I need your advice on CBR.. Last week i had booked CBR 150R in chennai. delivery time is one month. i shared this to my friends and few of them suggested me to go for CBR 250R.
i am aware of all the pros and cons about CBR 150R. my budget was around 1 lakh. after seeing CBR 150R i could not control myself. decided to go for it though it costs 40,000 more than my budget. CBR 250r costs 30000 higher than 150r. so i feel still i can somehow manage to get. i am not aware of the CBR 250R pros and cons. i am not so good in analysing bikes. presently i ride passion plus. my requirement is stylish bike, with average fuel efficiency, value for money and for long term use (atleast for 10 years).. i can cancel that booking or change the model any time.. so there is no issue on this..i have posted the same question in 250r ownership thread. they said "150 is more of a sports bike vs 250 is more of a relaxed touring bike". i have listed out my requirement below.

I am living in Maraimalai Nagar (20 Km from Tamabarm), chennai. i am 27 years old. working in mahindra city which is 12 km away from my home. i looking for a new bike for commuting purpose. most of the time i will be using the bike to go to my company. . in weekend and holidays sometimes i hang with my friends and go for riding. not every weekend. occasionally i go for a long drive. There are many bikes for commuting. but i want a stylish, reliability and and at least 35- 40km/ ltr fuel efficiency.. my budget is 1 lack. i can spend 50,000 more if it really worth and makes sense...

i am really very much confused... please do advice me on this ...
Hi Alwin, I have an orange version of CBR 150R. It's good for commuting daily also. I use it daily for my office use and for weekends also. Have crossed 2k kms. Very reliable bike. Absolutely no issues. I have also worked in M City, it will be good for your usage as MM nagar to Mcity is not a bumper to bumper traffic.

Reasons why you can use for commuting also is that, 1. Riding position is not very aggressive 2. Mileage is around 38-42 kmpl

On the looks front also, you are sure to attract many people. It's excellent for long drive for cruising around 100-110 kmph without any vibration for longer duration. I am sort of spoilt by the smoothness of this honda engine.

Every bike has pros and cons, there is no perfect bike in this world. At the end of the day, if you are doubtful, you can TD it again.

One issue or maintenance aspect for CBR 150R is chain. It's an open chain, it needs regular cleaning and lubing. This is applicable for any sport bike.

      Hi Neobiker,
Thanks for your response to my questions.. i too have booked vibrant orange ... i feel 1.4 lack for 150cc bike is too high .. how about CBR250R in your point of view which costs 30,000 higher than 150R. as far as CBR 250R is concerned i am worried about only mileage. But i will get 250cc engine, high Torque and quality switch gear, pass light, engine kill switch .. what will be fuel efficiency difference between these 2 bikes ? btw which company you have worked for in M city.. i am working for Reanult Nissan...

      Thanks and Regards,

Hi Alwin, it's not about CC of the bike, its about the nature (how it drives) of the bike. The engine is CBR 150R is not the one from Other hero/ honda 150CC bikes. The only equivalent or comparison is R15 V2. Both R15 and CBR are tuned for racing. Honda has just fitted a pillion seat and less aggressive posture in the race bike, that's about it.

Also, coming back to 250R, it's a great machine. Loads of power and torque. On the mileage front, what I heard from the dealer and the mechanic is around 30 and 35 in the highway. FE diff will be around 6-8 kmpl depending upon your usage. My take is price of any vehicle is decided primarily by the engine. All the other features comes after that. For example, once I test drove a BMW 320d. Boy, what a car that was, but the rear seat was equivalent of a hyundai verna. The sales man told, the whole price(30L+) for the most refined 2L automatic diesel engine. My apologies for the OT.

I am not a big fan of engine kill switch but I do miss the pass light during overtaking.

Also, for me, my budget was 1.5L. I could have stretched for 1.7+ for 250r but if I couldn't find great reviews about the 250R STD but ABS model had great reviews which was 2.05L in BLR and it was way out of my budget. My choices were r15 v2, KTM duke and CBR 150R. I ruled out KTM because it's naked bike, FE, tank size, small/tall pillion seat (just my choices) and I am only 5.5' ht.

