  • ^^ I asked for the Oil Filter but it wasn't available at Om Sai Honda (or their workshop) but they said they have placed an order for a lot (I don't know how many).
So they too currently don't have any oil filters I am presuming.

I got my bike delivered yesterday hence the need to get one asap!

    • Pune to Rajkot posting trip: a small CBR review.

      Update

After the 1st service, the engine has become much, much smoother.

I have not had an opportunity for long drives and so it is just home to office and back kind of commuter riding. The CBR does NOT like our congested traffic conditions and no matter how smooth one is with the clutch and the throttle, she snatches and jerks like a thoroughbred made to give rides at on the beach...

For me, the biggest issue is of the posture. I just cannot find the right combo of wrist, arm, neck, back and hip angles to ride comfortably for even more than about 15 minutes. I am just a shade below 6 feet in height and yet, this is a really painful issue.

My research on the net showed me that even a 1 inch rise in the height of the clip-ons makes ALL the difference. With this in mind, I started scouting for answers.

A really quick and sharp workshop owner (the bro-in-law of one of my clerks) suggested a simple but effective solution, which he has used on R15s, namely:

      1. Remove the fork caps (the large hexagonal aluminum bolt type structure) to reveal the approx 18 mm deep threaded aperture beneath.

      3. Remove the clip-ons.

      2. Machine a solid cylinder (mild steel) about 1.5 inches long and with the same diameter as that of the fork tube AND with a bolt extension of the same dimensions as the threaded hole at 1 above.

      3. Screw this cylinder onto the exposed fork tube threaded aperture. Now, there is a 1 inch high EXTENSION of the fork tube over and above the existing (and now former) mounting point of the clip-ons.

      4. Attach the clip-ons back onto THIS cylinder.

      5. Voila! The clip-ons are up by one inch.

The lack of slack in the cables prevent any extensions over 1 or at the max 1.25 inches.

Friends, please give your considered opinion on this course of action which, you would have noticed, does not cause ANY invasion of the structure of the vehicle.

      • My front alloy wheel got slightly bent at the bead when I hit a deep pothole at around 75-80 kmph. There is no air loss - I unknowingly used the bike for 300kms after the incident. I am keen on getting a replacement rather than repair, but I am pretty sure that Honda will take ages for replacement.
Any idea about the price and availability of alloy wheels? Also, is there any other wheel that fits front wheel of CBR?

Guys, be careful with potholes as the wheels do not seem to be strong. I missed the pothole because of rain.

This, sir, is a very well written article! You have a knack to keep the reader interested! Big ups for that...
W.R.T. your general opinions about the bike, i more or less agree to what you are saying here though i haven't done a very long trip on the CBR as yet.
Personally i don't have a negative opinion about the bike as such. But there are a few points where Honda could've made a few adjustments to make it a legend...
Hoping that i do a long ride soon!
          Cheers!

            • Does not go beyond 128 kmph

Guys, I bought CBR only to experience some high speed budget fun . Thought it should do 140 KPH atleast when various sites have been quoting 150 + speeds. But sadly today on Noida expressway I could not go beyond 128 kph with entire throttle. Tried everything like ducking etc but to no avail. I was wearing a somewhat loose wind cheater and not those closely hugging leather jackets. Also I am 96 kg man with very broad shoulders and a real big build. I can ofcourse not get to downsizing but is there something I can do to attain that magic number of 140? How do you guys do it? People here have claimed top speeds of about 142 etc. Somebody please help me before I scream out my lungs and pull out my hairs

I am gonna go away to Manipal University, Karnataka now and my CBR stays home alone in Cuttack,Orissa....

As far as i cud find out, seniors say that Manipal has an off-campus parking lot with adequate security..the only prob is the never ending rain!!

                I have three options now:

                1.Sell it for 1.3 lacs

                2. bribe the SVC guys and the cbr mecho with a 500-1000 note and ask him to keep visiting my residence and update my CBR on weekly basis(my home isint far from the SVC)

                3. take my CBR along with me (a saddlesore to be precise)

but as far i think...Manipal is a hill station and therz this never ending rainfall...apart from that, its so close to the arabian sea!! so rusting will start off even before i start studying....

Nearby guys please comment on the issue...i just have 4 days to decide the fate of my sweetheart.

if u suggest me to take it..its done and done!!

if u suggest me to keep it...also done and done!!

if u suggest me to sell it, well i am gonna have a heavy heart..i really love my CBR!!

will it be any problem if it is ridden for 10-20 days and then stored without use for nearly 3 months at a stretch..??

                help me guys!!!
                take your bike with you.
manipal has lots and lots of motorcycles, and they are still the best way to get around. you wont regret it
There's a power that comes from deep inside of you
'Cause every day you're reaching toward the light
And you know there's a long long way ahead of you
But when your wheels get you there,
                Things will turn out right!

                • Guys Yesterday got my first service done at 735 kms but during the service the SVC guy did not change the oil filter and said that its done at 2000+ kms and said to get it done on next service at 6000 kms, quite a long way to go huh!

I noticed that after cleaning and all the guy cleaned the chain with diesel or kerosene and applied grease to it , to which i objected , the SVC guy said that it is not harmful and is usually done to all CBR's everywhere. I gave him a long lecture on the use of chain cleaner and lube and on the nature of O-ring chain but all in vain. At the end he just smiled and said we don't use chain cleaner and lube coz it damages the chain, i was like WTF . Guys most of the SVC 's in Delhi are using grease to lube CBR chains and justifying it.

lastly on delivering the bike he gave me a first service bill of 1100 rs , i was like what??? agreed that engine oil is around Rs 750 but he added something called power oil for Rs 350, now what on the earth is this power oil?? any idea?

Yep the SHIMs need change. I only wish HMSI made Titanium shims even if it costed like a K for 2 shims. That would last long like hell & would need no change for quite a good distance.

1000 Kms...hmm...its quite a good distance. But remember not to push your engine much. Do a gradual acceleration & avoid engine braking. This is to defer shaving the SHIMs further.

Looks like everyone should buy oil filters first followed by the bike

This is exactly the same issue I had too on my first engine. Couldn't get past 115 Kmph with pillion. Keep pushing the ASC, otherwise there's no result. Make the ASC give up, so that they call HMSI & get to see your bike.

So we can use these oil filters for US models on Indian CBRs? Also, should I change the oil filter when I hit 1000km? The SVC guys don't seem to have any parts available for the bike.

Excellent idea sir I'll try to talk to those guys tomorrow.

But I've a very little confiedence that they'll be able to get. Reason being that, Grayboys placed order for 20 oil filters & they got only one. The whole of Peoria doesn't have an oil filter for a C250R.
