First of all, welcome to xbhp!
Secondly, even the Hayabusa gets ABS only in the 2013 model. It was plain-jane till now. Is it a bad bike? Or does it lock wheels all the time? NO!!!

But, its always nice to have some sort of tech to help you. You need not skid/lock at high speeds.... Most of the skidding and locking happens in 30s and 40s... ABS can be a life-saver. Your friends are right.
              Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

ABS is not a must(Although great,if budget permits),if you have budget get 250r,don't even think about 150,cause compared to 150,250r is such an awesome machine.Mileage don't expect 40s.

I am CBR150R. I can accomodate you and your wife very well, but later some point of time, when you have a kid, i may not be helpful. I can do very well in all other departments like handling, mileage (40 - 45 sure), touring, sport etc. Also mind that I was portraited as not so value for money bike by many bikers. May be true to some extent. Because if you see CBR250R and me have 35k difference. Decision is yours. Why shouldn't you try my friends and elders like Avenger, P180, P220, TBTS ?. Give a thought. THank you"

                        • Even I get an average of 40 kmpl on Highways and 33 to 35 kmpl in city traffic of Lucknow from my cbr250R Std.
If your budget permits then go for ABS.

Hi , i have had a CBR 250R Std for almost 6 months and have covered more than 8000 kms on it .

                            * In traffic and city i get around and 30 - 32 kmpl and on long trips have easily got 38 kmpl which involved riding mostly @ 85 + and a couple of 140 + runins .
                            * The bike is excellent for long distance touring ..the headlight is pretty decent for night driving ,, the torque and power is good for high speed cruising stress free.
                            * The bike feels planted even around the 140 region.

                            a few hassles

                            * The Contigo tyres need careful driving on wet surface .. else they do just fine.(now I hate rains )
                            * I personally have to deal with shims issue (still pending ) but then now i dont feel it to be a very big problem .

coming to which one to buy ... I would choose the 250 with out a doubt .

to get performance from a 150R would need effort from your side .. but the 250R will serve it to you on a silver plate.
every time I twist the throttle on my bike ... it sure brings a big grin to my face .

If the option is between 150 & 250, I would suggest you 250. Please go throught the reasons. Haven't ridden 150 but have got reviews from the owners so there mey be some difference. I own a CBR250R, upgraded from ZMA. 250 has quite a punch between 5k - 7k RPMs, a boon while handling traffic, fuel average depends on your usage. I get 32-35kmpl with a mixed city-highway use and variable speeds as low as 50kmph and as high as 130kmph, ABS - yes its a good option if you can afford those extra 30k. Recently, I had a fall due to wheel locking in my std at around 30-35kmph. That is where I felt the need for ABS. Whereas 150 is launshed as track bike targetting R15. So it should have the power at higher revs may be over 7000RPMs which will cause some problem in city riding. Obviuosly since the fe is better than 250 owing to lesser power. But then after sometime you will feel the hunger for more power with 150. 250 can easily cruise at 120 - 130 kmph without sweating which I guess wouyld not be possible on 150. So the decision is yours. Go for a test ride and do it atleast for 8 - 10kms using all the rev range. You will surely find the difference and will be easy for you to take a decision.

                              • Just to add what Sid85 has said...

For touring, the 250R is an amazing bike in its class... I have done over 10000 while touring and trust me, enjoyed every single inch I rode... It has got the power to cruise at higher speed and also the comfort at low speeds... the engine and other system supports your every action and yes even after 1.5 yrs of its launch, its still a head turner...
On the other hand 150 is a power packed bike but its torque is a lil low so you wont enjoy that acceleration. Last sunday only some CBR riders met and there was this young boy who bought 150... we tested his bike and he tested a 250R and he was regreting his purchase...

Also if you are interested in touring then please go for ABS... those extra 30K will boost your confidence while riding even in the worst riding conditions... Plus it saves one from most of the incidence... I had an accident at 130KPH where I had to crash into the side railing while saving a moron on the road on expressway... Thanks to the ABS, the bike was stand still without any slide and slips...

Rest I would say a feature added is always handy rather than not having and regretting it some day...
