i remember many months ago when my bike was brand new some people here were talking about this same thing and some people said the reserve actually seems to hit at somewhere in the 3-4L range..at the time i was in disbelief because i really couldnt accept not believing the manual :P...of course, it makes sense that yamaha would say a lower number to make people be more careful about refilling as soon as F hits up, but still it's not trivial a fact to accept at once that they'd say 1.9 and actually keep it at nearly double of that :P

i really hope it's actually indeed somewhere near 3.5 or so, in which case my mileage has been fine...i dont care too much about mileage with this kind of a machine of course but nonetheless a really low mileage (which would be the case if it's indeed 1.9 or 2 L at the reserve) means something's screwed up inside and that certainly bothers me and that certainly is something i'd be a concerned about seriously..
Even I had similar observation. I had parked by bike in the night with console showing F, and in morning there are two bars. But after riding for about 10kms the F sign reappeared again. I am not sure about the accuracy of fuel gauge. I had even done 70-75 Kms once during crisis with bike in reserve. Even after that there was still enough fuel in tank.

@napster89 - i did another measurement a couple of days ago, now i am 100% sure the actual limit of reserve is somewhere between 3.5-3.8 litres in the tank which is nearly twice the manual mentioned value of 1.9 L...which makes me very glad about it actually...
@Ezilkannan - man 9300 kms in just 5 months ? that's a shit load of kms per day..you go for casual spirited rides a lot for long long distances very often or you gotta commute work-to-home/etc a lot of distance everyday ? at this rate in just over a year of your bike you'll have done nearly 30k kms and in only 3.5 years of the bike it will hit the big 100000 kms :P

If you remember the bike sits on side stand while parked. And when you ride its again straight.

Well, that's good in some way. Running the tank dry can cause serious problems to fuel pump..

Ya, that's true. But when I mount the bike and start it, it's always straight and it's too much to display correct numbers after 8-10 kms.

Thats because of time taken to sense the real amount of fuel. If the reading changes instantly you will feel it more inaccurate as it will change with each speed bump.

I am not saying to display real time readings, but time taken to warm up the engine should be enough to sense the actual amount.

Yup, similar experience here. The R15 fuel gauge actually, is pretty pessimistic. Once I tanked her up when the meter was reading F , around 9 litres of fuel went in at that point

You should ride 5km(iirc) after filling for the F to reset...
And i dunno why you people are complaining about R15 fuel gauge. You need to understand how it works... After you know that, its very accurate. For Eg: putting the bike on side stand will increase 1 or 2 bars. This will go off once you ride for 500mtrs.
Once F pops in meter, it wont go until you refill ( even when u put in side stand, bars may increase but F will be shown)

I didn't say it was not accurate. In fact, I have observed that 1 bar~ 2 liters of fuel. When 1 liter fuel is consumed, a fuel bar vanishes but comes on again soon and this continues till another liter is emptied

                      Hello to all fellow Bikers,

I have a question for bangalore guys.
I have recently shifted to bangalore from pune and am an owner of r15v2.
I would like to know the best service centers to get the bike serviced in bangalore.
                      I stay in brookefield bangalore.

                      Thanks in advance

My daily commute to college is just 38kms(up and down). So much of this 9.3k was from extensive touring . Not sure whether I will put on the kms at the same rate(no holidays this semester ) But I will hit somewhere around 15-18k in a year for sure.
As for the 1L mark, it will take around 4-5 years from now I guess. And I hope I will still use it even then. Its still a long way to go for my next upgrade.

Whoa !!! 9.3 k in only 5 months. That's nice I had covered only 6.5k in the first 5 months at B'lore. And then I moved to Pune and I've done roughly around 16k in the last 1 year. And R15 will surely be there for you even after 100k and happily. Best of luck

Go to Bangalore Wheels. It will be far from Brookefield but trust me the SVCs near Brookefield are not good at all. There are two nearby, Sprint and Panache. And me and my friend really had very bad experiences of them. I bought my bike from Sprint, besides Phoenix Mall, and did the first 3 services over there. But after moving to Pune, when I gave my bike to Yamaha Factory Shop for bike service, I can easily distinguish between the services. So better avoid Panache and Sprint.

Tappet clearance should be more or equal of .2 mm. Anything less of that and the engine will suffocate. Symptoms you'll face are engine struggling at idle RPM or even shutting down, loss of acceleration, less throttle response. Most SVC guys don't get the tappet clearance correct. So be sure you're checking with a good mechanic.

Remember tappet clearance is done on a cold engine. So if you’re riding to the SVC, give at least 4 hours for the engine to cool down. Keep the idle RPM set in between 1.3k-1.5k. Idle RPMs are set on a hot engine.

Motul 300V is superb oil, so it’s absolutely ok.

Mileage drop can point to certain things like:

                          1. Low air pressure of the tires/air leaking from tires.
                          2. Tires not in perfect condition.
                          3. Fuel pump/injection system not clear.
                          4. Engine is acting abnormally like incorrect tappet clearance etc.
                          5. Drive chain not in perfect condition.
                          6. Fuel quality degraded.
                          7. Engine oil due to be changed.

There can be many more reasons for a decreasing FE, but above all are the most important ones to check first.

When you’re ripping/cruising at around 120 km/hr, don’t expect the bike to have a FE of above 35 kmpl. Else if everything ok and bike has been maintained well, R15 surely does give a FE of above 42kmpl. My bike’s OD is at 22.5k and it still returning a FE 0f 42kmpl. But at highways when ripped cruised hard, FE comes down to 33-35kmpl.
