  • CBR performance within the city

    Hi There,

I am new to this forum and site and this happens to be my first post, so sorry, if this is the incorrect forum. I intend to buy the CBR 250R in Bangalore on the 10th of November. The Red Standard one. I currently have a RE 350 Machismo(1998) which I have been using for about 12 years and is now on its way to another owner. I was not very happy with the performance of the bike atleast in city traffic, although it was great for out of city rides.

    1. My question is everyone has mentioned a lot about the top speeds and how well the bike performs at higher RPMS's especially on long distance rides. I wanted to know what is the performance of the bike within the city when we are riding at speeds of just about 40-60 kmph on a day to day basis? Is it a pain with constant gear shifting? If any of the RE riders who have switched to a CBR also share their experience I would be grateful.

    2. Secondly, what is your experience with the bike during the rains, within the City? With no proper mud guards does it throw a lot of dirt on the rider?

    3. I am a little concerned about the side stand only option.? Especially parking this bike in public places. What is your experience with this? IS the bike pretty stable on the side stand?

Any advice would be of great help!

I would have more questions for all you experienced riders, moving from a RE to a CBR is going to be an interesting experience, but looking forward to it.

    Cheers,
    Sun

      • ^^ @allforbikers
mate iv been using my bike for abt 600 kms and from my experience as far as the rain is concerned its holding good for me,but yes mud and slush will get in and stick to ur radiator but regular cleaning will do the trick, plus the chain u will have to lub every now and then in the rains or else u will find a orange color change...apart from tht the side stand is good i mean iv used in public places no issues.ya...then to be frank u will have to make cleaning ur bike a habit,i do it b4 i go to sleep,+ the radiator i clean tht too with a tooth brush. in the traffic i think it takes little getting used too, im a novice i found it hard in the beginning riding in the traffic but now im fine.and the bike is gr8 for long rides, shes meant for tht...........thn nothing much....buddy ABS is gr8 its WORTH THE 30k coz it has worked for me in the rain....i dont know if u all will agree with me but it has been gr8 for me.and soo far no issues.just waiting to do my first service.. and all the best with ur bike.

Screw your courage to the sticking place.

Totally agree with you on this. It scares me to even post anything here coz im sure it would spark off an OT discussion... thanks to few guys who just keep contradicting and act/behave/speak like they (he) are/is the one who made/built /designed the CBR

Seriously a lot of bul**** is goin on, every single post is treated like an argument, more or less like an investigation, which when controlled to the bike is good but i dont see this happen...

There are so many new guys who have got the CBR but hardly post im sure coz of the fear of getting put up against the wall for some serious bullcrap.

We need to learn a lot from the Ninja250r Thread

Never the less... Let the mods decide... xPolice... delete this post if you think its unnecessary.. Looks like i got some work for you now

P.S. Im expecting a crowd at me now This is just my opinion and its a free forum

If you had gone through the thread Carefully then you will note that a few did have serious problems with the initial CBRs. So obviously they will post about their bad experience while the recent owners who have an improved CBRs will question the same....
All said and done lack of availability of spares plague CBR and most other bikes too Including Ninja..
So long as the post is positive and and up front there will not be any problem here or elsewhere..so continue to post and share..

I have been following the thread since day1 silently. I know there is a lot of knowledge and other stuff discussed here! However, if you notice, in recent times there is a lot of OT going on.Unnecessary debates and discussions which stray out other queries and conversation and make the thread un-readable (If that's even a word ) And about spares, well, i have nothing to say on that. Even Bajaj pulsar, R15 and Fz16 which sold in huge numbers have faced and still face this problems. That is simply inevitable . It will settle down soon

P.S. spoke to the CBR super-tec today and he confirmed that all spares will be available from November-15, well at least in the South zone it will be

                • Thanks Strikepackage.

When you say a little difficult driving in the city initially, could you share your experience? What exactly is the difficult part. I heard in other bikes, generally, gear changing is not that often, but if I am not wrong, in some of the previous posts, I think I did read that the engine just stalls sometimes when you ride it at lower RPM's in a higher gear etc, which makes sense, but just wanted to check how much of a pain that can be especially in the bumper to bumper traffic. Since my car is sold and I don't plan on picking up one for sometime, this would be my primary vehicle for most purposes including day to day commuting and not just for long touring. So was looking for some feedback on that since within city the average speed is about 40 - 50 at the most.

