I would think the new engines will need to give run for atleast 5-6k kms before shifting to synthetic, this was explained in ZMA thread by PSR.Originally posted by aargee View PostJi, so when would it be ideal to use fully synthetic? I thought we could switch to fully synthetic ASAP after 1st service isn't it so?
You're fine with mineral oil till you hit the above said on the odo. Remember, mineral oil would last 2k kms approx. and also depends on one's riding style. So If the bike is taken on long road trip, it is better to check the engine oil color. If that gets dark and opaque then it is time to change. Carry a engine oil can along is advisable.RX100 1996 | Karizma 2004 | Karizma-R 2011 | RXZ 1999 | RX 135 1998 | RX 100 1993 | CBF150 2005 - 2011

Either the rusted/faulty cone set or some dirt in the disc brake pads. Both faced by my CBR..
Someone also had such sound due to loose front number plate bolts.
As you say the sound is when you turn the steering, it may possibly be the cone set (it can be declared as a common issue now )Went to the ASC to get the sound coming from the front fixed. The serviceman lifted my front wheel and moved the handle from left to right but there wasn't any sound (as the sound comes when the front wheel is on the ground, pressure is applied and then the steering is turned to extreme left or right). So he diagnosed that it cudn't me an issue with the cone setting and didn't look at the cone set. Guys please comment if it is indeed the case.Originally posted by sudeepnbr View PostYes, most likely the issue is with the steering race cone. ... arrived yet.
He then went for a test drive n concluded that the steering is tight. He loosened the steering using and hammer (something similar was done with Srivaastav's bike if i remember correctly)
I haven't heard the same sound again after taking it to the ASC but I am not sure if it was just an issue of tight handle. If it was the case why did that sound start coming after riding the bike for 1400 km and not before?

I'll certainly do that when I get the chance to be with my CBR this weekend. I am pretty sure its that screw only, however I could be wrong.Originally posted by psr View PostThanks for the effort and the info.
Kindly post a pic of the said screw, for us to determine if it is the Idle adjust screw, since the SVC Mech themselves have clarified it's absence.
My worry is you should not end up turning any other adjustment and end up with broken or wrong setting which will ruin your otherwise good CBR
Kindly read Mr.Aargee's clarification above on this

Exactly my friend ... and the PROBLEM has started again !! and this time ... I took my bike to SKD ( Sai Kamal Doss an ex xbhp member ) .. Must say he is a genius ! test drove my bike ... spotted the problem ... and called up the ASC Cheif mechanic on behalf of me at 9 PM and explained the problem and told them change the cone set .. as its damaged !! and the ASC accepted and told that will order the part and will recieve it by monday or tuesday ... and will go thenOriginally posted by i.donn.giv.a.damnnn View PostHe then went for a test drive n concluded that the steering is tight. GUYS I must say ... I feel that SKD should be back to xbhp ... he has tremondous knowledge and am sure most of the members here are aware about him ! Hope someone invites him again and forget the differences ! The reason I say is .. he could solve most of the problems !

^^^ Last I heard was he's changing his C250R to CBR 600; Agreed, he's genius in automobile & he stands for what he said; he could simply increase C250R to 33 without touching the cylinder or ECU!!!Last edited by aargee; 08-13-2011, 02:12 AM.Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle

So does JSPOriginally posted by BladeBoy View PostDidar, T. Nagar is kinda receiving minor CBR spares!
Not sure, but, looks like HMSI has started supplying spares

K&N High Performance Air Filters, Oil Filters, & Cold Air Intakes
Next time, pls Google, it gives much more information than all of us could provide.
Go through the links & some more additional materials, I'm sure you'll be excited. But don't be in a hurry to buy, come back here with specific questions; if you're still excited after the discussion, go for it
@Neel08 - Congrats & good to see XX6 on the front wheel; not many ppl do that before buying the vehicle. I hope its too sensitive.Last edited by aargee; 08-13-2011, 02:15 AM.Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle

He said K&N! Well I am not sure either!
Well usually google'ing is the first job I do when I am clueless about something! But you know, Google is getting bigger and bigger and I end up with numerous search stringsOriginally posted by srivaatsav View PostDidar indeed has minor spares ! K & N filter ??? Thus clueless and end up in chaos usually! There are a lot more stuff I dunno about bikes :P Thus shooting the clueless'ness rocket high :P
I know its a performance upgrade! But how does it actually work
Thats where my question lies
I mean they bump up HP's ?
From the comments I read on this page -> K&N High Performance Air Filters, Oil Filters, & Cold Air Intakes
Damn some say it reduces engine noise, some say it makes his bike roar, some say it makes his bike to have a quicker pick-up! some even says it returns a greater fuel-efficiency
Dayum! See I blame google
Nope I aint gonna rush up and buy it even before knowing what it is

^^^ Whoever says K&N yields increased HP, is filtered idiot!!! It only helps to breathe the engine better & some increase in howling during intake. Look out for some bad experiences with K&N. Anyway, you don't want to loose the warranty of your vehicle right? Go for K&N or UNI, if you do

It also alters the the riding geometry of the handlebar- rider- foot-peg ratios and angles.
Visors or Windscreens are designed in accordance to international safety standards and will crumple in case of a fall or collision. .Now with a steel bar retainer...it looks all the more dangerous and purpose defeated.[/QUOTE]
You are very right there, surya, in your observations and conclusions. But there simply aren't any alternatives. The riding posture advocated by some online fora is for short trips, not 500 kms + highway riding. In fact, the tendency to commit serious errors of omission and commission is aggravated by poor posture, whether on 2 or 4 wheels. When I rode up from Pune to Rajkot on permanent posting, the level of discomfort was to be seen to be believed. You can read it in the travelogue.
I am not an aggressive rider nor do I panic easily, even under enemy fire. And with a more comfortable posture, the odds against NOT making mistakes increase.
Yes, your observation of the steel retainer bar is very correct. This is a temporary arrangement to firm up the dimensions. Once the sizes are finalised, I will get a solid rubber bar and if that is not possible, may have to cut the windscreen to just below where it fouls with the handle bars.
I do not have the financial wherewithal to go for larger sports tourers so have to make and mend with what I CAN afford
Many thanks for your concern and warnings.
Regards,
Maneesh
