Re: Pulsar 200 NS Owners Review and Experiences
Hello all,
got my 200AS a thorough washing as it had been in the rain for a few days and got some mud. After goign home and parking it, i looked the next morning and could see a lot of RUST on the chain and sprockets. Is this normal?? Or do i have to do something about it?

Re: Pulsar 200 NS Owners Review and Experiences
Oh that's bad.still rust should never form so soon.you need to get it replaced even though service centre would say its not under warranty.you just need to blast them and under no circumstances agree for a non replacement.just keep on asking them for a replacement .if they say no and give a reason that its normal wear and tear then complain to the manager saying under no case this can be a wear and tear as AS is a new bike and rusting should never form so soon.infact imagine how it would be after 2000 kms.Originally posted by guptavis View PostHello all,

Re: Pulsar 200 NS Owners Review and Experiences
DO frequent chain lubing to keep the rust away. Lube at every 500kms on normal days and every 300kms in rainy seasons.Originally posted by guptavis View PostHello all,

The mud sticking on your sprocket probably contains some salt. Mud from coastal region?Originally posted by guptavis View PostHello all,

Re: Pulsar 200 NS Owners Review and Experiences
If you ask me, I'd say it's normal. A short trip should should clear it up. But clean the sprockets of the mud though. It's the reason for the rust. Also, it can cause unnecessary wear of sprockets.Originally posted by guptavis View PostHello all,

Re: Pulsar 200 NS Owners Review and Experiences
Thanks for the quick reply everyone! My bike has done ~1800Km bought on 7 June and runs in chandigarh and solan, Himachal.
I lube it with Total car gear oil 80W90 after every 400Km or so which takes maybe 10 days. SO was not expecting this. However this was in the morning when it had rained quite a bit in the night.
I do lube with 80W90 gear oil ~ 400kms. Is that not good enough?Originally posted by Gnayak View PostDO frequent chain lubing to keep the rust away. Lube at every 500kms on normal days and every 300kms in rainy seasons.
Problem is i have zero trust on the dealer. For the sound, vibration issues they just say its normal without even looking at the bike!! they gave me a fake centre stand with no MRP or hologram on the pack and simply dont believe in giving bills. And being a small city the mechanics are really clueless about the bike and their service standards are bad even by the pathetic bajaj standards. Can i go to a different dealer in chd for this? BTW bike is ~ 1800KM.Originally posted by xplod566 View Postif they say no and give a reason that its normal wear and tear then complain to the manager saying under no case this can be a wear and tear as AS is a new bike and rusting should never form so soon.infact imagine how it would be after 2000 kms.
Thanks for the reply krishna. No its not coastal, infact im atleast a 1000km from the nearest coast. Im in chandigarh and himachal pradesh. So no coastal mud, its himalyan mud! Does this make a difference? Is this a serious issue if not coastal area?Originally posted by krixna View PostThe mud sticking on your sprocket probably contains some salt. Mud from coastal region?
Thanks. Will clean the chain. SO this kind of rust is normal ??Originally posted by John P Daniel View PostIf you ask me, I'd say it's normal. A short trip should should clear it up. Maybe some more pics from the same day would help:

Re: Pulsar 200 NS Owners Review and Experiences
This yellow powdery rust is normal due to dampness in air and mud scratching the metal. Clean off the mud and apply lube/gear oil to the chain. It would be more than enough. Reason for frequent application of lube in rainy season is because the lube is washed away by rain water. A shorter interval lubing will take care of it.Originally posted by guptavis View PostThanks. Re: Pulsar 200 NS Owners Review and Experiences
Sprocket and chain are made of carbon steel. If you put them in distilled water, it will not rust. Add a pinch of salt, and you can see what happens. Rain water is almost pure. But any mud will have a little amount of some kind of salt. Rain water dissolves it, and starts working on the metal. Problem is worst in coastal areas, so I asked. So, any time mud sticks to non-painted metal, like chain and sprockets, wash it off with water asap (don't use any detergent on chain) and dry. Lube the chain after it dries.Originally posted by guptavis View PostThanks. Will clean the chain. SO this kind of rust is normal ??
The oil you use is ok. Thicker 90 oil sticks to the chain better. Best to use a chain-spray.

Re: Pulsar 200 NS Owners Review and Experiences
this isnt normal , Rust shoudnt form on chain if you keep it properly lubed, warm the chain by riding few kms and then wipe dirt off the chain by using a dirt/rag/ kerosene(for hardcore guys) and then apply lube or chain spray. wipe excess off.Originally posted by guptavis View PostHello all,

Re: Pulsar 200 NS Owners Review and Experiences
Considering its just a 1800 Kms old bike dont think the rust is normal at all.Originally posted by John P Daniel View PostThis yellow powdery rust is normal due to dampness in air and mud scratching the metal.
