bike in pristine engine/cosmetic condition as I'm a learning rider. So could you guys help me out in this direction??

I don't know if this post belongs in this section or not. But couldn't find another thread for this so posted it here.

        • Hello Parth,
In my opinion Honda unicorn wil be a better buy..As per the current market rates, my suggestion is to rise your budget a little bit.A well maintained honda is hard to find.Contact your local market.Just check for the basic things with the help of your mechanic. The monoshock should be examined for any leaks. You know the rest.Personally, im using unicorn for the past 4 years, and it still works like a dream.nice mileage, good pick up and ultimate riding comfort.I assure you that you wil observe the same.See the reviews of both bikes and decide. My 100% mark goes for Honda Unicorn.

Actually sir I don't. As I stated earlier, I'm new to the biking world and this bike would be the first bike that I'll own. Hence I'd like any assistance that I might get regarding what to check while purchasing. Also I'd like if you guys could suggest me a good mechanic for getting the inspection done. I'm based in Delhi. Also I'd like to know how much would I'll have to stretch my budget? (I'd be looking at rather empty pockets if I shell out 25K.)

Thanks a lot buddy .... I appreciate your valuable reposnse.
Any one else who has a Silver uni, please share your experience... Has the colour faded mush with the time if you regularly wash and polish the bike ? How does the bike look now after say 3-5 months or so ? Please reply

              • Parth, i had seen your introduction. Forgot that you are new to bikes. Thats ok man. The whole members of this forum are here to help. The normal things i would check for are the engine side, gear, and the suspension. You should be very careful about the suspension part of unicorn. Especially the rear mono shock as the replacement can drain your pocket. A trained mechanic can find the problems with ease. Paint jobs also has to be looked for. And check for any tamperings of the meters. Chain and spocks give a good indication about the usage. Sorry, im not sure with the delhi scenario. I think others can help in that aspect. A well maintained honda unicorn 2006 model cost around 30000rs in Kerala. But the market varies. So try to get the best deals. All the best man.

I would suggest you for in for a 150cc as they are as learner friendly or better than lower capacity motorcycles owing to their better handling and braking.
Plus you would soon feel the urge to upgrade form a 125 as they better the 150s only in fuel efficiency.
The unicron is a gem of a machine and is a delight to newbies as well as in the hands of an experienced motorcyclist and you should find a decently maintained example(1st generation) for ~25K.

hey buddy i own a 2008 nov silver uni(wid logo), even after an year my bike looks brand new ofcourse it requires gud maintainance but its far battar dan black
even i had booked a black uni but i had to wait for 2months for delivery so changed my mind n took silver. m tellin u black is very hard to maintain be it a car or bike but it surely is d sexiest color, n on d other hand silver is easy to maintain although it doesn look as great as black. if i wash my bike n give coat of polish it jus sparkles in sunshine but it may not be d same in case of black.
if u want sexy color n not durability go for black, if u want sec sexy color n durability go for silver . choice is yours

                          • Guys my 14 month old uni is guzzling fuel like crazy...i ride in Chennai and it hardly gives me 40-45kmpl...theres a lot of dusty roads that i cover on my commute to work...so could the air cleaner be a problem??or needs tuning?

Can a decent mechanic apart from the svc guys tune it to a good extent?

sampath d fact is ur bike is not guzzling any extra fuel dan reqd. m gettin 40-42 in bangalore traffic n in highways i got 45-46 only wen m ridin wid in 6k rpm. air filter can not be d direct culprit for low milage, it purely depends on ur ridin style, how u maintained d bike during run in period n ur present maintenance. not all unis give milage above 50, most of dem runs for 40-45 kmpl so don wry n jus enjoy d ride

                                Not b'coz dey are defective
but b'coz dey are so smooth that we stop caring for her.
Like any other bike this baby also needs to be looked after regularly.
Check ur manual for all the clutch and break free plays , carburettor and spark plug tuned and chain slack and lubrication and blah blah.
As far as noisey engine is considered , valve clearance can be a culprit .But rarely seen to go out this much soon.
                                Thanks for the info folks,

What exactly does valve clearance noise from the engine mean and is it a temporary situation/something that can be corrected ? Cause I remember the mechanics also mentioning about valve clearence noise and that it will inevitably come in.

Also the noise I hear seems to be like a regular tinnish sound repetitive sound. somewhat like an old hero honda engine :-( . I can distinctly make the sound out, but should I be concerned about it too much and is it normal ?

Also I get Vibes at exactly 4500 Rpm to 5200 Rpm. In any case I will get this checked again during the 3rd service, but doubt if the mechanics would be able to get down to the root cause.
