Re: KTM 200 Duke
@all,
did anyone face the below issue in KTM DUKE 200
- Complete ECU/ engine cutoff during high way/ city traffic run. It happen 2 times post my 1st service.
- During 2nd service my vehicle was checked. I was asked to report back if it pops up again.
I faced this issue, couple of time during the month of November 2013.
Scenario:
During those instances, my vehicle powered off completely with no display @console.
- I was travelling at good momentum (65 – 70km/h) which allowed me to use the engine kill switch (switched off once/ switched on immediately), after this the bike got back to normal state. This happened within a duration of 5-10 seconds approximately.
- On November 23 2013, when I was moving in slow moving city traffic in T. Nagar (15:11 hrs), the vehicle stopped abruptly as if it does have fuel to burn. Fuel level was @4.5litres when the problem occurred. Immediately I called the Mr. Gopal from KTM service, Adyar Chennai who informed that a pick up vehicle would be sent on Monday. Mr. Gopal also asked me, if I could see any error. But no error came up @console
On November 24 2013, almost after 16hrs after the bike stalled, I tried to crank it again next day morning. With no issue, the engine cranked up as normal
Today November 26 2013, I again stopped completely, when I was travelling @60km/hr to office.Regards,
Deva.

I can see that you ride the bike very slow. I think it's an indication from your bike, asking to rev the hell out of it. :P
Jokes apart. Recently my friend Srvn had a similar kind of issue(Not 100% the same). The problem that he mentioned after getting it rectified was because of the false memory in the ECU. The final sol was just to remove it and re assemble the same.
Check with the engineers.KTM Lover,
Zak

Its a long post please bare with it
As Zak said I did face a few problems like:
- Bike would stutter and struggle when I try to rev past 60km/hr even in the 6th gear at the same time momentarily the Speedo showed "0" as km/hr (This first happened at HIghway).
- When i rode within city at low speed in lower gears (2, 3 or 4) and disengage clutch/pull the clutch lever in, the bike would just die with console still lit up.
- Radiator was running on its own when i cranked up my bike, even after a overnight halt (sometimes it runs and sometimes it does not).
All this happened when i re-fueled my bike at a petrol pump (Was looking pretty old and did not even have digital display on the pumping machine).
So i doubted, the fuel quality for being responsible for all this mess.
Also I was at my native when all this happened, 350 kms away from Bangalore and I was too worried about riding it back to Bangalore. The solution to fix the stuttering issue and preventing engine from dying was to re-fuel with some good quality fuel (filled up like 7 to 8 litres of new petrol)
And voila bike would never die or stutter anymore but still with persisting issues of radiator on/off and speedo ocassionally dislayed "0" on the speedo.
After reaching Bangalore took it to SVC and told them issues I faced. They just replaced my bikes ECU with a new one checked for issues, they was no issues anymore.
Next up cleared false data of my old ECU, swapped new ECU back with old one and all issues fixed once and for all.
You may let the SVC guys know about this incident and see what they say about it.
Do keep us posted as to what actions have been taken to get your issues fixed.

Re: KTM 200 Duke
Hi Zak and Sarav,
Thank you for the update. When I receive the update from service, I will share your feedback.
psr sir helped me to troubleshoot the issue, when it happened on Nov 24 2013.
a) he checked whether all electrical connections are intact
b) he checked the fuse one by one
everything was fine, but bike did not crank up. alongside, when you give throttle and crank, you could infer fuel smell, which means fuel pump is working.
finally he told to crank by hold clutch and give throttle. after few attempts it cranked up.
suspicion: clutch switch failure
this was done last weekend. awaiting update from service personnel today.Regards,
Deva.

Re: KTM 200 Duke
Hi guys, from last few days my duke's chain is making a lot of noise and also slapping the swingarm, 1st i thought that tail was making noise when going over undulations and pothholes but when i checked thoroughly i got to know that i was d chain making the noise. I have done 6000kms and my 3rd service is due in 2 days. Is it possible that the chain can wear out so soon..?
Thanks

Re: KTM 200 Duke
You should expect the chain to loosen over time, especially when its new. It's because it's stretching and the sprockets getting worn.
