I gave this job to a friendly neighbourhood workshop guy here in Rajkot.
He is Gopalbhai Parmar and his number is 09824700742.
You can give him my reference as coming from Colonel Joshi. He will charge about Rs 2000/- for 02 X extensions and 01 X tension bar, material, power, labour, chrome all incl (courier charges extra, of course
). Yes, I know it is a little steep but par for the course being a custom job.
Regards

@icemang:The thing is that one gets accustomed to a sportbike posture in a month. The muscles get developed and the pain stops. In fact I like the aggressive posture of the superbikes. We have to adjust to them. Makes us feel like on the race-track. The prone position of attack. Just like in a race.I hate the upright position of my P220 for the same reasons. The best tourer in the world,Honda VFR 800 also has an aggressive position.
But since you wanted to tour and not go cornering, so be it. To each his own!

Man, was I also so put off by that terrible bar...
You see, when the clip-ons are raised, the screen interferes withe the lock to lock steering of the handle bar. Options?
1. Don't have the mod - no go, have to have it for touring else become an orthopaedic surgeon's retirement plan.
2. Cut the screen just below the level of the arc the handle bar describes on its rotation from lock to lock - had thought of that but a) the cutting would require great skills and b) the wind would hammer even harder at the helmet. So, no go.
3. Heat treat the screen and expand its top 3 inches to give clearance to the handle bar - the tech for this complex job was available only at the manufacturer's end. So, no go.
4. Expand the screen using an inner form-fitting steel brace - again, too complex.
5. And the last and most practical option - put a bar between the to edges of the screen to expand it outwards. Bolts from outside secure the bar and hold it firm. Later, chrome the bar for weather protection.
The bar is shown in its virgin mild steel state. Once it is chromed, it would look better, I hope. And when I hang my map, GPS and fone from it, it becomes fully dual functional.
I know the looks are marred but the other options were either too invasive of too complex. And no hard feelings

If you notice, the VFR 800 is also used as a polece bike for freeway pursuits. I have not had the privilege of riding one but from its global popularity, I can deduce that the riding posture would lend itself to long hours in the saddle for effortless cruising WITH adequate romm for the occasional foot peg scraping.
My personal dream is the BMW G650 GS...

Just another thought on putting your phone or GPS on the bar, wont it put weight albeight say just about 100-150 gms on the windscreen and wont it vibrate when u are doing high speed touring??Originally posted by icemang View PostHi Binoy,

Have you checked the durability of those bars..i mean they should be stable enough or the seal should not break off in case you hit a pothole at good speed too.Originally posted by icemang View PostGuys,
I had posted a feedback about the CBR in the Tourer section some time back. A special grouse with me was the riding position in main due to the low set clip-ons.
A solution was posted as fotos of the CBR handle bar (clip-ons) mod (initial work) that I have engineered.
The final job is done and here are the fotos.
The result is much lesser loads on the fingers and wrists. The riding position has improved dramatically. A spinoff of the tension bar is that it affords a nifty place for securing a map sheet or GPS device or even a cell fone. I have sent the bar for chromium plating and will post the final pics on its arrival.
Let the touring begin!

Extension of the clip-on post may pose grave danger during aggressive riding and panic braking. The forward thrust exerted on the handle bars may undo the threading of the extensions and result in handling disasters...!!
It also alters the the riding geometry of the handlebar- rider- foot-peg ratios and angles.
Visors or Windscreens are designed in accordance to international safety standards and will crumple in case of a fall or collision. .Now with a steel bar retainer...it looks all the more dangerous and purpose defeated.

I seriously feel that your meter is optimistic. You have done 158 kmph on it which I have not heard anyone do.Originally posted by Youngking View PostIs it? I am able to do 140+ in the fifth before redlining
. Tempted by the posts here tried touching 100mph mark last to last night on nice ringroad.
It was very difficult to reach 150 when riding towards banarghatta, But with determination and hard try was able to pull out 156 on the return run. I am 70 and was with atleast 5kg weight. I guess suspension also plays a part here i was on full soft setting, while I was in full hard setting I was able to do 158. Unfortunately I lost my cybershot last sunday while riding
, When I try next time surely will post a video or pic (from my mobile cam
