Thank you. But I'm no expert. We have some people here who has been riding the R15 since its launch. Asking here will give you more accurate replies. But feel free to PM, glad to helpOriginally posted by mukul17 View Postfirst off thank you for replying you seem to me like a guy who know his stuff . can i pm you for some queries that i have as i am complete newbie in biking and would like to get some knowledge from an experienced rider

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
Rather strange, doesn't the v2.0 have a double clutch cable? My v1 is five years old and same cable, do you ride during heavy rains? That could play a partOriginally posted by christo View Post
Edit: my clutch cable broke yesterday, my 3 month old bike left me stranded on the road. Had to ride to SVC without using clutch, which was 16kms away. ( it was a new experience for me
)
Quality is going down at Yamaha it seems. owners, if you're going for a long ride, please keep a spare cable with you.

V2's are suffering from clutch cable problem... Mine gave up at 18k kms on odo and the other guy on forum also reported the same. And now another :/ and v2 comes with single cable only similar to v1.Originally posted by stefanm View PostRather strange, doesn't the v2.0 have a double clutch cable? Had a fazer before the R15 and it never required a clutch cable replacement even with 50k kms on its odo.Originally posted by stefanm View Post...., do you ride during heavy rains? That could play a part

R15 never really faced heavy rains in its 3 months life
Near the lever, here's a pic. They must be using some cheap a** cables to cut down price or make more profit. Cable costs under 100 rupees.Originally posted by siddharthsure View PostV2's are suffering from clutch cable problem... Could be either a change of vendor or not enough play on the adjustment.Originally posted by christo View PostHad a fazer before the R15 and it never required a clutch cable replacement even with 50k kms on its odo.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
@mukul17 - my R15v2 is also my first bike and i learnt riding a bike (on someone else's CBZ) just 2 weeks (which i rode only 3-4 days for about one hour per day just to learn a bit of gearing before directly sitting my ass on an R15) before buying the R15 17 months ago, before that i was a tvs scooty rider for 10 straight years
i just wanted it so i just bought it. mentally i was not new to bikes because i'd been into bikes, racing, etc for many years before that..but never actually rode or owned anything before R15.
ever since i actually started saving money specifically for my bike (about 1.5 yrs before buying it), i practised and tried to habituate myself just a little bit with the sportier front-leaned riding posture on my scooty by riding it while sitting on the passenger's part of scooty's seat
of course you hardly feel any weight on your hands on a scooty even with that somewhat front-leaned riding posture nor do you get all that feedback from the front on a scooter/scooty (nothing compared to a sportbike anyways) but anyways it was just a little something to do to let the mind have some slightly similar simulated feeling or some placebo effect lol...also used to practice whatever cornering could be done with the scooty
were such massive fun days lol
so just learn riding a bike if you havent done that yet and if you really want to ride a fun filled bike like R15 just get it...just be more than usual careful and gradual in the habituating and learning phase (i.e.. your initial few weeks) of riding the bike because like me you too would be coming from zero background of bikes (let alone performance/sport bikes) with the mind and body habituated to mere scooties/scooters..so give the mind a bit more time to get used to and develop some precise instinct/memory about all the gearing, front braking, using all four of your limbs and not just 2, how to correlate all that with your surroundings (road and traffic conditions) precisely and error-freely, etc etc by being very very observant, experimental and focused..Last edited by aditya_YZF-R15; 12-22-2014, 04:26 AM.

Mine got cut at the exact same place..I guess there is some design issue. Will try shooting a mail to yamaha. You too send a mail with the picture, so that they know its a common issue.Originally posted by christo View PostHad a fazer before the R15 and it never required a clutch cable replacement even with 50k kms on its odo.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
R15 is a very good bike and can keep you entertained on highways and twisties. But in city it will be a nightmare to ride as Christo said. If you buy it you will never regret it. That all of us can attest to.Originally posted by mukul17 View Postme being a new rider and upgrading from a scooty(honda activa) do you think r15 would be a good bike for me and would it be able to keep a rider interested for 3-4 years
i do not mind the sporty riding posture
i do not have much experience with bikes and this would be my first bike
. The sporty posture will need some getting used to . And that would be all.

Svc guys are always lubing inside the clutch lever with grease... Is this the cause for clutch cable getting cut near lever?? psr sir, you told this right?? Went to svc today to get my clutch tightened. They applied grease inside the lever without my knowledge ( Maybe when i went to drink waterOriginally posted by stefanm View PostCould be either a change of vendor or not enough play on the adjustment.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
Hi guys.
How long do you think this brake pad will last? Clocked 3600 on odo and i mostly use the front brake, rarely the rear.
I didn't notice any difference in braking yet. But would i need to change the pads on my next service?
How long does your brake pad lasts??

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum. Anyways I hope someone here can help me out with a problem that I'm facing. I own a r15 v2, it's 7 months old, it's done around 11k kms. I've been using the powertronic rr ecu after my bike did 1500kms. The problem is that my bike just doesn't cross the 8.5rpm mark on the higher two gears, while on stock ecu it gets stuck at 9rpm. The top speed I could attain was just about 132kmph on stock ecu and around 125kmph on the powertronic ecu. There is nothing wrong with the powertronic ecu as it is tuned according to my bike. I recently did a dyno test and got it tuned and moreover I've used the same ecu on my previous r15 v1 and I've had no issues with the top speed. But I'm just not able to figure out why my v2 is not performing as it should. I get slight jerks at higher rpm, it's like it suffers to attain the top speed. Moreover no accidents and I do service regularly. I also checked the spark plugs, it's fine and I use shell petrol and motul engine oil. I'm using an aftermarket simota air filter. But what's bothering me is I see some rust in the tank opening and those holding clamps or whatever it is which is supposed to be fixed to it has come off. I'll attach a picture. So I'm thinking there's some problem with the rpm getting limited due to the tank? I have no idea and I request you people to help.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
My braking habit is exactly the same as yours. I use the front brake to stop the momentum of the bike, rear brake to slow down the rotation of rear wheel, that is very mildly apply the rear.Originally posted by Dixant Thakore View PostHi guys.

My front brake pads lasted a bit more than 7,000 Kms. And even then I doubt they had worn out.
3,000 Kms is kinda soon, but it eventually depends on your riding style.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
Your fuel tank has nothing to do with your bike's rpm. The first culprit I would have suspected is incorrect fuelling, however you have mentioned that you have done a dyno run and got the fuelling corrected. I am just curious to know if the dyno run also tested the bike at Wide Open Throttle (WOT)? If yes, what rpm did is show on the dyno when it was tested? If it showed above 9,000 rpm, then in the real world there is a possibility that the clutch is slipping at high rpm and therefore you are feeling those small jerks and the limited rpm.Originally posted by tj666 View PostHello everyone, I'm new to this forum. However, you have also said that your stock ECU gives you better output than the RD unit. That shows that the fuelling is not correct on the RD unit.
Thus there are some contradictions in what you are saying. However, you can check for either of the two as your most likely culprits. The fuel tank has nothing to do with your current problem.
