Arnt the SVC guys trained by honda. They are supposed to di a better job than any mechanic IMO.

Re: Honda cb unicorn issue
They are trained but people aren't very happy with asc, they don't tell you properly what's wrong, u gotta leave ur bike with them to get any job done, if they damage ur bike also u won't know. Ask ur friends mechanic itself he might know some people who can work on ur bike.Originally posted by girish78 View PostI am new to Kolkata and dont know a reputed mechanic. Kolkata XBhpians, please suggest me a good mechanic for honda cb unicorn. I stay near Airport.Originally posted by Rakesh Rok View PostYou are in Xbhp, don't forget and there are many in here who are from Kolkatta, you can contact them and ask for help, I am sure they will help you out. . .

I took the bike to SVC again, spoke with the manager and he took a test ride. He admitted that there is some vibration and the bike is slightly aligned to the right. He tried to fix it taking two hours and removed tge handle and fitted it back again. Asked me to check and it appeared okay then, however, upon riding for few moreminutes tge problem of vibration in throttle bar appeared. The vibration is intermittent, sometimes u get it when accelerating from 3rd or 4th gear and sometimes when accelerating after slowing down. It is very irritsting. Also the rattling noise post 60 kmph has increased......i am getting frustrated now....
Someone please hrlp me.........

Re: Honda Unicorn
Buddy, by second run in do mean second service. I am experiencing vibrations in throttle bar and it has been 2 weeks post second service. The vibration goes away if you continue riding it at that speed or increase the speed. Is this a known issue and can something be done to get this fixed??? Please advice.Originally posted by ashwinprakas View Post^^^
Different people different tolerance levels. For some it way vibe, for the rest it wont, so let that discussion be. NOW, for the guys who've been feeling the vibes, keep riding at what speed you feel the bike vibe's the most, for a considerable while and eventually the vibes will go away. Notice at what RPM the bike does 80Kmph(Or the RPM where it vibes.) And rev till that specific RPM in every gear before up shifting and the vibes will go away in no time, I learnt this while doing my second run-in.

Second run in as in my first cyl had partially seized and had replaced it under warranty.Originally posted by girish78 View PostBuddy, by second run in do mean second service. The vibes you are experiencing now is resonance vibes, it will go away if you ride at that RPM for a while, but will keep shifting, so ignore it.Motorcycling Experience:

Re: Honda Unicorn
Manual must have description on how to set time in apache , try pressing both mode and set buttons together (this is in xtreme/hunk) , regarding gears , what grade engine oil are you using and when did you last change it ? For now lube the chain and maintain proper chain slack , this will make shifts smoother, dont forget to change oil if you have crossed 2k kms after last change.Originally posted by Ankur.bhatta View PostBro do you knw how to set time in apache 180fi's meter....n I m havng problem with the gear..It gets stuck sometimes & hard to change the gears... do u ve any idea regarding this...

Restoring, self-serving my 2008 Honda Unicorn
Hello friends. Thanks for the warm welcome. So here I am.
The background. To cut the long story short, I'm looking to restore (detail and replace worn out parts) and service my 2008 Honda Unicorn.
My ride:
The bike's outlook may fool you lol. Here are the things that need to be worked. These are by no means complete but just a starting point. I will keep updating the list as I find time and gain experience
1. Engine Oil needs a change.
2. Headlights, indicator lights and the surrounding plastic holders have faded. The clear plastic look cloudy and the black plastics have turned gray.
3. Chrome parts - Foot brake lever, Shock rods, handle bar and crash guard - have light to medium rust spots.
4. Bolts and nuts look brown. Not sure if they have collected mineral deposits. Does not look like they have rusted though some washers have clearly rusted.
5. Chain need to be cleaned and lube.
6. Engine block (the cylinder fins and the area under the fins) has paint come off. Not sure if it is due to the heat. The paint appears completely disintegrated as if corroded by acid and leaves powdery residue when rubbed by hand. I could see spots of bare metal exposed as well.
7. Tail mud flap needs a change. A kid crashed into my bike from the side a couple of years back and this has resulted in some deformation leading to a misaligned flap. Based on my past encounters with the mechanics, this needs a replacement.
8. Some bare metal partslike the gear shift lever needs to be polished.
9. Have some distemper spots on the alloys. The alloys are painted but the stock finish is such that it feels rough/porous to touch.
10. Muffler. A part of it closer to where it attaches to the cylinder has rusted a lot. The remaining looks really really faded and has some deep scratches. Not worried about this at the moment. May go for an aftermarket sleek muffler later.
The good news is that the body (fuel tank, instrument cluster and side trims) look intact. The tank was little faded but a quick compounding (Meguiars Ultimate Compound) and finishing (Meguiars Ultimate Polish) took care of restoring luster. The ruptured paint on & under the cylinder fins is an eye sore. I will try to restore the faded plastics or can simply replace them one at a time as these are cheap.
The plan is to spend a few hours on the week-ends and attack one problem at a time. Expect tons of stupid questions from me. I will begin posting pictures about the part/function that I'm planning to work on and seek help where required. I will also post back with the finished work on a weekly basis (depending upon my other commitments). Please stay and help me through the journey!

