Here are the plugs.. Pic quality is a bit low, but the oils there on the thereads, hence the shining effect from the light. The one with the rusted midriff is the RH, the clean ones LH. Both plug's threads have oil deposits. Considering ive heard that FS oil tends to do this, just thought ill confirm with you since you had the same problem.
PS: Bikes complete stock.

Re: Pulsar 200 NS Owners Review and Experiences
Bikes fine that oil is the evaporated condensate of the fs oil in extreme heat, be scared when you find oily deposits or hard deposits on the spark plug tip! Tip seems clean so you are fine, and change the plugs with the rust. You dont want any of them cracking on installation or while removal.Originally posted by razr View PostAditya N Bharadwaj

Relax, the ns is the 2nd most reliable pulsar I know that exists
The most reliable is the classic pulsar!
Almost all the bikes that run fs oils have a little oil on the threads, its fine.

I know, but i tend to worry. :P But this whole thing started when i started hearing knocking from the engine.. I thought the rusted one gave up or something.. But now i think its the heat produced from my daily commute causing weird tappet noise [I am seriously hating Bangalore traffic. All the commuters on the roads are complete retards.. Cant follow basic traffic rules. I don't think my radiator fans worked so much before, kicks in every 5 minutes]

Re: Pulsar 200 NS Owners Review and Experiences
Hey sorry for a noob question. But,
1. Where are the spark plugs located?
2. Just twist them like a bottle cap to remove them?
3.its like a screw with inverted capital L on it. So what should I be looking at there? Like the distance between them?
4. I just screw them back?
5. Video link is possible (and photo's too)
Please answer this!

If you're engine is past 5000kms you should have got tappets adjusted/tightenedOriginally posted by razr View PostI know, but i tend to worry. :P But this whole thing started when i started hearing knocking from the engine.. They are a little loose to aid run in. Post run in they shoukd be tightened on a cold and I mean dead cold engine, get it done asap. Get carb adjustment set the correct afr.
and checj your coolant levels, svc coolant is crap servo right?

Re: Pulsar 200 NS Owners Review and Experiences
Dude, I've already done 24,000kms.. And i had changed one of my rocker arms already... And i know tappet noise and this isn't it.. But i think adjustment might be a little off on one.. coz once the engine heats up to optimal temp it sounds fine. But when its over the optimal temp [when the fan kicks in] i think it might be getting a little too loose/tight, must be why. Anyway i was thinking of changing the spark plugs and adjusting the valves this weekend.. [luckily its started raining here, i can now see how the sound is when its cold and on my runs engine wont heat up as much]Originally posted by Divyanshp150 View PostIf you're engine is past 5000kms you should have got tappets adjusted/tightened

And i think my AFR is perfect, since the spark plug ends were light grey and pick up is good. And carbs fine, changed the diaphragm last service [ 2 weeks back]
And the coolant, they use is Castrol or Motul. Thats the only ones recommended by Bajaj. I think mines castrol. I haven't had the need to top up my coolant since second service [they poured a little extra since it was near minimum] Its been near max since then.

1.Ive attatched the positions of the spark plugs. The marked wire is the wire which carries charge to the spark plug. You can just pull it out to reveal the spark plug. but make sure you do it when the engines cold. You can see the same wire on the other side too. The third plug though, is tricky to locate. You'll have to remove the tank to reach it.Originally posted by pratiksgole View PostHey sorry for a noob question. But,

2. Yep, they're just screwed on to the head.
4. Yep.
Also adding the link to the spark plug thread which will explain everything else for you. But make sure you have the right tools, at least the hollow spanner for unscrewing it. Much better if you have a torque wrench. And the gap between the 'L' shape piece and the end of the plug has to be perfect, but it is different for almost every bike. There is a special tool to check the gap and the gaps to be kept are mentioned in the manual. But DO NOT fiddle around with the ends.. Can cause serious problems.
PS: Pic attatched is not my bike. :PLast edited by razr; 05-21-2014, 08:49 AM.

Damm! Rocker arm was faulty? Why the change then? Cold engine tappet adjustment always. And if your run in was done in the city then the bike will be a little harsh then the bike run in on a highway. Its just the way it is, enjoy the ride !

ya, the rocker arm was faulty, the bearing which hits the crankshaft produced a play to the sides, which in turn was making a lotta noise.. Luckily the noise came just 2 days before a big trip to Pondicherry.. Cost 600 bucks all inclusive..
My run in was done in mysore, so no stop go traffic, and a lot of highway runs. Actually the engine set in very early. I went through the free services within 8 months..no big problems at all.
All these random problems started once i started going in Bangalore traffic.( my radiator fan had never run at all till i came to this traffic hell)

Re: Pulsar 200 NS Owners Review and Experiences
Yep that's exactly what mine looked like, perhaps with a slight bit more oil. I checked with a friend of mine with a 5000 km old NS running on motul 5100. His plugs just had the carbon soot but no oil. Another member here royalracer also said he had oil on the plugs. Looks like this is a common problem / characteristic (depends on the way you perceive it) of the NS engine. Maybe FS oil also has something to do with this. Coz as far as I remember I've never had oil on plugs when I was using motul 5100 (22k kms back) or castrol power 1 (25k kms back). And I've always made it a point to preserve the spark plugs I've used. I observed the plugs I had used at 10k kms; One of them had residues all along the thread and the other was clean!Originally posted by razr View Post@Aditya N Bharadwaj

It's about time you got a new set of spark plugs. Tell you what, try NGK iridium slave plugs meant for 220 (Code: CR8EIX). 220 also uses the same stock plugs as NS and this NGK should suit both bikes just fine. What I observed: burns clean for sure, throttle response and fuel efficiency have improved very marginally (like 1-2 km/l), very easy cold starts (not that it was a problem for me), stable idle, slight deeper engine note and doesn't ever need a replacement coz they almost never have carbon fouling & made of durable materials. Costs 550 bucks EACH. If you feel they aren't worth the gains then stick to stock and dont try any other plug. I'm just mad enough to get the best and most impractical stuff out there for my bike, just for that premium-ish feel.
Btw since you're from Bangalore, are you a member of the Naked Wolves?

Ya, been reading the same all over. Its a characteristic of FS oil, it seems.
I know that the spark plugs need to be changed. And the NGKs sound like exactly what i need.. But im strapped for cash now (im still in college- but currently training-which is why im in this hellhole) so whatever pay im getting is going into my riding jacket fund.. And i don't have any time until weekends.. But thanks for the suggestion. Ill try to get those anyway.
And, no, im not a part of naked wolves.. I've met a couple of them once, though. I didn't use to stay much in Bangalore till a few months back. (family shifted here only two years ago). So don't know anyone other than from my college here..

Re: Pulsar 200 NS Owners Review and Experiences
Guys, I get a burnt smell after riding some time. I am worried if my engine would be damaged due to this. I suspect low engine oil level for this. I can't see the oil until I tilt my bike more than halfway to the right, which is way below the min level shown on the glass thing. I got the MOTUL 7100 20W50 at 600km on the ODO, now its 4030km on it. Should I jst top up the rest 700-800ml left, or drain and refill the whole 1.2l again.Originally posted by Aditya N Bharadwaj View PostYep that's exactly what mine looked like, perhaps with a slight bit more oil. @adithya: Can you tell me where can I get Motul 7100 20W50 oil. I am unable to get it at service centres. I found one old bottle at Chamaraja double road but it had a small issue.
On my used bottle I see BA2 written, the one in the shop has BA. Does it make any diff? Also the price now is INR 895. Can I get it cheaper anywhere?
I am now riding in 50s due to the smell,Please help.
