That's why now a days I always check online about stuff before going to Service Center for anything, ranging from bikes to mobiles.

    • After a long time i am back to forum. Now i am regularly servicing my unicorn at bu bhandari (camp). when ever i am riding solo, bike is good. when ever i have pillion rider, bike behaves little unstable, I mean i have diffculty in controlling in taking quick turns in traffic. I have kept the tyre pressures optimum by testing in various places.

In my first service i told them to soften shock absorber , is it creating this problem. Also earlier i drove bajaj boxer ct for 10 years, reaching 60 is so eary, here i unicorn i feeling engine is putting great effort to take me to 60 kmph. any thoughts and suggestons.

I should get all these issues fixed before my warranty period .. i am worried.

      • Soft shock absorber setting is good for single rider, but two up, you have to keep it medium or hard, because at soft setting, the bike will be jumping like a horse at each uneven spot on the road (self experience).

About reaching 60KMPH speed, no idea. Maybe someone else can tell.

        • Is it possible to adjust the seat height in Unicorn ? My father finds it terribly difficult to climb onto the pillion due to the upward slant on the seat towards the rear. I asked him to try climbing at different angles, and from behind, but nothing has helped so far. He also suffers from hernia, which makes me worry.

          Any solutions ?

          • You can try hardening the shocks, which will reduce the height of seat by a few cm, but then the shocks will be too much to bear for a hernia patient!

Seat height can't be adjusted too much, it has to be cut/pasted for height adjustment. If the friend is short, tell him to first stand on the rear left footpeg completely, and then cross the leg over to the other side. This way is much easier than to cross the heighted pillion seat and then sitting on it.

in my exp the hardening of shocks increases the height of seat and vica-versa

              • Hardening means compressing the shocks, so that the spring will become condensed, which in turn reduces the height. Soft setting means spring is fully open, no compression, so it is sensitive to smallest of bump, thus increasing the seat height.

                • softer setting means shock will be compressed even by bikes own weight and harder setting result in spring becoming hard and tough to compress by bikes own wt. hence greater height of rear!!

For 60 kmph issue , check for your air filter getting clogged , spark plug inspection by a good mechanic , inspect the chain slack , hw old is your engine oil .
if all the above are ok den get d carburettor tuned by a good mechanic (remeber a good mechanic) and if still its creating a problem den ask again
The Automotive batteries are designed to work best in a typical short start-stop fashion.
So to increase the life of your automobile battery, blow the horn and flash the pass light in a quick start stop fashion instead of a conitnuous long horn blow or flash light continuous on!!
And obviously don't stretch the self start far too long.

                      • My unicorn has been put back together!

I went on a short tour out of Chennai. On the way back I made a big mistake which most inexperienced tourers do; I tried to maintain the same speed patterns i could pull off on the highway.
Somewhere on the East Coast Road, in the blink of an eye, a van crossed the road. I honked my horn but he just sat there, waiting to go over to the other side. From 80Kmph i braked over a length of approx. 5-10 m and crashed into him. Minimum damage to him. My helmet took the brunt of the crash, and I stood up at the moment of impact so i escaped bodily harm. The front fairing, instrumentations, eletricals and mud-guard were all smashed absolutely. the fork was bent a bit. I drove it to the Showroom later on.

A week or so later, the bill stands at Rs.6K, and the insurance wallahs have footed 5K of it. But I am still sorry for wrecking it in the first place.

I am a lot wiser for it now though.

PS: I think no other model or make of bikes could have possibly taken such a beating and come out of it with this damage. I feel the Unicorn is built to last, notwithstanding the stupidity of its riders, like me!

Yeah my unicorn was good enough to be driven even after I hit the van maybe at 40 kmph, after braking down from 80 kmph. The front fork was twisted a bit, none of the electricals worked, and my spectacles were cracked (they hit the interior of the helmet and cracked even as i wore them!)...yet i drove on for another 10 Km to the showroom straight for the sake of availing insurance without any hitch

                                Well
Top speed means the speed of d bike at its max. power output.
Like max. power of unicorn is 13.3 bhp@8000 rpm , this means dat d bike will be at a speed of 101 km/hr at an rpm of 8000 on tacho
now as d rpm goes to 9000 and further , d speed will increase to upto 120+ km/hr.
                                gt it ! !