Re: Restoring, self-serving my 2008 Honda Unicorn
Day: Saturday, 7th June 2013
What: Crash guard restoration. Remove rust and polish to gloss.
Products: WD-40 and Eagle One Nevr Dull metal polish.
Status: Ongoing
How:
1. Removed the crash guard (Yay! My first ever me as a bike mechanic)
2. Sprayed WD-40 and letting it dwell for 4 hours
3. Scrubbed with scotch brite scrubber. The result was not impressive. WD-10 removed perhaps 10% of the rust.
4. Soak with vinegar for 30 mins followed by scrub. This gave me a 50% cleaned metal.
5. Scrubbed, scrubbed and scrubbed on forever with Eagle one Nevr Dull to achieve near perfect restoration.
Before:
After:
Up next weekend...
1. Remove fuel tank. Clean fuel strainer.
2. Remove seat. Clean the area - Meguiars APC/Degreaser, wd-40, CarPro PERL
3. Hand compound and polish the tank to remove light swirls - Meguiars Ultimate Compound , Ultimate Polish (if needed), Klasse All In One and Klasse Sealant Glaze
4. Replace new Air filter.
----consecutive posts auto-merged-----
I'm looking to buy some parts. Air filter would be the first one and will be needing more spares as I see need. I would like to know if the genuine Honda spares are available only at the Honda Authorized (Bike) Service centers or can as well be bought off any Automobile shops? Will there be any price difference?
Also, please refer some good Auto shops in Chennai where the Unicorn spares can be bought.

Good Work. Learning your bike better
Got for a Paper type Air filter as it can be cleaned once in few thousand Kms and can be replaced around 10K Kms.
I believe the Viscous type air filter cannot be cleaned but only be replaced and also cost higher than the Paper type.
Air Filters are available in most of the Multi-brand spare parts shops. You can also get one from any nearby Honda Showroom. Being in Chennai, it is not difficult to find a showroom.
I remember getting Paper-type air filter for 99 rs some 16 months back.
If you have additional few minutes, try to clean your Spark-plug. you can remove the deposits with either a blade or a sand paper.2005 - Hercules MTB Thriller | 2018 - Apollo Evade

CB Unicorn issue and Honda service centers in Bangalore
Hi guys,
I own a 2 months old CB Unicorn. I am very happy with its performance so far except that whenever I start my bike after keeping it idle for 2 hours or more, it takes minimum 10-15 minutes for its throttle to open up completely. Till then even if I accelerate, I get a fuel missing kind of feeling.
Because of this issue, I am forced to use choke every time I start the bike and drive at 30 Km speed range for first 10-15 minutes.
Service center people says its common for all new bikes and didn't do anything to solve this issue though I insisted. Well, I didn't understand what sort of justification is this!! They didn't do anything other that changing the oil (which is not free) and a bad water service..
So please help me guys..If any of you have experienced this issue, please let me know how to resolve this.
Also, please comment which Honda service center is best in Bangalore.
Thanks in advance for your help..cheers

Isn't meguires expensive? Buy airfilter from SVC itself as there are many fakes in local shops, the viscous filter should cost around 160 bucks.Originally posted by keerthi.unicorn View PostDay: Saturday, 7th June 2013
