Well this is news to me!!! I have always used a combination of both (engine braking and brakes) with my previous bikes... Didn't face any issues or sounds.

Just to make sure we're on the same page, this is what I do:
    1. When I know I'm about to stop at a certain distance, i let go of the throttle
    2. The bike gradually looses speed.
    3. Then I blip and get to lower gears (5,4,3,2), making sure i'm well within gear ratio limits.
    4. Depending on the distance and speed, i make take assistance of the breaks also....

Would this procedure also put unnecessary strain on the engine??

Actually 97(2)/177MVA, pertains to Headlights. in 1988, we didn't had pilot lamps But yeah cops can fine us under this act.

@sayank: thats what i fear... 36kmpl in run in is too low...
Under super hard ripping I got 32KMPL and under normal city riding with pillion I get 36-37. One can tune carb for their needs as well.

I was all eyes. The kids in the area itched me for a pic. People at signal stared at the bike, forgetting to notice the green signal

Buy a CRAMSTER tank bag and use it on rear seat. The best option.

Don't worry it won't harm the engine, under normal condition use the Brakes with engine braking, nothing will go wrong.

@shibadip: now i understand what you mean by that dirt bike feel that day... and yes i went with too much expectations and got disappointed but who cares when i am getting all these under a lakh its like an end of season sale...

@rahuldevnath: 32kmpl under extreame ripping and 37 under normal with pillion is good... In single it will go up 40kmpl for sure.. Wow! now if i get less than 30 then i am coming down to bangalore to get you... hehe... Just waiting for my dad to return to kolkata so that i can book it getting frustrated now

engine braking at low revs will do no harm . i was talking about people who use engine braking at above 6000rpm to slow down by downshifting ..its about the feel of engine .. never stresss the engine in initial stages ..just show engine some mid revs when it is warmed up ..

                  Right..
When you use engine braking at high RPMs the bike will get a Jhatka, and the RPM needle will go close to Redline, which is absolutely not recommended...
However using Engine braking at lower RPMs will help in proper setting of the Engine..

                    • getting a economy of 42kmpl now in running in mode .. 100% city riding.
finding it hard to run in as the engine is a rev friendly one and the power band is little above 4k rpm.

                          Sure buddy..
Am very exited to get my beast. And will love her and take care of her just like I did with my P150.

                          My complains:
                          1. the bike sways towards my Left, in the process my right hand tries to compensate, unconsciously, giving me a hand-ache..
                          2. I have to crank the starter twice during a cold start in the mornings.
                          3. Most Important: I need an Engine guard !!!! Its so painful to clean the underbelly of the engine everyday...

Sorry friend, but I might have missed your Earlier post..(change of ur avtar pic might have been the culprit)

There is a slot for Engine Guard on the NS frame as discussed by @payeng and others.. But a Duke engine Guard wont fit coz of the Exhaust design. Will try to find something once I have my Beast.

                          Nice Pics... Keep Riding

                          • My bike sways to the left. (both hands off the handle)

I remember someone had found out the reason and solution for it. But, I cannot find it. Even tried google search of our site, No luck.

no solution found for it yet .. riding with both hands on the handle is the only solution ..
