  • Re: Yamaha YZF R15 Tire Help

So, after 2 years, 2 crashes and 10000+ kms, i've decided that the standard MRF tire grip is not good, especially if the road isn't a race track. I need something with More grip. I know the brakes are amazing and they hold on like a toddler to it's mom, but the tires love to slide on the slightest of touches and I dunno, but this my theory that the tire doesn't have enough grip to overcome the braking force so it simply locks up on slightly bad roads.

Its the worst experience ever to skid and fall in the middle of a freaking highway! fortunately the road was clear till someone lifted the bike off my foot. And thank god for the Alpinestars TGP-R to soak up all the abrasion (didn;t have knee armor, tore my knee skin off, was flapping about like a tongue, needed about 7 stitches).

So, I need to change my tires. MRF makes these NV series tires. Any idea about how good/bad they are? Also they aren't standard 90/80 tires, they are 110/70 for the front and 140/70 for the rear. Is that good? Or am I reading them wrong? Thought of Pirelli, but they are also 110/70 for the front, Michelin does not make such narrow tires in India. Anybody has changed the rubber of the tires? Need opinion.

Agreed the tyres aren't so great, the v1 tyres definitely had better grip. Not sure you have any better options available, 110/70 up front would raise the ride height by 5mm. You could put the metzlers from the Duke on the back, this would drop the rear by 1mm,but expensive option.

The R15's tires are definitely not made for wet road conditions.Even under the
Slightest of braking the rear tire would skid, even though i use the 70-30 rule even the slightest of gravel on the wet surface will cause my bike to skid.

Mate, the NV series are great man.
I just got a second pair on mine.
Although the front is stock, rear one is a MRF ZAPPER-Q(NV SERIES). The size is same as stock. 130/70*17. Provides ample grip.
                Go for it
                Here's a picture of it!

It is normal for discs to become hot due to friction. But there may be a slight chance that the brake pads might be clutching the discs even when you are not applying any brakes.

To check this, ride your bike for about 500 mtrs and dont use the rear back, ride slowly if you have to (30 kph), then stop and touch the rear disc. If the disc is hot, the brake pads are not installed correctly, make sure that they are fitted properly and check again. Perform the same test on the front disc if you want to.

                  Hope this helps.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

The bike is fine then. And I remember when I did the same thing with mine long time ago. It was like touching a hot pan. LOL.
Glad I could help brother. Ride safe.

                          Hello all,

I am using R15 version 1 and have not used for 14 months as I was away. I am returning and have a big ride planned. I will get the bike serviced from the Yamaha factory service centre... However is there any thing which I need to get done before the ride which service centre might miss it or generally any thing else.

                          Regards

^^you probably want to take the battery for charging, if it's been unused for so long and check the condition of your tyres for any cracks.

You need to get the stock MRF ZAPPER FY1 or opt for any other company like michelin/dunlop/ceat/pirelli
