Re: KTM 200 Duke
Even after cleaning, lubing and adjusting the chain almost every 500kms at the workshop, after 6k it started making grinding noises. I believe it was because while adjusting chain tension, they may have improperly aligned the two sides. Chain tension varied drastically at different points. Initially the supervisor told me that I'll have to pay for it, and I said I won't, since it was maintained according to the service manual. They didn't oppose after that and changed it right away. I wasn't even charged for labor.Originally posted by Doga View PostLast edited by leorcid; 02-23-2014, 07:55 PM.

If chassis is rigid and bends are overruled, then may be your rear rim is bent, or(this happened with me), your axle nut is loose or the screw windings are gone. Get it checked at the svc. Or try tightening it at home first and then head to the svcOriginally posted by vikundefined View PostHi guys, from past few days whenever i go over 100 kmph i feel that the rear feel wobbles a bit, wobbling increases as the speed increases after 100kmph. But i dont feel any wobble when the bike is below 100, please help me guys what could be the issue. Thanks

Re: KTM 200 Duke
I've been using Motul 7100 in my bike after my first servicing. Done 8000Kms but the engine feels too rough. I haven't changed the oil since last 2500kms but have completed around 4 months on the current fillup. Should I just keep using the 7100 or switch to something else to make it a little bit smoother??

Re: KTM 200 Duke
They removed the front seat and tank to access the head properly. Gasket was changed and after some inspection it was all packed again. I was having a weird smell coming while starting the bike early in the morning. It was a faulty fuel filter which was charged from me.Originally posted by leorcid View PostFor me it was a simple job, they opened it while I watch. They were able to remove it without touching tank or anything, just through the space between the frame spokes.
Let's see in 2-3 days if the leak comes back or not.

Re: KTM 200 Duke
What happened with my fellow friend yesterday was the console displaying high coolant temperature. And this happened while he was coming back from New Delhi back home doing almost 200+kms by then. 50kms to go (luckily) and then was when the bike shut off. The engine was allowed to cool...but later the engine didnt cranked. The next day was when it was towed to the SVC. It was a minor wiring problem. Pretty similiar like what Doga witnessed. This gives quite an idea and angles looking at the high coolant temp warnings hereon.
But such breakdowns, though being minor, is a scary thing. Probably one needs to get acquainted with the little electricals too. Just saying !!.Code:https://www.instagram.com/ankit_himalayas/

If I'm correct, its been more than 6 weeks since you have been on the Michs
, Why don't you update us with your experience on the new rubber, such as:
- Handling (flickability/cornerning/hard barking)
- Dry grip
- Wet grip
- Loss/gain in acceleration
- Any change in top end
- Tire pressure you maintain.
Simply tell us about pros/cons you felt on downsizing from 150/60 to 140/70.
When I had a chance to look at it here in a tire shop, felt both front and rear to be heavier than the mrf's.
Your experience with the Michs, will surely help us who are keeping them as an option to decide whether to go for it or not.

Re: KTM 200 Duke
Was it under warranty, that you have changed your Clutch plates twice? If not, then how much did you shed from your pocket each time?Originally posted by Doga View PostSo I was finally able to send Bajaj the gripe mail .
Issues noted were:
1) The high coolant temperature problem. It had gone for sometime as I had updated, but was again rearing its ugly head. IN traffic, at night the bars were all full and turning the lamp off would send them crashing back to normal region.
2) The tank leak issue. Fuel was seeping out drop by drop especially when tank was near full capacity.
3) Reduced acceleration. Bike feeling way sluggish after 80 in fourth gear
4) Front brakes having less bite and also making a 'krrr' sound (as many also have complained about in various posts on this thread) when lever is engaged.
5)Bike vibrating at higher rpms.
Of this the tank leak issue was taken care of rather easily and promptly. It was replaced under warranty.
The high coolant temperature issue was tracked to a malfunctioning fan which was strange because when Rehman initially diagnosed it the fan did turn on and off at the specified temp. I used to see the fan turn on.
But may be there was indeed some issue as it turn on even when the temp reached 117 C on the diagnostic tool that day. When I asked the mech if fan is the culprit, then how come temp comes down when headlamp is turn off, he said that since the fan was not feeding on the voltage and winding was faulty the voltage was manifesting elsewhere(I personally didn't buy this, but the fan was indeed not working that day, so I kept mum)
It was changed under warranty. I haven't experienced it turning on since and didn't bother to test.
The sluggish pull was ascribed to gone clutch plates. Yes!! you read that right. My bike needs a 2nd replacement in 25K kms. And no I don't pull wheelies on the eastern expressway while riding to office. Unbelievable parts quality from bajaj. Hats off!
The brakes were lacking bite and making that 'krrr-fluid pumping' sound was because of a slightly bent disc and rim. The bend was sustained when I had a minor accident a few months back and the insurance agent refused to replace mag/disc since it was not much of a bend(very minor barely noticeable) and the ride quality was unaffected(which is in fact true, I don't find any difference). So when the pads try sticking to the disc, owing to the uneven surface of the disc, the sound is emanated.
The vibe issue was sorted by retorquing the nuts, which I am sure means tightening 3-4 nuts which hold the footpeg :P
What happened to your mail, did you get any response?
Shed some light on the same, so that i can compare my issues with yours.KTM Lover,

