Do not attach your helmet to the pillion seat... Its very easy to cut the strap of helmet and steal your helmet. Its not designed for India

There is a metallic ring in one of the straps. Hook up this ring with the attachment provided on the seat. siddharthsure, with the helmet locked the way I told, there is hardly any movement and it is next to impossible to cut through the strap

This is the ring

On an another note , I'm curious about this certain whooshing sound, almost like turbo whistle that R15s make. It starts at around 4500 RPM, is most prominent at 5000 RPM and disappears at 6000 RPM. Would anybody be so kind as to explain this?

Don't know about R15 manual but CBR manual strongly suggest that you should not use Helmet holder while the bike is moving. You can use it when the Bike is parked. But as Sidhharth said your Helmet can be easily stolen.

My Studds Scorpion doesn't have any metallic ring or may be I didn't notice it before. Anyways thank you so much for your input and it really helps a lot.

yes, R15 manual does strongly suggests not to attach the helmet on the helmet holder while the bike is in motion and so do other manufactures.

Turbo whistle?? Never heard or noticed it. Can you please give some more details? Like the origin of the sound or where you're guessing it's coming from??

It comes down from the engine, most prominently between 4500-5500 RPM. Hold the revs at 5000 RPM in any gear, you will notice it in the background for sure. You won't hear it when the bike is in neutral gear or when you accelerate while pulling in the clutch though. My bike is more than 2 years old and makes this noise since then .

when the bike is in motion the helmet needs to be attached to the head and not the helmet holder or whatever.

I guess OP was asking for an extra helmet carry. Anyways these machines are not for carrying anything. If someone want to carry some goods / helmets buy a scooter.

I was not asking for an extra helmet carry. I just wanted to leave the helmet attached with the bike when it is parked outside. we just can't carry our helmets with ourselves
everywhere we go.

Carry the helmet with you or put the helmet at risk of getting stolen. Its as simple as that !

Ride safe and have fun.

Okay, I'll try not to leave the helmet with the bike as much as possible.

Seriously??? You guys treat your helmets so causally??? How many of you know how your helmets work to protect you in case of a crash? The outer shell does not protect you from impacts. It's main function is to prevent any hard object from penetrating through the helmet. The actual protection from impact is obtain through a EPS liner (more popularly known as Thermocole out here) which absorbs the impact energy by compressing and deforming.

As most people who have handled Thermocole know its a soft and brittle material. Leaving your helmet unattended is asking for trouble. It just requires someone to come along and knock your helmet around and the Thermocole liner can be damaged, leaving your helmet in a less than ideal condition to protect your head in the event of a crash.

I also see a lot people riding their bike with their helmets either hanging at the rear or put on the handle bar. Well, you may as well throw that helmet in the trash can, there is absolutely no way a helmet that has been abused in such a manner will protect you.

What you say is spot on. In fact I treat my helmet like an egg. But sometimes, lets say during college hours, we don't have any option other than to hook it up with the bike. Or else the helmet needs to be carried along throughout the college lecture hours and practical sessions much to the amusement of everyone. It becomes inconvenient too. Ask me, I have carried my helmet around everywhere in college until I came to know about the correct method of hooking it up on the bike.
What we can do is to park the motorcycle in a secluded place when the helmet is with it

i carry my helmet around if i have to because i dont want it to get stolen if i keep it hanging with my bike..plus, it's a nice looking (thus attracts people's attentions (hence more probability of someone nicking it for himself if he sees it hanging on a bike unsupervised), even a damn helmet attracts people enough to ask me its cost and where i got it in the middle of a crawling traffic every once in a while lol) robust and costly HJC, really dont wanna lose it

meanwhile in colombia, yamaha is advertising its #99 movistar yamaha edition R15 v2, which btw gets exported to there from india so why the hell has yamaha not shown the indians their movistar yamaha edition R15v2 ? https://www.facebook.com/yamahamotog...150263/?type=1
