  • Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0

Been reading this thread from page one till the last post from the past one and a half months and I am happy about the fact that R15 2.0 was compared with the bikes of the bigger class most of the time than any other mere 150 cc bike. Although I have already posted some noob questions in this thread, I have never posted an introduction of myself and the bike. I guess it is better to be late than never, so here I am posting an ownership experience of my bike.

R15 2.0 was my dream bike, I never wondered which bike to buy nor did I shortlisted few bikes and selected R15 2.0 from those. One look of the R15 2.0 from a popular magazine and that was it, I was blown away. It was love at first sight and till now there is not a continuous stretch of 10 minutes in my life without wondering about my bike once. I call my bike as 'MAXY' and there is a reason for it. Initially I wanna call my bike as 'MACK', you know the Mach3, speed of sound, Ultrasonic sound and stuffs like that. Then later I had a feeling that my bike was feminine(here I'm not offending the bike, some might find the bike to be manly. Anyhow just our thoughts ),then calling her 'MACK' won't be appropriate, so I began to call her 'MAXY' as days passed by And here is a pic of MAXY..

Not being to able to own ones dream bike is a grief, but being able to own it and not able to ride it is even worse. I ride my bike only on alternate weekends when I'm at my hometown and as a result it's been five months of owning the bike and its only 1200 km on the odometer. Am I harming the engine in anyway by not riding the bike
often?? AFAIK I had a proper run-in as per the manual, engine oil was not changed in -between services , First service was done at 800 km and the second
was done at about 1140 km or 1150 km as I'm not sure about it. And Thank you so much for reading my post as its a tad long, I tried to shorten my post as much as i can but my love for R15 2.0 just seems to be endless.

Hii..i think my bike is losing acceleration... the engine takes a lot of time to rev up and makes a rough and loud noise.. there is a lot of vibration around the tank and handle bars. i am losing interest in riding because of this. this is the first time in two years. odo reads 23k, i have used motul 300v for past 10k kms. there was a problem with tappet adjustment about 4 months ago, it happened during service and the mechanic fixed it. since then bike isn't the same. mileage suddenly dropped from 45 to 34kmpl i hav done all services in authorized service station, all periodic maintenance is done. i ride mostly on highways with speeds around 120km/hr. i rip my bike a lot.. this summarizes everything. can someone tel what is wrong? has anyone had a similar problem?

Check out page no.70 and 72 in this thread. A senior member had posted a DIY for camera and gps mounts, maybe you can also do it in such a way that it holds your Iphone. I think it won't cost you above 500 bucks and AFAIK his model would affect crouching on your bike since it will be mounted on the bike's fuel tank.

SVC here, in fact oblivious to the fact that there's something known as valve clearance. I have done 21,000 km but have neither checked clearance nor adjusted it. I have heard from some experienced souls that they have done the clearance only once in about 70,000 km

In the mean time, R15 is being launched in Vietnam and Thailand too. Their versions look different from what we have. Mechanical details haven't been out yet. The stickers like rear Aluminium arm and diasil doesn't look good . But I like that black colored one and the rear seat cover. And the key shutter lock looks cool. The bike comes with IRC tyres too.

Majority of the R15's seen in Vietnam are transformed Yamaha Vixion's(FZ150i). They buy R15 parts from India and put it on the Vixion as the Chassis is identical (Deltabox).

Guys is it possible to soften the R15 rear suspension?? Bcz today i asked SVC to grease swing arm. They removed the U shaped thing ( preload adjustment i guess ) and spring and greased.. Now i feel the suspension bit softer... Is it possible or psychological ?? They didnt do anything other than this.. I was nearby and they fitted everything perfectly..

PS: i dont want the suspension to be soft..

oh, yeah could be that...if at all there's any obvious visible visual difference between the real R15v2 and the vixion modified one, i didnt/couldn't see anything as i saw both of them being ridden away a bit fast through traffic...one was of (or very similar to) 2012 midnight black colour scheme and another was (or very similar to) 2012 sunset red scheme..either way, looked purely v2...so if those were indeed vixion modified ones, the modifier did a hell of a job in at least making sure it looked very much a real v2 from outside.

i was under the impression that it was only indonesia and malaysia that had most of the vixion modified R15s present on the roads there, because vixion was/is primarily for those 2 countries.

also saw a bunch of CBR 150Rs in hanoi, vietnam...at least 6-7 of them.

Thanks... And how to check throttle free play?? Should i twist the throttle front and back ( i mean without pulling the cable ) or measure just from its original position to the point where cable starts to pull??

Its been close to 5 months since I got my R15. I got the 4th free service done recently and here is the update on my ownership.

                                Odo - 9.3 k
                                Average FE - 35-40(City), 40-45(Highway)
Maintenance - There was an issue with the front brake light switch and replaced it. Replaced Oil filter as well.

Switched to Motul 300 V Fully Synthetic and the change was evident instantly. The bike's running a lot smoother at high revs. I will be using the same oil from now on. On the whole, its been a very pleasant and hassle free experience. Looking forward to put on many more kms.
