  • do you all think the speedo is trusty?
there are inbuilt errors i guess
    so 120 or 125kmph may not be 110 n 115 i guess even

The spoke-wheel shod Uni's are quicker every which way as they are 7-8 kilos lighter than the alloy-wheel versions.
Also, Im told by Joel saar that the current iteration runs a smaller main-jet for better FE. Hence, the 4th gen bikes are far more refined and probably have better FE. But unfortunately, are also considerably slower than the first and second gen bikes thanks to the weight gain and the miserly main-jet.

Love the added refinement and the spruced up looks though
By peppier i meant revv happy, otherwise 1-2-3g uni's are undoubtedly faster .

      • ^^Thats true, Ill give you that. The smoother engine makes you wanna use more revs although you certainly do need more with that extra weight from the alloys

        How's your Uni doing btw?
Ive to drop her off for service tomorrow. Dad's complaining of increased engine noise and harshness.
An oil change, chain lubing oughta get the Uni back upto speed methinks...

          • How long ill da unicorn run if da bike is maintained properly?

Ne-way my friends bike has clocked 68000 nd its still smoother dan a 1000km clocked pulsar

            • Gents, my brand new unicorn done 34 kms yet cuts off the engine below 1500 RPM (I am guessing the figure) but in first gear if I do not keep it slightly revved it turns off easily and I have to restart. Can anyone tell me what the problem could be or it will solve after 1st service after some adjustment.

well, i trust my speedo cause my frnd was behind on a rtr at 115 while i was moving away at the 120+...so i guess according to u all bikes in india have a -15~20 kmph error...

i have put my uni to all sorts of abuse- burnouts, wheeles, high speed runs for more than an hour twice almot thrice a week, arnd 15 crashes(3majour),did some engine work(head, piston rings, syn's, plati plugs,k&n,jets) and now after 50k (starting from 47k),i feel that it is making a bit of niose, but i guess i'll take her upto 60k...

                  • @Saif: Good to know that your Uni is doing great man. I wouldn't have expected anything less

@Almond: What's the idling rpm when the engine is cold (First start in the morning or starting the bike after the bike's been stationary for 4-5 hours)?

may be i exaggerated the difference but no ways i meant that
well yes i have heard all stock speedo's have some error
can be of 1kmph also ...... but they have it......... that is why people use speed guns!!!!

and i doubted it because honda tells that uni has a top speed of 101kmph
so i tht how cud it go till that
may be by top speed they meant at which u can ride safely

Mav, idling at first start in the morning is between 1000 & 1200 rpm for the first few minutes.

henceforth, the idling rpm settles at 1200.

                          • Thats what's leading to the engine turning itself off at lower revs man
All bikes come from the factory tuned very lean. That coupled with the extremely low idling rpm is choking the bike at lower revs.
That would be set right at the first service.

If you know which the idling screw is (Look to the manual), bump up the idling to about 1200 revs (cold). That oughta solve your problem mate...

and abt the 4th gen being quicker, who said that???
i outran each and every 4th gen uni with my 1st gen which i did not even change the cluthch plates even after 50K...
thats what all my mech's say, that the 1st gens are quicker...
and just yesterday, there was this guy on a new uni,he was almost in the mid rpms in the fifth, when i changed to 5th and flew by him..(he was desperately trying to catch me up,so i gave a chance but he could not,so i flew off..)
Wow synthetic oil does wonders.I have seen it myself in my CBZ did 125Km/hr @ 9600RPM.The reason i asked the ? is on the highway i easily overtake the new unicorns they fail to keep up with the xtreme even though they r the same. But i admit i run on synthetic oil.I have seen unicorns with 96000kms on odo running on stock pistons and still going strong, man is this a bike or a tank.As far as unicorns and xtremes overtaking an RTR -hahahaha no chance.

The owner's manual recommends idling RPM at 1400.
