Hi to all the confused creatures like me who are yet to know the performance of the Yam R15 V2...

The R15 has been tested and its true that the bike has indeed gained with all the ECU work done by Yam..

The true top speed of the bike is 131!!! and on the speedo it is 141!!

I have got 147 top end on my 1 year old R15 and 143 on GPS on Pune - Lonavala stretch.

It is on an average 4-5 kms faster in the top speed than the previous version, so Yam have been correct in claiming that the bike has faster top speed than V1.

I would agree to your point but i feel the V2 is not that free to manoveur or handle like the V1 and i have personally experienced it, may be on straight line riding your point can be right.

The accleration is same as V1 till 110!! with no major difference... the bike can do a 0-60 in 4.9 secs and 0-100 in 14 secs...

The most important part is that the bike is more luggable and doesnt struggle at the low revs like the old one..

The old one or new one has same bhp overall, the only difference is in the new one you get power from low rpms like 3000 and you dont get the adreline rush which happens with the V1 once you hit the sweet spot on 6000 rpm till 10500 and than you see her and all other bikes in your RVM except the ninja.

I test drove the bike and with me (Im 6ft 2in and 95kgs) and a pillion (show room guy) I could move without any difficulty on a speed breaker at 13kms on the meter in 3rd gear!!!! unbeleivable..

I tried the same thing on CBR and we were at 20 on the meter and was in 3rd gear and the rpm in 2.5K.. the bike struggled so much and was lively only above 3K rpm...

so I can conclude the bike has more luggability in lower rpm (below 3K) than CBR, so useful for city driving..

For all the tall riders, I was at my limit with my knees on the R15's tank knee recesses... It is manageable and can be ridden by tall guys like us...
Offcourse the CBR has much more space and is easy for tall guys...

the kick or the rush that comes in from 3K rpm in CBR is a treat though... probably unmatched by the Indian biking scene at this moment...

It seems you have not redlined in all first 3 gears of the old or new R15 and if you get a chance do it and please dont do on your new R15, take a V1 or a v2 which has completed two services.

The test drives are just my perception and some might disagree but the acceleration and top speeds are GPRS tested by the top mags and are genuine...

    time to rejoice then!!
Hope your confusions are clear now.

      • I'm stuck with a number plate holder!
Can somebody help me with this issue?
I need to remove the number plate holder of my V2 to affix number decal on the visor. But if I remove the holder the mirrors become loose. So i tried double sided tape as well as got V1's rubber bush to replace the iron holder. But it couldn't replace the holder and in the process my left mirror is not bolted tightly and it vibrates. Now what can I do to get rid of this piece of iron?
Is there any owner who successfully got rid of their v2's front plate holder who could help me with a solution?

        • hey bro, mine didnt come with a front number plate so no idea about it. Why dont you ask the workshop people at the dealers place to remove it.

          • Ideas

I'm going to go to the dealers place to remove the saree guard and the rear view mirrors. I'm having second thoughts on the rear view mirrors since its useful in the traffic to see who is coming from behind, but they are a pain as well specially when you want to squeeze yourself between vehicles to overtake/change lanes. Any ideas?

            • At any kind of posture the RVMs are perhaps just a couple of inches or so outside your elbow levels. RVMs are ABSOLUTE necessisty and shouldnt be tampered with.

Certainly my point. I don't want to remove the rvm's instead I want to tighten them to their proper fit after removing the front plate.

                • Any way to trim the couple of inches? any particular adjustments? I would definitely like to keep them, but they tend to bug me when i'm squeezing between vehicles.

If its a one-off thing its ok..though it was quite early..I did touch 80 once but only after 500kms...As per owner's manual, be under 5k rpm for first 1000 km but its always better to be upto 3.5k for first 500km and upto 4k and occasional touches to 5k for next 500km...Try driving in all the gears considerably as well...
Yesterday only I met a person wid V2, he hasnt followed running-in properly, he got shocked to know that I get a mileage of 45+ while he gets 30. Though mileage is not the only sign but nevertheless its the only visible sign as of now...So control your right wrist, its just a matter of 1000kms, follow running-in properly and reap its benefits all throughout the engine life...