                  Thanks

                    Hi,

I am from bangalore and CBR is my primary mode of transportation.
I ride in the bumper to bumper traffic of HSR- Bellandur stretch.
Most of the time i would be riding in 1st gear only (as there is not enough distance to shift to second gear) and the constant use of clutch at times will give you little pain in wrist but those are all initial set in issues.
After you are used to it you dont feel much difference. But yes I need to work my gears a little more than my freinds but less than R15s.
If you like to climb atop footpaths and squeeze in any place possible on road, then Personally i feel this is not the bike for you. But if you prefer lane riding and not so much zig zag the bike will keep you happy for most of the part.
You can do as much zig zag as you want but being a little heavy (171KG and i guess thats heavier than your RE) and a little bulky means that other 150s can do better when it comes to zig zagging in bumper to bumper. But as soon as you hit the 36 hair pin bend of ooty no one will be able to catch you. You can easily scrape your knee guard when taking turns.
Ill suggest you go to Haiku honda (domlur) as they have a red standard test vehicle and take a test ride towards marthalli or any crowded road, you will get the feel first hand.
Even the bike has a million issues still most of us are happy n proud owners.
                    Rest is your choice.

                    Regards
                    Piyush

                      • Take this seriously

                        Hi Guys,

I am taking leave from office tomorrow and moving to consumer court. I would drag the eastern sales officer and engineer, the dealer, SVC manager, the mechanic as well. I would let them answer why HONDA has been cheating Indian customers with its low class indigenous products? I am sure the scene must not be same outside India. Getting a bike at 1.85 lakhs and feeling like riding a splendor is something that cannot be abrogated as a matter of reason.

You may ask why I am counting the mechanic into the list, because he should not have opened and reinstalled my rear tire unless he was sure of the skills.

So, guys if any of you want, can provide their facts if you have been troubled recently due to Honda. I would enlist the same with my official complaint and it would surely serve in the form of impact.

I am ready to spend as much I can in the court to teach Honda a lesson this time. Enough of the games in twilight.

                        • Tragedy struck me

                          Hi all
I guess now it was my time to deal with Honda part availability problem.

Today had parked my bike in one of my clients building (very securely I thought). But when I return to get my bike I found out that the oil cap with the dip rod was missing from my bike. I dont know who the hell & why would anybody do this to others bike. To add to this, this bugger left a scratch on my bike.

I have been very particular about my bike. Usually I dont keep my bike unattended or I tip somebody around to keep a watch on my bike. But today there was nobody around & I had no option but to park her unattended.

Luckily venetian honda workshop was not too far off, so thought of taking her there. But as soon as I started her, loads of air started flowing along with little oil through the open space, so immediately stuffed in a cloth hoping it to hold on till I reach the workshop.

I reached the workshop without any hassles, but the fate had something else for me. The workshop guys said they dont have this part. I should had already guessed so (but was hoping for the best).

Now I had to put up a cap on it anyhow so asked them to put any other bikes oil cap, but none were a direct fit. After trying every bikes cap they decided to cut a bit of the dip rod of uncorn's oil cap & then try it on cbr. Thankfully it worked this time.

Now the real thing, can anybody tell me where can I get the original cbr's oil cap in mumbai? If anybody has an idea please let me know cause I can't digest the fact that my bike has something which is not original.

P.S. Learnt a lesson hard way never to leave the bike alone & unattended & sorry for the long post.

                          • @pravu: I do not know much about the CBR, but from personal experience in Indian Courts, I can guarantee you that this is not going to get you immediate results. Be prepared for atleast 2 years of regular visits to Courts, around 5K p.m. expense on lawyers&the frustration comes uninvited.
If there is a more amicable way to resolve this, I suggest you try your best to get what you want through that.

Great lesson , Only take her out where you sure about protected parking available.

About dip rod = dip stick right ?

One confusion , CBR got only the the OIL Cap, not stick/extension attached to it. Right ?
                                ------------------------------------------
Today during the commute, my Fuel gauge got stuck at 3 bars after almost 65-70km riding and there was two miss fire from the exhaust. Immediately I pulled over and shutdown the bike for 5 min, once I get back 2 bar gone....then everything was fine.

                                P.S:-
Total misfire till now 3. Is this a symptom of engine problem ? Last week I rode the bike for 160 odd km avg speed 110-120Km/h and max 135Km/h touched for a minute.
