Madras Rubber Factory still makes rocking tyres. Glad that the replacements will be better than contis.

Hi All, Wonderful to see such a vibrant biker community here.

After almost 2 months of research, I have decided to go for CBR 250R. I have my own requirements and CBR fits my bill just right. Other bikes considered were N300 and D390.

In 2001, while I was in Japan, I had owned honda CB400 for almost 2 years. I used to ride this bike to work in Tokyo - mostly on dry days. CB400 was a wonderful naked bike and I really enjoyed the rides. Did very little touring on weekends. Stopped riding bikes after I got married and switched to cars (owned a wonderful subaru for almost 10 years in Japan and that's a different story:-)). Just got back to India.

Now I'm 40 years old and still got that biker in my heart. Good news is that I will be based in a location that allows to commute 20-30 kms/day - very little traffic and clear air.

Specific question to CBR experts. Should i insist on MRF tyres before I make the booking? If so, why is MRF better than Contigo?

      Cheers.

I don't know about contigo, not ridden it but MRFs are simply brilliant, just 400 km done and handling like a pro already.

Lucky you.. .. I have been waiting a week. He promised to find on ASAP and let me know. Its just that I dont want to jump the gun and buy the one with Contis and repent later. Have had horrible experience with Y..U..NO..Grips(EUROGRIP) on my pulsar,, dont want the same again.

Yes, do go for mrf's. They offer better grip in both dry and wet conditions. I haven't ridden the mrf shod cbr's but I have ridden the R15 v2 which comes with the same tyre and they offer way more grip than the contigo, specially in wet conditions.

The mrf would last less but would inspire confidence unlike the contigo. Mrf's would also make the bike feel a little more nimble in comparison because, they have a rounder profile, would help you lean the bike easily in corners and when in a lean corrections would be easier.

The tyres are good. I haven't done a fair comparison with Contigos but god these are GOOD! Will do a complete review after I get a chance to test these on "ghats".

Check with showrooms, both big and small, one of them are likely to have them. With a little push you can get your favourite showroom to source it for you and and install it on your bike before delivery.

Haha....thanks man! So this is with no extra monies to be paid for opting for the MRFs right? These Honda chaps seem to siphon a lot of money under the guise of 'accessories' :/

Must say that the new paint job makes it look like a completely different steed.

Can anyone tell me for what all would I need to shell out for in the form of accessories if I get the cbr?

Standard accessories - saree guard, number plates, seat cover, handle bar grips.

Handle bar grips, seriously? Are you talking about grip covers? What if I don't want the saree guard and seat cover?
Only number plates would be good for me.

I got an option to choose what I need. You can pick whatever you want from the list of accessories they have.

You don't have to pay a rupee extra. These are from an OEM.

Since the colour/tyre combo was random at the time when I booked, my bike initially had contigos. I got the tyres swapped from a Repsol model which had arrived with MRFs in another showroom.

Earlier I had posted that Dream Honda received a note from Honda that MRFs will be standard, but seems to be not true as I still don't see many MRFs around. Maybe yet another marketing gimmick.
