I usually drive my bike at around 80kmph, and sometimes push it to 95+(around 6k RPM@6th gear, for a few seconds). After first service, around 500km on ODO, I ripped my bike like crazy for two days. The bike never felt the same again, it vibrated like crazy for a week after that. But now ODO is 1000kms and the vibes have come down a lot... almost none in the morning when everything is cold. But they get increase with increase in temperature(ie after 15kms of continuous driving around the city). Pulsar180 and ApacheRTR180 beat my bike(they ride alone, but I take a pillion with me and don't push the bike beyond 6kRPM)... is this normal? Or has my bike lost power?

What do you reckon? How damaged is my bike? Is it reversible? Or am I a goner?

And people.... please don't come to me with a smirk on your face saying "read the manual".
My odo is above 1500 kms
I have also the same issue. but not exactly like you.
above 5.5 K RPM engine firing lost its fluency ie smoothness
for example I couldn't drive my bike at a stable RPM above 5.5K
    It is just like "spitting"
I had taken it to SVC. but they have no idea (KVR Bajaj, Malappuram, Kerala)
& the mechanic confirmed that missing is there. They have to check for the cause.
I hadn't much time, so I taken back.
    I have been getting stable mileage of 43-45 Km/Ltr. (55-65 KM/Hr)
So I am afraid to make any change in carburetor.

Guys, any idea , what should I do?

I had taken my bike up to 125 KM/Hr a day before, because of my cousin's accident case (unfortunately he had gone)
    I had ridden over 20 KMs @ above 100 KM/hr
above 90 KM/hr; its gives me fear. My bike is not stable at all. it is just like flying.
even my old Unicorn was stable than NS & vibe less @ its full throttle (115 KM/hr)
I wish if I am the only rider in roads !!!!!
So I can red line my bike all the time

    • A close shave

      Hello friends,

Today, I met with an accident. I am at home typing this into my computer with the epiphany that I have survived an accident but could have died. God spared me, a second time though with minor injuries. The first time was when I fell out the door of a moving bus only to land in a thick patch of sand by the road's shoulder deposited by the monsoon torrents, without a single scratch.

Here is an account of what happened today:
After roaming around in the city with my friend, I was returning home (I dropped my friend en route). It was night and I was going probably at 55 kmph. The road (NH 47) was poorly lit. A dog ran across my path and I hit the wretched creature. It happened so fast like in the blink of an eye. I could not hit brakes. There was a loud thud from the impact and I fell to the right. I was still seated on my bike and was dragged by the momentum for a few metres. After a few seconds that seemed like eternity it stopped. To my surprise, I stood up. I mean I was able to stand up. And then I pulled my helmet off and threw it to the ground. I turned back to face my bike and it was lying there like a wounded beast, panting. The engine running and the lights were still on. A few guys came to my aid and I told them that a dog ran across. They were asking me if I was hurt and can I stand, walk, jump. Two of the guys picked my bike and switched off the engine and laid it on the side stand. At this point I was still in shock. But I was trying hard to make sense of what was happening. Some body asked about the dog and I looked around and it was no where to be seen. I am certain that it was badly hurt and is suffering silently. One of guys showed me a huge tuft of its light brown fur embedded in the centre stand. From this, the guys where convinced that it was indeed a dog and that I was not drunk. I don't booze by the way.
Now I took stock of the situation and checked out my bike. The right wing mirror was shattered, the crash guard was bent and the brake peddle was bent too (bent inwards). The right bar end and brake lever was worn off from the dragging. As it was dark, I could not see much and assess the damage in detail.
I sat and cranked the engine. It started with a roar. The guys told me to go to the nearby hospital. I thanked them all and I went off. On the way, I dropped in at the hospital and did a check up. No broken bones, no head injury only a few minor wounds.

I am forever grateful to those nice people who came to me when I fell. And for the dog, I hope it won't be in pain for long. I am also thankful that my bike did not suffer major damage. Tomorrow, I will take it to the svc and have them analyse it. I did not find any broken pieces of the bike's plastics.

Here are the things that I did, but I am not certain if these actions are the reasons that saved me from serious injury and death. I am not sure if I did all this consciously or out of instinct for the need of surviving. The moment I realised I am falling, I pulled my right leg in and held it tightly against the bike's body. I did not let go of the handle bar even as I fell and while I was dragged. I let go only just a moment before the bike came to a halt. I twisted my body and held my head high while I was being dragged. This, I think prevented my head and shoulder from hitting the road. I ended up tearing my skin on my right hand though. I was wearing boots with thick soles. This may have protected my feet.
In all, the little crash guard and the handle bar saved me. These two things bore the brunt of the impact.

I am a careful rider. But I guess we can't do anything much when a dog or a cat decides to dart across the road in full speed.

The whole incident took just a few seconds. Those few seconds of helplessness were immense, too much, too fast, yet it seemed to go slow like it took forever to end; the machine that was in my control all this while was no longer in my control. Helplessly, I wanted those moments to end. Just end.

Pillion makes a difference. Why do you think companies talk about weight reduction. This probably why those 2 bikes beat you.

        @spknair
Try to check AFR setting. I have heard the bike gets a lot of vibes if the settings are not optimum. Check the carburetor and spark plugs too for missing issue.

There's is nothing that you could have done. Once you hit the poor creature... it was already too late for you to react or do anything to avoid the crash. Situations like these make us realize how perilous Indian roads are. I mean we are talking about the National Highway here and a National Highway is poorly lit. Even if a bike has ABS, Traction Control etc, if you hit something, it's a packed deal.

          Be safe man.

I wanna change my rear tyres at the earliest so that these new stock tyres fetch me a good price. Can someone please advice on a tyre which has the following features

1 good grip, wet and dry both ( i just occasionally push my bike to the limits )
            2 not too puncture prone
3 slightly wider/ broader than stock ( changing it so might as well go for a broader one which enhances the look of the bike from rear )
4 but at the same time doesn't fiddle with the efficiency too much

            Pls help ppl

I had read Rahul Barik providing good suggestions on tyres front. May be you could help me out with this sir.

There isn't any practical run-in kilometer hurdle for any bike, though it's given as 2000 kms in the manual. It completely depends on the riding style, the rider, the conditions the bike's being used in and a variety of other parameters. You should be able to make out if the run-in is over, for example, you'd notice a change in the sound of the engine, i.e it becomes a tad bit quieter. No one would know a bike better than the rider whose been riding it everyday. If still in doubt about it, consider 1500 kms as the instant at which the majority of the run-in is completed.
Note: a bike shows it's true colours after 5000 kms.
Don't worry, just ride your bike as you normally would and forget any plans to ride it like a splendor now No offence to anyone.

no most of the motorcycles with digital fuel gauge has the same problem...I had apache rtr previously It also used to show minor error in fuel level but ns's error in the fuel level is jus too much.. it shows full tank even if it is half filled......n yes kerosene can be used to wash the chain.....I use kerosene others may have other opinion

What i have discovered is that if you start the bike while sitting on it and its not leaning anywhere then the gauge is accurate, and when you start the bike when its on the side stand the fuel guage automatically becomes half, Which chain lube do you use @dipxmebh

ur worrying too much ! loss of power doesn't occur just like that.. your bike's engine is more durable than you think it is.

i don't think there's anything wrong with P180 & RTR180 to beat your NS while you ride with a pillion & not even go above 6krpm. is this what happens in some sort of a drag ? or are you normally lagging behind in traffic.
