I bought a Karizma's NGK OEM plug today for Rs 60 (MRP 75) and HH sells it for Rs 270 in Honda packing.
default plug for uni2005 is CPR8EA-9 , and CPR9EA-9 which i baught HAS 130.00 printed MRP!
also just saying oem plug wont point to right item .. quote model no of plug u baught

posting pic is much better though!!
    CPR9EA-9

    straight from manual:

    reacommended plugs:
    standard :
    CPR8EA-9 (NGK) OR
    RG6YC (CHAMPION)

    FOR EXTENDED HIGH SPEED RIDING:
    CPR9EA-9 (NGK)

    • ^^^ viv.nomad, thanks for pointing this out. I was ignoring the number there as there's only one plug of that type in NGK's part list in India and that is the CPR8EA-9

That's the same Honda packing I was speaking about for the Karizma's plug. Honda buys from NGK in Japan, export it to India and sells it here. Cost goes up 30% In Karizma's plug's case, I think even HH added their margin and made the price go up by 200%

That's a nice piece of info from the manual. Honda suggested a separate plug for extended high-speed riding - a colder plug.

      • colder , i dont know what u meant by that but .

it is COOLer though!! this plug was like treasure some time b4 but now honda started ordering this , and i got one thanx to a mech @honda who said it is available.. and i baught it immediatly as i was looking for this by the time i baught uni [ since 2005 ] waited almost 4 y for it!!!

HH sometimes is giving Champion plugs for the Karizma instead of the NGK and there is a difference between these two. Hope Honda didn't do such stuff. The distributor has about 33% margin on MRP and the dealer has about 15% on MRP for the NGK plugs.
So the Champions aren't as good as the NGKs? You have tried them both?

I'm just curious... why were you waiting so long for the colder plug? Is it like most of your riding involves extended high speed trips?

            • hey one more thing
Will cpr 8eagp-9 outperform cpr9eagp-9 in
              top speed performance ? or
low and mid range acceleration ? or
              both or
noway better den cpr9ea-9 ?(discarding d long life of platinum)
The Automotive batteries are designed to work best in a typical short start-stop fashion.
So to increase the life of your automobile battery, blow the horn and flash the pass light in a quick start stop fashion instead of a conitnuous long horn blow or flash light continuous on!!
And obviously don't stretch the self start far too long.

                • the Trip meter button of the Uni seems immovable. Does it work or is there something else to it ?

also the heel-toe shift is unavailable at the Honda Service Centre. Can anyone suggest what alternate solutions are available for the same. Can the HH Hunk or or CBZ Extreme Heel toe shift replace the Honda Unicorn toe-shift. Are any other models parts applicable here ?

the toe-shift can be a pain with squarish-front shoes.

                  • Are Apache RVM's too big for Unicorn? Which are the Best RVM's for Uni?

                    Comment

                    • the current RVM's are actually not bad. They are good enough till around 40s and in tight city conditions. Above that I guess a biker really doesn't need any RVMs.

RVMs are absolutely necessary in almost every condition. City traffic or highway rides. 10kmph or 100kmph. I am not tyring to be politically correct here. From my experiences I learnt that if you do not want surprises coming from behind you, better keep an eye on the RVMs

hehe... cooler is the correct word such things indicate that I feel sleepy by 11pm as I wake up by 6-6:30 AM

Yes. The NGK's at least gave me better start and cold start performance if not anything else. Speaking strictly about the Nickel plugs.

The Platinum (G-Power) plugs are supposed to be good at higher speeds as it doesn't misfire like the nickels at high speeds (goes unnoticeable to you generally. If you get a better plug it shows in the high end acceleration a bit) and the platinum plugs withstand continuous high temperatures better than the nickel plugs.

But then, cannot say how good a platinum plug would work compared to one number cooler nickel plug.

Genuine Unicorn spares are available at many places outside. Pls check out in the market for Unicorn's gear shifter and you are more likely to get one.

hello hydbiker, probably in a place like Delhi or Hyderabad this is possible. My current domicile is a small town in Kerala where I doubt I would get these spares easily. But anyhow will make an effort when I visit Cochin sometime next week.

At the risk of sounding stupid, I need to ask something about Uni's trip meterl. Does it really work or do I have a bad example. Or does it work only when the bike is in motion ?

                              My trip meter seems jammed.

                              • ^^^ the trip meter works. It is a mechanical thing and if it is jammed, ask ur SC guys to set it right.

the gear lever, just try out. dunno what they'd do if any Uni has a fall and the gear lever is bent or broken!!! they gotta keep spares as the Uni is a decently common bike on our roads.
