    Hello all,

I am facing starting issue with my NS for some days now. It has become o critical now that I cannot switch off my bike on signals or in traffic as it might not start again for many many attempts. I had went to SVC to show my problem and to my dismay the bike was behaving too well and did not show any issue. I could not demonstrate him exactly how bad the problem is as the bike was getting started normally (talk about Murphy's law ). Without much symptoms to observe he said I need to change the clutch lever and its housing along with the starter switch. He did not have it in stock so could not replace them. But here is the thing. I don't think its the issue with the clutch lever and starter switch. So I am here to ask opinions from you people. Here is the description of my issue:
    • Bike wouldn't start in gear with clutch pulled back. This is the normal way I start my bike. Doesn't start the bike even after 10 or sometimes 20 attempts. I keep getting "kat kat" sound from below the seat (i think some kind of switch near battery) but no crancking to the engine.
    • I tried starting bike in neutral. Now if there is an issue with clutch and starter switch, then at least in Neutral bike should start quickly right as the clutch does not come into picture here. But even in neutral my Bike does not start without many attempts.

Due to this I think there is an issue with battery or something near battery. If the clutch-starter switch has issue, the electric signal for start would not have generated and there should be no movement in the circuit downstream. But I keep getting thie "kat kat" sound from under the seat, which means signal from clutch is getting generated and passed down the circuit. Also the problem in starting in Neutral also makes this doubt more firm.

Has anyone faced such issues here? What do you guys think what could be wring?? I tried to tighten clutch level which had become lose but that also did not help.

What would be price for Clutch + its housing + starter switch?
What would be the cost of NS battery? If I have to change it, should I stick to OEM bettery or there is some better alternative available??

    TIA.

Battery can be the issue.. do check the battery o/p voltage by removing it..
Also, did you check the spark plugs?.. they might have carbon on them and thereby making it difficult to crank the engine..

First check battery. This problem can happen due to discharged battery or battery near its end of life. Starter will still work in btw when the battery manages to store charge for sometime. Recharge/replace battery if faulty. In case of replacement, stick to oem or one of exactly same specifications and type (sealed lead acid)

            If battery is ok,

Your starter relay is working fine with a kitkat sound. So all electrical parts associated with cluth/gear are working fine. The starter is not working because the Carbon Brushes inside the starter have worn out. It may work due to Murphy's law when the worn out brushes somehow manage to make contact once in a while. Replace the carbon brushes. Don't get it done in svc. Find a mechanic you can trust or the Bajaj dudes will replace half of the parts inside the engine and your problem will not get solved.

Note: bajaj may or may not have carbon brush. Your mechanic will remove them and will find one of matching size if NS spare is not available.

Guys, facing a trouble for last two days. The Disk Brakes heats up a lot even during 4km ride. To check this out, I did a small test drive, braking only during stop at the end of the drive. Then also, this problem continues. What to do guys? How to remove piston from the calipers? Would be great, if someone posts the steps with pictures. Thanks in advance.

Same problem i have faced.. Went to bajaj 4 time 4th time it got solved... 4th time i got a good machenic... He reassembled whole rear break assembly...... Check ur chain adjusters reading should be identical... This could be problem, tyre alignment could be wrong.... Before going to bajaj.. Give some time to ur bike understand the problem then go there with exact problem...

Thanks you guys for the replies.

If indeed the battery is gone caput, is it normal for a battery to last only like 3 years and 25000 km? I thought those batteries last long.

Sadly I don't know any mechanic in Bangalore as I am quite new here still and never really needed to take it to any mechanic. Also I am sure Bajaj SVC guys will try to dupe me by changing all sorts of un-necessary spare parts. Thats why I first posted here to see why other NSians think.

Is it a good idea to go to a battery shop and get the battery checked?? Would it help to get it charged and see if it works?? I had this issue to a much smallar scale some time ago which went away after servicing. It now again creeped out but to much worse level.

Thank you. Going to reassemble the whole brake systems on my own. The Bajaj people here, dropped my bike, during my last visit. Since then, I don't trust their workmanship.

Before fully tighting the wheel axle nut, check free rotation. Tighten medium, check again. Full tight, check again. If wheel is free when axle nut is loose, but brake bites when nut is tightened, alignment is wrong

                            Front or rear?

if they are overheating then most probably pistons arent moving smoothly. in past i have serviced front disc of my P150. pistons were so jammed, i had to hammer them to other side by inserting old disc pads.

This is also a possible issue. Will have to clean the piston/cylinder and maybe replace the full rubber kit too
