cbr not been updated since launch is my greatest eye sore about 250r leaving out cosmetic changes. my ride would be a mix of highway and city.
is it wise to buy a cbr 250r in 2016? should i wait for an update? or wait to see yamaha r15 V3 ?

(PS: although my heart is set on Yamaha R3 but its way out of my budget.)
bro there's a huge difference between both bikes as my previous bike was r15v2 and now I own cbr250.

ok r15 is best for city rides gives great mileage of 45 to 48kmph. very sharp on turns and bend. like wise it has excellent breaks. Riding position is too aggressive initially pams will pain but there no gain without pain.

for touring I myself had tried 750km a day that was mumbai to madurai 1650km distance I had to take some pain killer pills. after 120kmph r15v2 slowly gains speed to 135kmph. you can redline all day no problem. its not a touring machine. its a war machine.

now cbr250 has one universal problem city rides the ratio of first gear is too short and the ratio of second gear is too tall. so if you have bumper to bumper city ride you will feel something has gone wrong with your riding habit.

It's a great touring bike with a descent mileage of 30kmph. huge difference coz of the 100cc while you throttle. Normally one can ride 125kmph all day long. top speed I have been is 147kmph still I had a lot of space in throttle. you cannot redline power comes to a halt in between 9.5k to 10k rpm.

Maintenance is costly. abs breaks are awesome one must feel to understand. As a r15v2 rider I was like "abs" its useless for me as I'm good in gear control and applying sudden breaks without locking the tyres. but I was wrong.

total 7 sensors. I feel proud to own cbr250r. like wise my love for r15v2 cannot be replaced.

my suggestion is if you are a ruff rider go for r15v2 and if you are more into touring or long distance ride then buy cbr.

but don't jump for cbr150 in 150cc segment nothing can beat r15v2.

hope my message is of some help.

Thanks a lot mate. I am all set on CBR. One question though. I don't like the new color scheme. If i order the old paint scheme ,would i get a year old manufactured machine ? Is it wise ?

          • Off-Road Tyres For CBR 250R - Kudajadri Trip

            Hey Guys ,

I am from Kochi .Me and my friends are planning a trip to Kudajadri,Kollur and have been preparing for some time now for the same . The trip mostly involves about 1100kms of Highway and the rest 100kms will be hard offroad trail , climbing the Kudajadri Hills and back(I have done the same trip 2 years back with the same bikes and couldnt climb the hills due to lack of grip from the Continentals . The trails are conquered by jeeps with offroad tyres and 4wd everyday though ). Me myself (on CBR250r) and my friends Arun(CBR 250r0 and Vishnu (RE DEsert Storm500) will be there for the trip . My bike is 49k kms old cbr 250 . The front tyre was the Continental and the rear is currently MRF Revz C 150-60-r17 . The front is completely worn out and I have to replace it ASAP . Also it is monsoon season ,, and the MRF at the rear is struggling for Grip .. So I decided to replace the front and rear together , store the MRF for the summer and buy dual purpose tyres for the trip and the monsoon.

Since there will be a lot of slush and dirt involved in the kudajadri trip , i searched for suitable tyres which can handle considerable offroad terrain . I found from another thread ( a guy who went to Leh on his Duke 390 ) about Ceat Vertigo 120-80-17 rear tyre and 100-80-r17 front tyre used on the Duke 390 (With a little modifications on the front Mudguard to fit the Tyre). I am sure that both these tyres fit the rims of my CBR , But i am unable to find the Vertigo 120-80-17 tyre anywhere in kochi . I found out that vertigo 120 size has been phased out . I still kept searching for suitable tyres and came across two heavily treaded tyres in a shop . These were Ralco/Ralson tyres . One was Ralco Blaster 120/80/17 and the other was Ralco Blaster 110/80/17 . But i found out recently that the tyres on the new RE Himalayan , size being 120/90/17 would also fit the rims of my bike . Now I am in a dilemma

            Suggested Tyres
            Ceat Vertigo 120-80-17
            Ceat Vertigo 100-90-17
            Ralco Blaster 120-80-17
            Ralco Blaster 110-80-17
TVS Pancer 120-80-17(Another Tyre I found)
            Birla Firemaxx r45 120-80-17(YEt another one )

0)Which one of these should i go with??Click image for larger version

1)If i go for Ralco 110/80/17Font ,Will i have to modify the front mudguard mounts to accomodate the taller tyre ??(This is really important)
2)Will the Ceat Gripp 120/90/17 tyre of the Himalayan fit my bike without any issues ??(If i get my hands on one ,Else it is gonna be Ralco)
3)Are there any other offroad tyres available for the CBR 250R ??

I'd suggest replacing them, if the bend is severe, a very slight bend can be mended through hammering, though these are solid aluminum cast, they can just crack at their whim when you least expect. Secondly check your throttle cable/tube since you had a fall, the plastic notch might be cracked/broken causing the ball end on one the cables not getting properly seated and can cause notchy throttle cable response, do check that too.

It's made of solid iron. I think it can be straightened by heating method. Hammering may disfigure the pipe. There is a weight bar inside the pipe. Probably, that would need correction too if bent angle is more. New one costs 800 for one side.

Oh my, I thought it was cast aluminum, thank you for correcting me. Yes, I think negligible a bend can be somewhat mended through slight heating process but probably new one isn't that costly at least by the prices we're seeing here.

I got it changed. Cost me 800 bucks for the handle. Uniride Honda Malapuram, Kerala is a large Svc, and they have 10 service bays. Got the bike in 2 hours.

Also got a pair of steel valve caps.

Hey guys..I had bought the cbr 250r....om first of may ND now after 1 and a half months.... I find a gasket has blown ND oil is leaking from it...it is not the head gasket....but below where the exhaust port lies.....I contacted the svc... They say it's not in Stock so they opened the head to tighten the bolts, saying three were loose...now..I again find its leaking from, the same part. They will eventually order the gasket but to install it they have to remove the engine. What should I do..? Let them open and fix it or should I force for a new engine, the issue is of only the gasket. The odo is only at 1200 km. Please help.i shall post the pics of leakage in a while I personally don't want to engine to be dismantled from the bike!!
Could you guys also advise what precautions shall I take.?

Basically there are three gaskets in the CBR, valve cover and middle cylinder gasket and lower cylinder gasket. The former is comparatively easier to replace than the latter. The latter requires the engine head to be undone, install the new gasket and them reassembled, it's a time consuming task. It would be a good idea to change both the head and cylinder gaskets both in one go, purely for peace of mind and saves time and headache on petty issues later on. Replace the leaking gasket as soon as you can.

                              Cheers!
