Also, observing the same during pickups, I need to pull more throttle now in order to pick up else the bike shuts down. :S
Same thing happened to me also. I would say it can be related to riding style . It happened to me when I used to pull the clutch for little longer and let the bike roll for sometime without engaging gear and completely releasing the clutch . Best bet is to completely let off the clutch asap and run tight( high revs) in each gear . If you are doing say 25ish in 4th gear and pull the clutch completely for tad bit longer leading to sudden fall in rev, bike might stall . Just run tight and keep the correct gears . Don't try to reach lowest limit of every gear instead keep gears in their mid-highs and avoid running with clutch pulled in. I have changed my riding style a bit and since then no problems for me .

After much use of clutch/shift stick and accelerators their 'play' also changes slightly (as you said you have to give more throttle ) that also demands little changes in riding style, so get them adjusted also .

Had a bad day today. Some a**hole stole the oil cap from my bike :banghead: . I didn't notice and rode for around 7kms until I saw the smoke and felt my leg getting wet.
Parked at a side only to realise how much oil had sprayed onto the bike and my right leg. Just because someone steals a bloody 15 rupee cap one has to suffer so much
Hopefully didn't crash and neither the bike suffered any major damages due the the whole incident.
Lost around 500 ml and rode to svc after a little top up using a friends oil. Also a jugad cap(looked like a allout cap) was given by a nearby shopkeeper which worked well for taking the bike to the svc.

As a precaution bought both oil and coolant cap and have kept them in my bag

This seems to be the Kiirus remap, which I had spoken about much earlier. A few guys have done it and have mixed reviews. The rideability does certainly improve. The bike seems to run a bit richer(the stock map feels a lot lean).
The 4 bhp gain, though, has to be taken with a bit of salt.

I don't think they have an edge over the other tuners all over the world :P

Besides if you see the vehicle list and open the KTM RC8 page(I don't know how they developed the map for RC8, given the fact that it's not in India yet and how rare this bike is even in Europe/US, which would make testing very difficult, may be they have friends in Bajaj who gave them one from the few which were brought in for showcasing KTM's prowess), you'll see the contents are exactly the same with duke 200 replaced by RC8R
A bit shoddy, given the fact that they are world leaders

          • Duke 200 oil leak issue

            Hi friends,

Nice to see an active community of Duker's here. Now a little intro from my side.

Bought my Duke and got the first service done shortly before.

I got it after painstakingly bidding adieu to my hot roded FZ.

Some of you must have read about it in the POWERHOUSE FZ18 thread in the Pit Stop section.

So after a lot of contemplation I finally took the plunge and bought a Duke 200.

Now some of would ask why a 200 and not a 390. After all I did hot rod my FZ, right?

Simple. My main use is in the city and this one is a better choice for the city from my point of view.
390 would be way too much for a lot of daily riding.

Now coming back to the question I wanted to ask you guys.

My bike has been leaking oil from the crank where the sensors go inside.

Like from the rubber parts which are fitted on the left side of the crank just beside the block gasket on the gear lever side.

Not only that its also leaking from around the center joint gasket of the crankcase.

Did any of you people have this issue and has been resolved?

My happiness of owning this bike has been short-lived due to this. Feels like I should have kept my faithful FZ.

Any previous experiences would be helpful.

So to sum it up that's how bad its been leaking albeit at a slow rate.

Now the thing is if we stay very optimistic about the problem and think that its
just a gasket leak and nothing major.

Even then they would have to open up a brand new engine and put it back together.

So then should I accept a brand new engine fully opened up and put back.

My mind and heart both say NO. But would like to know if anybody else have done this before.
            cheers...

Its mostly the gasket that is leaking. I also had this problem. Just take it to SVC and they will fix it. They will just open the top lid of engine and put a new gasket with proper sealant.

Today got my oil leak near the gasket fixed. They changed the seal near the cylinder head . It got fixed in warranty.

By saying top lid are you mentioning the Head of the engine.

Coz this leak is at the crank on the left side of the bike and not on the top.

anyways i took it to SVC today and they were casual about it as if these things
                    happen on a daily basis.

I really didnt like the attitude towards the bike.

Lets see what they have to say on Monday when the comapny engineer arrives for inspection.

Hi Novice, Congrats for owning a Duke. Did you try visiting the Service Center? I dont think they will replace the engine, but you may try your luck..But of-late I have noticed Bajaj comes next after Royal Enfield when it comes to leaking engines. Be it pulsars or KTM Dukes...Even Duke 390s leak oil.

Time for Bajaj to check on complacency as it is this kind of stuff that gets you bad reputation, and when competition heats up customers ditch you.

Honestly, if Yamaha had FZ with 200 cc engine that produced 20+ bhp, I would have not gone for Duke. Still waiting for the news on New FZ. These bikes are perfect suited for city riding.

The key stem is broken and scratches in the tank cover mud guard and some other parts . also the foot lever and foot rest are broken. If i am going to replace all the damaged n scratched parts, it is costing approx 11K and I'm planning to claim insurance for the same. the service centre guy is telling that insurance company will reimburse 60 - 75% .

Now if I'm replacing the tank cover (I have currently the black one), can i change it to another colour (orange or white) if i want. Is it allowed? if allowed can i put the 390 tank cover on this one.. will it fit? please help.. Thanks in advance.

                              Thank you.

My bike is 3 months old. And ODO reading is a tad over 1100km. Didn't get to ride it much this winter.

I went to the SVC and told them about the oil leak. They did a visual inspection and told me that they wont needing to open the engine per se.

But they would have to open up the magnet cover i.e the left side cover of the crank case which exposes the clutch plates.

So I made them do it while I was standing over them watching. And the packing inside was replaced.

But to be sure I left the bike there for today and asked them to test ride it.

I told them clearly that after I take the bike home and if this recurs then I am not taking this home again ever.

Even some of the 390 there had come for oil leak issues.

Even if it sounds rude, honestly I wouldn't have gone for the Duke if a suitable bike from the Yamaha stable would have been available.

They really know what the term 'Quality' means. And this is not an exaggeration, mind you.

Though the Duke is a different bike altogether, the Bajaj quality is killing the brand value totally.

Just got know that the export rejects are used for domestic bikes. Very bad strategy indeed.

This shows we get a second grade product compared to the European bikes.

Yes, you can put a tank cover of any color practically. You can also put the 390 cover as far as i know.

But legally you would have to get that changed in the bike's RC book or smart card because of the different color.

Apparently, the head gasket is a real issue for the 200, at least. I am also having an oil leak from the head gasket on the left side of the engine head, not severe though. I am yet to take it to the service center, but frankly opening even the head of a six-month old bike sounds heart-breaking.