                          • Run In Period

                            See the photo attached

Like I said before 5000 rpm under till 500 kms and 7500 rpm till 1000 kms. Of course you can ride it above the rpm as well, but not for a long period of time. Now whats that long period is not sepecified, so I'm guessing 1 to 2 mins

                              Folks..
i agree to what you all and the manual say for break-in.

BUT.. Maybe bike manufacturers are being super cautious at the expense of your motor's performance? I think that they take the cautious route that works over time (1000 miles, or about 20 hours of break in) versus a faster route that can be more easily screwed up."

Can all you expereinced guys out there please provide your feedback for the below article ??

                              • New wheels...

                                Hi!

Short version- Got my Blue/black YZF R-15 v2 delivered today...

                                And now, the Long version...

WHY- My first vehicle was Honda Dio, bought in 2002 during my 11th Grade. Its still very much alive and active. The best scooter out there. And always puts a smile on my face when i take it for a spin. But for so many reasons, in all these years i was always denied to get an upgrade. Three years back when R-15 v1 was launched, i was still a student and a dependent on my parents support to buy one. And even when they did, they got me an i10 for final year college... Now after two years of owning an i10, it has made me realize, i aint meant for 4 wheelers. And so the decision to get a bike.

WHAT- This is short. I like R-15. Respect its engineering brilliance. And i ride really HARD...

                                WHERE-
(This can be very useful to prospective R-15 buyers in chennai city). I started hunting for the ideal dealer for me. And then i came to know that a dear friend of mine was family friends with the owner of JAIN MOTO BIKES. Now everybody would say thats a great thing, and so did i. So after some intro and phone calls, i ended up paying my booking amount and was told a waiting period of 2 weeks. This was on 28th November. The following days, the sheer frustration and disappointment caused by JAINS MOTO BIKE, especially with their arrogance and attitude made me feel so sick and disgusted for booking my bike with JAINS, even though i had proper contacts. But i can blame no one other than the bloody manager @ JAINS. That SOB was manipulating me into paying the full cash, saying the bike has been recieved in the yard, and i can take delivery on 2nd december, when actually they never got any such stock. It was then and where i decided, i should stay away from such ppl in business.

And then again the hunt began for the proper dealership last Saturday. Almost every dealership didnt have the qualification or decent customer friendly attitude to run a bike showroom. It did put me off so much so that i even was ready to give up on YAMAHA. Yes! I need satisfaction too. Not just the bike. If they dont know how to treat you, they sure will not know how to treat your bike.

Then today, the last showroom i had to visit, SRI MOTORS near kasi theatre. Having faded all hopes over finding a proper YAMAHA dealership in chennai, i was really glad i visited them. "A class" customer friendly and customer oriented service. Definitely recommend them.

THE BIKE- I was already fixed on buying the blue colour. Walked into the showroom, introduced myself and told them that i was interested for a Blue R-15 and full cash settlement. To my surprise, the sales person said that they have one, that arrived in their recent lot, not been booked so far, for instant delivery! So, asked for a PDI. Was duly allowed to, and i did a complete PDI. Then proceeded to the necessary paper works. Paid cash. Was handed over the bike in perfect manner as how a dealer should do.! HAPPY CUSTOMER...! HAPPY DEALER...!

Couldnt register it though, and tomorrow being a National holiday, i decided to bring the bike home unregistered. Didnt feel like leaving it behind in that godown when i made all cash payments, which means i am responsible for whatever that may happen, and i cant deal with that. I am in no possible situation to ride my bike beyond 50km on the odo till i get my registration done. Which will happen by wednesday.

As of now, I am a happy man, and gonna enjoy every mile on this Legend of a bike..! Pics tomo...
