Are you sure? 'cos ma 2010 uni give no indication of fading and is still working fine as the switches/markings are concerned; or is it just the buzzer which stopped working? if not they might have dropped the quality:/

4)at a 149 kgs the bike is a bit heavy. getting the bike on the centre stand is a pain because the foot peg on the centre stand is rather short and more often than not, you will end up scraping your shin on the sidestand, which is quite painful.
Putting the bike on its center stand is easy when you are off the bike. and just stress your right leg muscles for this job!

This is how I do it on my zma, hope it helps. Press the centre stand down with left foot, and apply the front brake, now push forward hard, and the bike'll jump on its own and settle in the main stand.

      • Hi All,
I have a 2005 Honda Unicorn and it has done close to 52,000 kms on the odo. All this while, the bike was fun to ride and i was really happy with it.
For the past few months, the cylinder head has started leaking oil and the oil consumption is really high. Although i haven't checked the spark plug but i m sure that is burning oil. I took it to Honda service center and the guy advised to do a half engine build which includes new cylinder kit, piston, piston rings, valves and timing chain. For this he has quoted 7K. He also said if there is some play in the crankshaft, the same needs to be replaced along with crankshaft and some bearings (full engine rebuild) and for this he quoted 18k.
Can you please let me know if the prices he has quoted are fine?

        Thanks

        • Hi,

Get the cost split-up of individual parts from them and compare it with a different ASC, share the costs in the thread also..

18k sounds too much ...i think it wont cost you more than 12-13K for the full engine build. On CBZ Xtreme changing bore+valves+piston +rings costs 5K including labor charges....so 18K i think is very costly .

              • CB Unicorn

Hello everyone, always have wanted to post here.
Just bought a Honda CB Unicorn, colour Black. As usual, it has got the super smooth engine and vibe free pick up at higher speeds. I'm a newbie and will learn riding on it. Any tips for me on what to do to take care of the bike and what not to do?

                  • Hello Guys,
Sorry for late reply...was stuck with work

So here is the bill details
                    Piston Cylinder Kit - 3416.37
                    Padset Front - 452.52
                    Disk Clutch Friction (4 ) - 836.37
                    Plate clutch - 127.66
Levercomp Left hand Lever - 99.59
                    Engine Oil - 268.02
                    Kit Valve Rocker - 576.29
                    Kit Valve Set - 408.04
                    Center Clutch L - 224.33
                    Center Clutch - 167.27
                    Spark Plug (9CPR7EA-9) - 113.13
                    Half Engine Labour - 550
                    Labour - 425
                    Paid Service - 222
                    Total 7764/-

The bike is running fine...but the idle is erratic and there is some bit of tik tik sound from the engine. When inquired the service center guy told, it is because of the loose tappet and the same will be tightened after 500 - 700 km after which the bike would be fine. Currently i have covered around 333 kms @ speed below 45kmph.

                    Now few queries

                    1) The spark plug replace is NGK 9CPR7EA-9 but the user manual and NGK site suggests 9CPR8EA-9, can this be the cause of erratic idling? What is the difference b/w these two? Can i continue using this spark plug?

                    2) I checked the opened the oil dipstick when the bike was cold and the oil was barely visible on it, is this normal? When checked after 1 hour of running, it was sticking on the dipstick, the oil looked good, was sticky and kind of light red/pink in color. But i still do not know how to check the oil level. Please help.

                    3) Yesterday i started the bike in the morning using little bit of choke. I observed the bike was smoking... slightly blue color smoke...it disappeared after few seconds. Is this normal for a newly built engine or the bike gone kaput again

                    Eagerly waiting for 500kms...

                    • @Patil to check engine oil level ride the bike for 3-4 kms or until the crankcase become warm...then put the bike on a flat surface ...remove the dipstick wipe it clean...before you remove the dipstick just use a waste cloth to wipe the dipstick area so as to remove any thing from falling inside the engine...dip the dipstick back in without screwing to check the oil level...sometime if you shake the dipstick it might show the level wrongly...so what i do is i remove my hand and let it stay in that position for a 2-3 sec.

In my xtreme if the tappets are set wrong the RPM will rise to 2K -2.5K RPM when hot.

7K woah that sounds like a lot for a bore kit change...blue smoke maybe the mech overfilled the engine oil ?

the price he has paid for is correct considering the parts he has replaced and work done at a honda asc the part of the bill i find funny is Paid Service - 222 - i mean he has paid for the labor twice (half engine + Labor) and then he is charged for a paid service as well!!!
Q: what did they do as part of the paid service that wasnt covered in the half engine rebuild!!?
                        A: Maybe water wash!

The same is the case with my unicorn. I have set the idle RPM at 1K so that RPM does not shoot up...
Regarding the blue smoke, i saw it only once during a cold start early in the morning, not after that.

I feel all Honda Asc is a joke....when my dad purchase this bike in 2005, it had starting trouble and would take 30-40 mins to ride. The Honda Asc (different from where i did half engine rebuild) was not able to diagnose the problem. The bike was taken to a known mechanic and he suggested its a battery issue. Took the bike to ASC and got the battery charged, after few days same issue, so got it replaced as it was under warranty.

Guys please suggest if the spark plug installed by ASC is fine or do i need to replace it?
                          Thanks

                          • I have been experiencing trouble start since a while with my bike, took it to my mechanic few times have cleaned crab, changed filter to new Viscous type still the problem prevails, Do any one has such experience. I get stuck at places with this starting troubling its annoying most of the times.

I want to change the batteries of my bike and the self start button is also damaged. will I get just the self start switch or have to replace the whole right side switch unit ?
Am also planing to convert bike into full DC electrical mode and upgrade to a 55w bulb.

Please suggest me the best available battery for my bike and will it be useful if I get a 9ah battery instead of the OEM 7ah.

                              • Ngk irdium plug

Hi friends after doing a lot of research, study I have finally done it. The end result is something which I can't express in words u have to do it to believe it. Yes I am talking about spark plugs of Ngk irdium. I have installed crp9eix. As I have said before did a lot of google here before going ahead. As this number is not available on the Ngk web site I know. Well the planet dsg or performanceracing store has the same spark plugs for our unicorn as well as dazzler I am confused between the 2.. U can check it there. & yes I have bought it from my local market. now coming to the after thing of installing the plug. 1. The acceleration has become smooth. 2. Pick well a slight increase. 3. The sound response is very good better from the stock. 4. Morning start has become better checked and confirmed. Earlier when I was in stock mode after pressing choke I was giving 15 kicks then the vehicle used to start but with this if u use choke and slight open your throttle it starts in 1 kick and the rpm response is very good. Plus it become warm faster. Overall I am happy 550 rs I haven't regret at all. Thought of sharing it with you all and yes at the end I have installed this at 3900 km as when I was doing my research I came to know that you should put Ngk only after you have completed you all run in basically after 3000 km. For the better of the vehicle.
