I think its not the quality, but the maintenance of the chain thats causing so much trouble. Ever since Nilesh and Amit showed me how to take care of my chain, I got the paddock and make it a point to adjust and clean the chain atleast once in 15 days.

Re: KTM 200 Duke
Chinmay!, I do perform regular cleaning n lubing of chain every 350/400 kms that is every once a month, cos I get to ride only12 kms a day, With the exception of lubing it just before going on a 100+ kms ride...
Also I use excess of engine braking, may be that is adding it to the premature chain wear off..!?

Re: KTM 200 Duke
At 6.2k kms on odo my chain slider was replaced as it had worn out pretty well n chain was adjusted.
Despite that I keep hearing khat-khat sound and some harsh sounds like something is rubbing at higher rpms (only) like upwards 8k rpm...
What is it I'm facing?
Can any somebody shed some light?

Make sure that the front sprocket is clean.Originally posted by Srvn View PostAt 6.2k kms on odo my chain slider was replaced as it had worn out pretty well n chain was adjusted.

Make sure that the chain has right slack. Also, the khat -khat sound maybe coming from the rear side of the bike and not from chain. When does the sound come? while ridiing or while passing over a pothole or speedbreaker?
Cheerz!!The real beauty lies in throttle's twist!!
Headlight can be replaced, Head cannot be. Wear a helmet.

Dude, I find it difficult to understand how that fixes up the aforementioned issues. Can you be a bit elaborative? Sorry for my lack of ability to understand!Originally posted by Ri$hi View PostMake sure that the front sprocket is clean.
Sound when ridden over a pothole is commonly heard and I'm sure in my case its not just in that scenario, sounds from rear Yes!, Slackness I'll recheck again...Originally posted by devils_friend View PostMake sure that the chain has right slack. But, what about some rash "rubbing against something" sound thats heard at higher rpms??

Re: KTM 200 Duke
I used to get weird noises from my bike at certain rpms and also when ridden over potholes. It was really annoying, I used to think that its from the dashboard or the light assembly but finally I figured out that its from the sprocket. I removed the front sprocket cover loosening three bolts and allen key using the tool kit provided and found that its accumulated with dirt and grease. I just cleaned it using diesel and a brush and lubed it and the sound disappeared. Just try this and let us know if that fixes Your issue.Originally posted by Srvn View PostDude, I find it difficult to understand how that fixes up the aforementioned issues. Re: KTM 200 Duke
The only sound "rash" i can think of is the chain sliding on chain slider or the noise from tyres. Also, check whether the chain is cleaned and lubed. I feel the chain is culprit.Originally posted by Srvn View PostSound when ridden over a pothole is commonly heard and I'm sure in my case its not just in that scenario, sounds from rear Yes!, Slackness I'll recheck again...

Definitely will try both cleaning and lubing both front, rear sprockets and chain. I find no sounds made by tyres.Originally posted by devils_friend View PostThe only sound "rash" i can think of is the chain sliding on chain slider or the noise from tyres. Will keep you guys posted as to what the above actions resulted in...

Re: KTM 200 Duke
Regarding the issue with the chain, the problem is not with the quality of the chain itself, but of the rubber slider and maybe the front sprocket. I used to religiously lube the chain @ 500 km and adjust slack @ 1000 km, but despite this, the whole lot had to be replaced at 13000 km.
Also it's a good idea to replace just the slider, clean the front sprocket and (obviously) stick to the regular maintenance schedule.
All the answers to the chain problem have been posted in the last few posts in bits & pieces by different users.
You'll be amazed by how much muck is collected on the front sprocket.
But yeah, even after riding with a brand new set (slider, sprockets, chain) whenever I go over bumps at speed, I hear that thwack.

Never clean the chain when the entire is running.Originally posted by Legend Racer View Post@chinmayakar
how do you get the bike to sit on that stand? you gotta lift it? is the stand strong enough to get the chain cleaned with engine running?
It is dangerous. Always turn the wheel with hand and clean the chain.

Re: KTM 200 Duke
hello guys
one of my friend is looking a replacement of his rear sprocket
his bike is from 1st lot with 44T sprocket
he is looking for a 45T ot 46T sprocket
he needs more acceleration as he uses the bike only in the cities and doesn't hit the top much
so which bikes would be a direct fit
