At the 6k service, I ask the service centre guys to check the oil and when they gave the ok I checked the oil level and topped it up at 6k.

Wat about smell and viscosity of the oil? Well my view is change oil based on your riding style... If your all out ripping open your engine all the time then the oil change interval should be at 1000-2000kms max, if you have a mixed riding style, like me,I like to take my bike up to 7000rpm but not all the time, my oil change is kept at 3000-3500, otherwise if your very docile and gentle more than 80% of the time then u can follow the service center advised interval change at 5000-6000kms or 6 months...

That is indeed a good practice. I ride very carefully and don't stretch the engine past 7k rpm most of the time. Mostly, there's no noticeable smell from the oil. But at around 8k after the change it smells a litle bit like petrol. I have been trying this as an experiment to asses the lifespan of the oil and so far it has been good.

quarter_liter_master - please log your future oil changes here on xbhp. I need that info badly. Apart from 2-3 senior riders here, all the guys change their FS oil at 3k-5k kms citing 'personal reasons' or 'best for the bike', but nobody really knows how long an FS oil lasts. People claim the oil has become Paani type, but have they actually tested the viscosity in a lab? I couldn't find any info on that.

OK. I will log my oil changes and whatever info I can gather about the same. I think there's also a lab called "Polytest" that provides testing services of such kind. I'll enquire with them about the cost and share it here.

              Xbhpians..

              Anyone using MRF massater?
Is yes,how is the grip especially on corners?

Is Massater a better option than MRF revs C1 ?
Although MRF call massater a cornering specialist, its not even a Radial tyre.
Am bit confused on which tyre to get.
              Need help!

              Thank you! ☺

I too ride very gently i.e. most of time at ~5k rpm range. Occasionally 6/7/8k that too very rare for couple of seconds to keep the engine power delivery linear. Right now I'm using Shell 10w40 from last 4.5K and now I think gear shifting is not that smooth. Oil level is fine and no smell and no engine roughness. What is suggested? What can make my my gear shifting smoother?

Sorry I haven't experienced that so early in the oil change cycle. Is the roughness too noticeable? You could add a little fresh oil to the oil reservoir for starters and check the results.

I often have the weird experience of engine and gear roughness when I travel to my native place from Pune. It becomes quite noticeable and rough when I decend the ghats and get closer to the coast wheras the performance seems elevated in Pune. I guess pressure, temperature and lots of stuff affect the performance easily.

Well the performance is okay IMO. But I feel a non-smooth gear shifting.

And the video was sponsored by Pennzoil, which obviously, wants customers to use the most profitable oil. The end viscosity comparison makes no sense. Synthetic is any day better than mineral, that's a fact proven many years ago. What is in dispute, m'lord, is the change interval.

In my humble experience (minus any lab tests, just observations), I haven't seen any bike remain as smooth with a cooler engine and non cluncky shifting post 7k km on FS oils. So 6k km intervals make sense.
In our climate and load conditions, cars mandate oil changes at 10-12k mark. Bikes need it earlier because they rev higher and engines are smaller. Moreover, a few hundreds won't hurt me, but a nasty engine issue due to bad oil, will for sure.

Coming to CBR250R, I would stick to 5-6k km intervals, regardless of what FS oil I pour.

Divya bhai, I couldn't help thinking, what if you had completed 1 lakh kms on your Karizma with oil changes at 6k instead of the 1-2k you use, would you then recommend 1-2k intervals? I think not.

I have no data on Karizmas but the CBR 250 can last with 6-10k synth oil change intervals, that is now a fact proven by 2-3 hyper milers. So, in my honest opinion based on current facts, the guys changing Synth oil at 2k or 4k on a CBR250 are changing too early.

So far, I've heard 5-10 engines by different brands, Japs and Indian, which have been damaged by low engine oil level, which can be traced to user error/carelessness. But not one case where the engine has been damaged due to changing oil at manufacturer recommended intervals.

So I have a theory - oil change depends on people, not bikes. When the company gives 4k interval, people moan about costs. When the company gives 12k service interval, they say, yeah, but can the oil last 12k? When they give 6k, people don't follow that either. They follow their current state of mind.

                              Hey Guys..
                              Am ARUN from Chennai..

Previously i owned Pulsar 200 NS for a good 3yrs with odo of 27k kms.
Sold it 5 months back and using Passion X pro since then ( brothers bike who left to Singapore for work )
Now as my brother is returning back to INDIA am getting a new bike..

I need to clear few things from CBR owners..

Is the Bike parts easy to access if any repair required?

How much does a service cost without Engine oil change ( Paid service )

Are parts like Air Filter, foot pegs etc expensive or dirt cheap

Main reason why i sold my NS is that, its hard to maintain and to access basic parts you need to completely strip the bike to access it..

Am getting the Repsol edition. Going to book it on 25th of this month.

Is the Waiting Period really 45 days or i will get it bit early too?

Also am having lower back pain.. which happened due to long hours of sitting in office chair.

Will the bike give any kinda stress to the back? or its super comfy to ride it?

I have tried Shell and Motul both FS oils but found both of them lost the gear shifting smooth feel /quality @ around 5k kms and the engine note also felt coarse. Leave alone the hypermilers, when they will need to open the engine they will need to replace each and every component which there.
