Use it with a tooth brush...dip the tooth brush in diesel & apply on the chain & sprocket to remove the dirt...Did any of you face any issue while using Diesel as a cleaning agent?Originally posted by Shibadip View PostAs Surojit said, 1s clean the chain. Diesel is best, if u don't have Chain Cleaner. However, i use the 2nd best available, i.e Kerosene.
1st make the chain warm, by riding a little bit. use a brush and apply diesel/kerosene all over the chain religiously, and keep it like that for abt 10 min. Then use a cloth to wipe out all the dirt. Make sure chain is properly cleaned, and there is no diesel/kerosene left over. (otherwise t will eat away the lube as well.)
Then apply the lube nicely all over the chain - on the inner-side of the chain(vertically; as the centrifugal force while riding will take the lube to the outer side), and on both sides (horizontally)Being best is not about beating everyone. Iv used diesel as well as a motul chain cleaner. Honestly, over a period of one year I didn't find any such difference after using the two. Both of them did fairly well. May be it was a psychological factor or what (due to diesel's cheap rate), I am still using diesel. No issues at all...neither earlier nor at present. So I think you can go ahead without facing any issues.Originally posted by ankur2smart View PostDid any of you face any issue while using Diesel as a cleaning agent?

The point of cleaning, lubing the chain has always been very controversial, probably because lack of any clear cut evidence. If you go by the book, on "o" rings, any kind of solvent, including Diesel, Kerosene is sure damage and dry up the pre-injected lubes of the "o" rings. And one should stick to special spray able cleaners and lubes.
However, all these chain sprays, lube and cleaner have to rely on few components to make them "spray". The same way we have aerosols. Are these bad for our chains? No evidence.
From my experience, I have used WD40 to keep my chain clean, and my "o" ring chains, prior to 200NS have lasted well for about 20-22K Kms. Also, I prefer to use SAE90 grade gear oil, which is way much cheaper then any chain spray.
But I have found out the 3M products to be best when it comes to using them. So, on 200NS after washing my bike, I prefer to use the 3M Sprayable grease, so as to avoid splatter and later on move to gear oil. But at 11K kms, on my 200NS I already have kink on the chain. Not sure if it's because of the quality of the chain itself, shorter gearing or my use of WD40.
What ever one uses, keep in mind the whole chain-sprocket kit itself cost less than 2K. Considering that most spray + cleaner combo, would almost be 50% of this cost, suddenly seems to costly an affair for a bike which is touted to be the most VFM bike.Been There, Done That; Better!

Anyways, I guess its better to use Diesel as you mentioned the whole kit itself is only Rs 2,000.
Thank you every one for sharing their methods
Lastly, Rahul sir can you post a pic of your bike's chain, I wanna see the kink you are talking about

The Chain Sprocket kit comes for 1209 INR.....Originally posted by rahuldevnath View PostWhat ever one uses, keep in mind the whole chain-sprocket kit itself cost less than 2K. Rather than spending a lot on cleaners and lubes... why not change the chain Sprocket set only?????

Hi Guys,
Just clocked 524 Kms on my bike and gave it for servicing today morning. In my previous post i had mentioned my problems regarding overheating, engine oil leak among others. Mentioned the same observations to the SVC guys. The said they would look in to the same. Also he offered me to get the bike polished for 400 rupees and asked whether i would like to change to Motul 7100 which is synthetic right? Is it okay if i switch to the same? or should i continue with DTSi oil? Please help me with this..
Thanks
Arvind

Polish is not needed now....
Motul 7100 is also not needed now... it is a full-synthetic oil... use it only post 4500-5000 kms

i had a query...first in a chain sprocket kit do we get the chain and rear sprocket only or do we get a front sprocket too?Originally posted by surojit View PostThe Chain Sprocket kit comes for 1209 INR.....

and 1209+tax right?
what kind of polish? 400 seems too high and frankly speaking if u put in a little of your own time u can find a decnt wax polish at a little more than half of what that guy quoted and get the polishing done on your own...if the guy said teflon coating..simply reject it...and PLEASE dont change to motul 7100...it is a fantastic oil and is synthetic oil + it is very costly...but a new bike should never be given a synthetic oil....u can continue with dtsi or go and buy motul 3100 or motul 5100 and tell the guy to put that for you since they do not mind to change oil with any other brand except dtsi...Originally posted by theproctor_redfury View PostHi Guys,

Cleaning and lubricating are two different things, use of WD40 for cleaning is good idea it cleans better than any solvent but burns hole in your pocket, best way to clean sprocket-chain is to immerse them in diesel/kerosene and blow compressed air. Coming to lubricating the chain, yes SAE90 oil does better job. Personally I feel chain cleaning and lubricating is done best at workshop I will not recommend this as DIY as solvents and oils will spoil your back yard/home and pose danger to skin/body.Originally posted by rahuldevnath View PostThe point of cleaning, lubing the chain has always been very controversial, probably because lack of any clear cut evidence. Cleaning+Lubricating : Every 3000 kms (Workshop recommended)
Lubricating : Every fortnight/every 500 kms (using manual lubricating pump depending feel of dryness of chain - this one is DIY)

When I purchased my own Chain spray (Bajaj One) some time ago.. I had asked inquired about this from an experienced SVC mechanic. He told me just to lubricate the chain only.. even that not strictly at 500Kms but when I think the chain is getting dry. Cleaning the chain can also be done at home but when the chain gets dirty enough. I said.. Can I use kerosine for it ? He said Kerosine can be used & but dilute it with one other substance (I didn't pick the name of that chemical) .. like 1:10 ratio . He seemed to stress the 1:10 dilution part.. like better not to use kerosine alone but dilute it.

The oldest method of SVC ppl to make money out of free service. Kindly say NO to polish & MOTUL is best oil you can switch to(many members will vouch for it any day). Like above two members mentioned, don't switch to 7100 it's fully-synthetic. Go for 3100. Try not to go for BAJAJ oil, its OK but the bike deserves the bestOriginally posted by theproctor_redfury View PostHi Guys,

You got it serviced yet ? it's 500-750kms for first service.Originally posted by Horror View PostOK the bike is almost 3 weeks old now and I've done 750kms on it, touched 80 and the bike does it fairly easily and the engine is really quiet and hums at that speed with 0 vibrations in 6th gear, but as soon as I let the accelerator go the bike starts to vibrate a bit as it starts loosing speed. Anybody else with this?
