I have a 2006 Honda Unicorn for which very recently I had the tyres changed.
As per advice on this forum I bought Michelin Sirac Street (Both Front and Back)

Almost immediately I noticed that a strange vibration on the Brake and Gear pedal at very low RPMs in each gear. It was as if something was being pulled and let go.
The duration is very very small maybe a couple of seconds. The exact RPMs are

In third gear -> Around 2100-2300 RPM (can notice it prominently here)
In fourth -> Around 1900 RPM
    In fifth Around 1800 RPM

I know its very less speed for the top gears, but did it only to test the points. It happens both during acceleration and deceleration, I could only relate it to RPM readings.

Please help me out on this. I have run across 3-4 mechanics and they seem to just fire in the dark!
Kindly reply any advice is greatly appreciated!
What's the tyre size you got for rear?

      Hello Sinnerz2000,

My rear tyre is Michelin Sirac Street 100/90x18.
Please advice me if this was the right choice or not.

Put ur bike in center stand and check if the rear tyre is moving freely without touching the swingarm or chain guard, the 2005/6 unicorn has a narrow swingarm. And also check the area above the rear tyre(below the seat) if the tyre is touching there when the suspension compresses.

Using FS oil in unicorn is useless, use a SS oil and save money, u can try Motul 5100 10w40 costs around 550

              Hi,

Today I have purchased Honda Unicorn, I was told that the delivery will be at 3:00pm but got the delivery at 5:15pm.

Can any one please let me know more about RPM, sales guy told me that while the bike is in neutral RPM should be in "1" and not to ride the bike above 60kms/hr till it completes 1000 Kms.

Service guys fixing the extra fittings to my bike before delivery

Congrats for the new bike and welcome to the group :-) the ideal rpm at neutral should be 1.4 the bike will stall if its at 1, and while riding just make sure u don't cross 4 rpm at any gear till 1st service is over, after that you can continue that till second service if u want to, its not necessary but it'll be better. Its a great bike and I guarantee ull enjoy riding it, if u have any questions were here to help, good luck.

                • Is my unicorn' engine seized?

Hello friends, I am a wing rider since December 2004. The experience has been really good but for past few days was able to notice lot of issues with the engine, could hear the mill struggling, high temp, more oil consumption also.

Today it suffered a severe loss of power and although gets started but does not move an inch forward.

I believe that the engine has seized. Is this true?

If yes, I believe then a rebore and piston replacement is the need of the day. Correct?

The engine has already had a rebore once when it was 7.5 years old and at 70k kms after which the performance dipped (was never able to touch 100). Now it's almost 9 years old and at 82k kms. Will it be able to stand another rebore?

Probably it's time to part with humble, reliable companion. Don't think can sell it to anybody at its condition, so not sure what to do.

If oil is being consumed then the piston rings have gone bad which is the reason why the bike might have seized, try kicking starting the bike to see if the kicker moves freely. A bike should be able to take about 4 rebores, take your bike to a reputed Mech to get your engine thoroughly checked to find the actual cause of early seizing rather than just reboring it every time. If properly done, the bike should be able to last you another 60k km with proper maintenance. Bdw which grade and brand oil do you use?

Hey thanks for the prompt response dude. Appreciate it.

The kicker does move freely. Intact the bike starts and tries to maintain idle for sometime although bogs down the moment I try to move it.

I use shell semi synthetic. Although this last change was with a mak. Don't see any issue with them. The problem would be to find a reputed mechanic.

Then your bike is not seized, does white smoke come from the exhaust?

Yes, do you think the engine oil must have entered the cylinder chamber?

Running in? if you are asking after I did the re-bore (almost 15,000 kilometers / 15 months back)?

Yes, believe so. This issue started only sometime back after a long drive that I took it for (400kms in a day with a pillion). Did notice that the engine became really hot (oil was just changed and was adequately available throughout the trip though). So probably, the excess heat could have worn out the rings, causing space for the oil to seep through.

Unicorn is capable of doing 400km a day that shouldn't be a problem, better find a good Mech or go to the ASC itself and get the engine checked.