I have heard stories of complainants getting a call from the engineer immediately but not in my case. What happened to your mail, did you get any response?
Shed some light on the same, so that i can compare my issues with yours.
I'll list actions against the complaints and how it went:
1)The tank leak issue. Fuel was seeping out drop by drop especially when tank was near full capacity.
I got a call from the svc telling me the tank had arrived(It had arrived earlier surely, as I had this issue for a full one week after which I lost it and shot that mail and I only got the call the next day I wrote the mail)
I was called and the tank was replaced under warranty. Basically I think if I had not mailed Bajaj, I wouldn't have got the intimation from the svc(or may be I had to keep on calling to ask if the stock had arrived!!).
I then came back home with the bike that day as it was already 6:30 pm and time for closure.
I didn't catch a whiff of urgency in their attitude as I was made to wait as any other day. I was made to write down my issues all over again on the job card and told to wait.
After the fuel tank was replaced an attendant came and asked me to fill the feedback for. I asked with a sense of bewilderment " What of the other issues?". The guy scratches his head and then tells me to book an appointment later and come with the bike.
And later I was reminded of the complaint I had registered by charging me for a bike wash for the first time ever
(I have hitherto never washed my bike at the svc having misgivings of the manner in which high pressure jets are sprayed onto the radiator and not waiting for the bike to cool down before washing)
2)The high coolant temperature problem. It had gone for sometime as I had updated, but was again rearing its ugly head. IN traffic, at night the bars were all full and turning the lamp off would send them crashing back to normal region.
When I arrived on the day of the next appointment, the fan was changed,as mentioned earlier in my post.It was not turning on at all(as against the day when Rehman diagnosed the problem to a leaky ground connection) .The new fan now does turn up and turns off in quick time. The older one used to take a lot of time and sometimes would keep on running for 15 minutes(I have mentined this too many pages back, but those days the temp bar would remain below the max normal region).
So definitely the fan was faulty, but I am not ruling out the ground 'angle' as I feel this too is a contributing factor and it still is.
The very same day while coming back to home, I encountered the "high coolant temperature" message, but very briefly. It came down rather quick and never again, which means the new fan is doing its work rather well and is bringing the temp down, whereas the old fan was lazy and would take a lot of time to bring the temperatures down which when combined with the leakage voltage signals withe headlamps on(because of the faulty ground) meant the the message would always keep on coming and would go once you switchoff the lamp.Won't disappear abruptly but gradually.
The other mech refused to buy the faulty ground story altogether. He says fan replaced , so now all is well.Though I still see the temp bars dancing bit along with the headlamp switch. The dance is not as intense as before but still is there. Btw Rehman has left the svc, so I don't have much hope either.
3) Reduced acceleration. Bike feeling way sluggish after 80 in fourth gear
Clutch plates won't be replaced under warranty. "It's a wear n tear part sir". So you pay from your pocket as I did last time around(with around 8-9 K on the odo, don't remember exactly). It was around 4K including the oil, as replacing clutch plates mean you have to replace the oil too. So am waiting for my next service(2500Km away).
4) Front brakes having less bite and also making a 'krrr' sound (as many also have complained about in various posts on this thread) when lever is engaged.
This would require a rim and disc replacement which I would be claiming for insurance. Should have ideally been replaced when I originally but the insurance guy refused.
5)Bike vibrating at higher rpms.
This is now Ok. The bike is largely smooth now. Svc tightened some nuts while I did some tightening at home.
I am planning on writing another mail highlighting the parts quality. I'd seek a clutch plate replacement under warranty. The hero always RIDES into the sunset!