In Mcity I was in Infy, currently in BLR.

My dad told me to go for 250. I rejected it for one reason. WEIGHT!! If im a well built guy, I would have considered Royal Enfield stable too.

                    Hi Honda..

I really like cbr 150 r bike which meets all my requirements but only think is that pass light and engine kill switch missing from it. Because of this, I was looking for some other bikes like r15 … etc.
Recently I ready the news that upgraded cbr 150r is going to be released in 2013 1st quarter with all this features and kick start. If this is true then I will wait and buy cbr 150r itself. Because I really loved that bike.. can you please give a confirmation about it or advice me on this … ?

Hoping for the positive response from your end… thanks "

@Alwin, bought my CBR 150R in October 2012. Mileage was around 35+ before 1st service. after first service I get around 38-42 kmpl depending upon your driving style. I love Orange and it clearly attracts many eyes.

                      What I like:
Looks (Love the orange & green), it stands out.
Beautiful engine, very smooth and silent.
                      Pillion seat
                      Engine power in highway
                      Lightweight
                      Very good brakes (especially front)
                      MRF tyres are good
                      Head light is very powerful
                      Highly flickable in the city
Comfortable seating and not very aggressive seating inspite of being sports bike
Gear shift is very slick and slots perfectly well
Looks like a big sports bike in spite of 150CC.
                      Honda reliability.
Many don't like the low and mid torque, I don't see that to be big issue as i don't drive to too many hills and i like to drive at low speeds in the city.
Its not a focused bike but an All-rounder.

                      What I don't like:
                      No pass light switch
No Engine Kill (Not much for me, better if it was there)
Due to low torque, too many gear shifting is required in bumper to bumper traffic or in roads with too many speed breakers.
Open chain, requires frequent maintenance. Not an issue but a maintenance point. This is common with most of the sport bikes.

Other than that, touch wood I have not faced any issues till now. In essence, it suits my personality, I drive slow in city and wants to pull hard in the highway.

Please do not get influenced by any post, they are all guidelines. TD is the best way to understand what suits you based on your budget.

Also, don't hesitate to ask questions, this forum is there for that. Almost all the guys in this forum are positive and passionate about answering queries on bikes.

After this started back, and now was really enjoying the curves. So much so that I missed the turn to Moodabidri ! Didn't mind it though, kept going to Bantwal and took the road from there. And oh my, the road just got better ! Corners got tighter, 2nd, 3rdClick image for larger version

Hello . My brother owns CBR 150 r . During run-in period he got 43 km/liter in bumper-bumper and normal traffic in city . His bike have completed third service . At present he is getting only 35 km/liter if he shift gears below 5 k RPM and he is getting 30 km/liter if he shifts gears above 5 K RPM ..

To ensure mileage ( Things which I know ) Check .

                            Advantages -

                            1.Riding and pillion comfort .
                            2. Softer seats

                            4. Hard suspension set up . Which helps to corner confidently .
                            5. Rev friendly

                            Disadvantages -

                            1. No power at all in the lower gears ( Needs frequent shifting )
                            2. There is screeching sound from the chain
                            3.Speed gets locked at 130 km/hr
                            4. Build quality is poor .
                            4. Fuel efficiency around 35 km/hr ( for normal riding in city )

                              Advantages -

                              1.Riding and pillion comfort .
                              2. Softer seats
                              3. Gab rails
                              4. Hard suspension set up . Which helps to corner confidently .
                              5. Rev friendly

                              Disadvantages -

                              1. No power at all in the lower gears ( Needs frequent shifting )
                              2. There is screeching sound from the chain
                              3.Speed gets locked at 130 km/hr
                              4. Build quality is poor .
                              4. Fuel efficiency around 35 km/hr ( for normal riding in city )

Thank you.... one question here... Build quality & screeching sound Poor only in 150R or 250R as well...?

Can I drive my brand new CBR 150r for long highway drive around 800 kms before first service. I currently stay at chennai, need to take the bike to trivandrum.

Is it a harm for the new bike. Please reply.
