2. This happens even with a ninja only during rainy season (especially at the time of intermittent showers. You get a smell as if something is burning. It seems that there is some debris sticking to engine and mud sticking to radiator. Both these parts are hot and so you get a burning smell. However, after riding for some 5-10 km, it goes away. So either the debris / mud is getting burned off / attaining same temperature of contact part.

aah...thats such a relief..thanks a lot for that information @trustvishwas. I did ride it in the rains - couldn't help it, its raining a lot lately when I get back home from office, and there's a lot of debris stuck all over, so that takes care of itOriginally posted by trustvishwas View Post1. . Also, I know its normal but not really sure what exactly is the 'tak, tak' sound coming from the engine bay after I turn off the ignition, somebody enlighten me please
.
I do see very small rust marks, near the frame weld, and also on the mirror hinge, as well as inside the petrol tank, near the nozzle
. and I'm still kinda worried about the horn, which stopped working all of a sudden.
I hope the ASS would fix all of these.

Congrats Dipesh, the bike sure is a looker in Red. However, hope I'm wrong, but are those rust marks at the mirror base and on the front number plate holder? Make sure you get those rectified and the rusted screws changed on the mirrors if thats the case. Make sure you check the frame joints, many of them have reported small rusting spots near that area specifically. Other than that, its a great bike. Wish you many more happy miles on your baby ceeber

Since I saw this in the morning, I decided to test & here're the results...Originally posted by trustvishwas View PostNothing is burning so no need to worry
1. Jaisalmer-Pokaran run about 90 odd Kms in less than 55 min - No smell
2. Pokaran-Bikaner run about 250 odd Kms in 2:45 min - No smell
3. Bikaner to somewhere about 142 odd Kms (to refuel), not sure on time - No smell
4. From the place of refuel to outskirts of Jaipur about 170 odd Kms - No smell; BUT...I when I switched off the engine, I noticed that the fan was running, so I turned ON the engine & put in idle & let the fan run. What a surprise, about 2-3 min later, when I switched OFF the engine, there's this smell

Went to the Om Sai Honda Service centre today. They have shifted and in the new location, they have a separate service bay for the CBR which had around 10 CBR lying there for servicing
I told them about the front being heavy, about vibrations as well. My handle bar was 'fixed' like most others by loosening the screw.
The vibs were not present apparently but after I took it out the vibs were actually non existent atleast till 5k 6k RPM and till 100 KMPH. Will do higher speeds and check and report
. But the screw loosening has helped gained confidence in handling by a good margin.

It's been close to 250 kms with my ceebee now.......i have to admit i'm enjoying every minute of it....since this was going to be my first geared bike, i was very nervous about it...but now those nerves are settling down...
My views:
Mileage - it returned close to 35/kmpl in the first 250 kms...
Even i feel the tank vibration at times....but it exists only at low speeds....its very rare in 4/5th gear....
Had a small incident where i ended up scratching my exhaust cover...while parking
luckily its a small one..
still keep abusing myself for d same...will get it painted during first service..
Gear shifts are so smooth....except a few times on the first day...i never had a problem shifting..
Faced the problem of false neutral quite a few times though....
And yes, cleaning the bike after a rain ride is a herculean task !!
In short i'm just enjoying my time with my ceebee and eagerly waiting for the 1k mark !!
Will try to post a more detailed report....in a hurry now..

Took my bike back from the ASC. Waiting for the parts to arrive. Till then, got rid of the right fairing as well. So now my bike is a naked CBR
. Will post pics soon.
By the way, on the last run, which included the accident and riding for over 100kms without the left fairing, I got a mileage of 31.5km/l. First time that it crossed 30km/l though I did rip it on the highway jaunt. You are not a chemical. So think before you react.

Even with ripping people have quoted about 34 to 35 in their cbr in a highway run. I get around 27 to 29 highwy riding on my Ninja itself. What fuel do you use?Originally posted by dreamseller View PostTook my bike back from the ASC. Waiting for the parts to arrive. Till then, got rid of the right fairing as well. Done 7.5K. After the ride to Leh, the engine has opened up completely and is a treat to rip. At 90 kgs, I managed to touch 152 kmph today, and there was still juice left for more..." I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not" - Kurt Cobain

Even I get burning smell at times, but I used to get it even from my unicorn, so I dont think its an issue.Originally posted by aargee View PostQuite an interesting piece of information!!! Does that mean, we can have only about 2 lts for the injector to be submerged
This also means...more RANGE???
Hmmm..I agree with you on that. And I have a very strong feeling the bike would have run another 20Kms easily without refilling any fuel.
I remember at the time of taking the delivery of the bike, sales guy told me there is already 2lts of petrol inside with the indicator blinking. So he filled another 2lts of petrol and the fuel indicator was still blinking. I insist on filling another ltr and it finally stopped blinking. So it means it takes 5lts of petrol for the indicator to stop blinking, that is really alot!!!
Me!!! For over months now!!! But I get it more from the exhaust & not engine area; I think the culprit is the catcon, not sure though. I'm not sure if anyone else is observing this. It happens mostly when ridden like short bursts, sudden acceleration, though I can't confirm it completely. But yes, there's a pungent smell. I hope it isn't serious!!!Last edited by rmchhetri; 09-10-2011, 11:45 PM.

^^^ Then the question arises as what is the minimum amount of fuel that can be left in the tank without causing damages to pump or the FI? Is it 2 lts? So when the blinker starts, does it mean that there's another 3 lts that can be used? Assuming a FE of 33 Kmpl for 80 Kmph ride, so does one have about 100 Kms range still?Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle

Loss in top end
Does anyone else have an issue of the bike not revving past 8.5k rpm in the 6th gear? I can touch 143 kmph at 10.5k rpm in 5th gear, but the moment i shift to the 6th, the rpm suddenly falls to 8.5k and will not budge from there, almost as if it has been cut off(which might actually be true.) As a result the top speed falls to 141 when compared to 143. How is it that the bike achieves the top speed in 1 gear less than the highest??
After i shift to 6th, the bike will just not revv past that cut off however long/inclined the stretch might be. Is this something i should be concerned about? or
So asking here if this is an isolated incident?

I did some short bursts on the nearby highway and when I stopped there was the same burning smell near the exhaust area.