Re: KTM 200 Duke
Getting annoyed by the number of punctures that i've faced lately. These tires are really soft
@rk_hooligan please do post a review of the Michelins.
I've done 10k kms so far and have changed the chainset by Rolon, seems like Rolon is the oem supplier for bajaj. I've reduced the sprocket to 42T (stock was 43T). No issues so far, bike feels a little relaxed (might be placebo effect, but I felt it a little relaxed).
Has anyone changed their footpegs? I wanted to change mine to those thin metal ones like the Ninja, our current footpegs are quite uncomfortable while wearing boots.2012 KTM Duke 200 ...Pure Love on two wheels <3

Re: KTM 200 Duke
Surprised to see no response/help out here...or am I asking the wrong questionsOriginally posted by A[k] View PostHi All,
Finally....the day is coming near when I'll own an orange beast...The date is in the head...all the calculations have been made....just a matter of time when the amount in bank matches the amount required
Just as any other person would have before getting a new bike, I too have some doubts that are bugging me...If anyone can help....
Firstly, which is the best dealer for KTM in Delhi, for after sales....I only know KTM at Cannaught Place, because I have seen it only...I dont know any routes here.
Secondly, is it a good time to buy a Duke 200...I mean I may sound rude/weird, but with India not getting 2013 version with ABS and now 2014 version just round the corner and spoofs being shown by Motorbeam regarding testing of it in India...the last thing you would want is the ABS version being launched just after 1 month of buying the bike...
The reason I say is that this is going to be my first bike, graduating from an Activa...leaving 200NS and waiting for the finances to get in line for D200, I would love to have ABS...its simply a life saver....Or am I thinking too much ?...2014 version for India may just be a faux pas ?
Thirdly, and most importantly, living outside my state, at Delhi, and working at Noida, how would I register my bike for Delhi?..Is it necessary to buy the bike at my home and transport it here?...Or can I buy it on my relatives name who live in Delhi, would that be a problem?
Thanks in advance...any help would be much appreciated.
P.S-I plan to test ride it tomorrow at the only showroom I know....would it be open on Sunday?
BTW...went to KTM at Cannaught Place, Delhi...they did not provide the test ride as test ride vehice for D200 was in service and D390 had gone for a tour...but he did give me quotation..the OTR being 1.52L..

I suggest you get it registered in Noida(they have UP plates right?), since you'd be riding in Noida and the cops there may harass you.
Now assumming that you have a rented accommodation in Noida, this may be a bit difficult but hey Noida is no metro and the registration process might be a bit relaxed as compared to Delhi.
ON the other hand, buying the bike in Delhi and getting registered in Noida is possible but may be problematic.
Ask around how much harrasment one can expect from Noida cops riding with a DL number plate. I think since Noida is NCR, there may be a lot of DL reg vehicles zooming around.
Also I suggest you do not buy it in your relative's name, since the insurance would also list him as the owner and if you require to claim insurance later, you'd require his signatures, his account id, his cheque(cancelled). This would be really bothering then. The hero always RIDES into the sunset!

Re: KTM 200 Duke
Thanks Doga,Now I am feeling bad, thinking about the Quality of the Clutch plates of Duke. I heard from someone saying, that these clutch plates are for life time. But, changing them under 9k is way too much and twice now. Even I feel the same, the bike is a bit sluggish now and I don't feel the power, my bike used to have. I have asked many a times to the SVC ppl to check the status of clutch plates and also to perform the Compression check. All the time, I just see their blank faces(due to lack of knowledge) and coming up with weird answers("Sir Engine Oil is not black, so the Clutch plates are fine. We can easily identify the status, while we change the engine oil. Coming to Compression check, there is no such thing to perform Sir").Can Someone shed some light on, what actually a Compression check means, and how it's performed? so that I can explain/educate them on the same. I think compression check will play a crucial role in getting the statistics of the engine.BTW! I moved from B'lore to Chennai recently and my 1st paid service is near by. Re: KTM 200 Duke
AFAIK there is no relation between clutch plate wear and oil color.Originally posted by Syed Zakir Ahamed View PostThanks Doga,Now I am feeling bad, thinking about the Quality of the Clutch plates of Duke. Also Compression check can tell you if your piston rings or valves have a problem.
Compression check is an easy job to perform for someone who knows what they are doing. If I remember correctly a decent engine should have a compression value of about 140 and above.
They just plug in a pressure monitor into spark plug hole and run the starter / kick start with throttle wide open.
Edit: For a decent machine, from what I heard, clutch plates should last somewhere around 30-40,000 Kms. Depending on the style of use - If you slip clutch too much or do clutch wheelies and burnouts or if there is no free play on your clutch lever, then the clutch plates can get damaged in 5-10,000 kms also.
For Bajaj quality, if your clutch plate lasts 20,000 kms I would consider it good. I think mine are almost done (25,000kms) gear lever travel is too much when engaging gears.Last edited by sonu611; 02-25-2014, 03:54 PM.
