  • Just installed MRF Zapper Q @ d rear

Hi, I just installed MRF Zapper Q @ d rear 130/70 best of both worlds, medium compound & best dry & wet grip & bike now is hugely Stable..

When finally decided this tyre is in huge demand , no where available in Delhi , had 2 go 34 kms @ badarpur in delhi only one piece available rest out of stock.

Revz s available every where , excellent grip , but Puncture or nail magnet.

My suggestion Zapper Q. Rest up 2 u.

    bye

I wanna change my rear tyres at the earliest so that these new stock tyres fetch me a good price. Can someone please advice on a tyre which has the following features

1 good grip, wet and dry both ( i just occasionally push my bike to the limits )
    2 not too puncture prone
3 slightly wider/ broader than stock ( changing it so might as well go for a broader one which enhances the look of the bike from rear )
4 but at the same time doesn't fiddle with the efficiency too much

    Pls help ppl

I had read Rahul Barik providing good suggestions on tyres front. May be you could help me out with this sir.

    • Guys, i have read stories about SVC no changing oil during the very First service and charging for it, i just had my first service done, the oil which i see through the round glass is dark in colour , is this the natural colour of the DTSI oil when new??

ya agree, though isn't the FE relatively same in Duke200 ? When I went to the orange day in Noida which was held last year in December.. some Duke owners claimed they get 30-40 km/l which is same as NS. I haven't been following the Duke Ownership thread so i'm not sure abt this.. but ya NS is a great achievement for Bajaj.. best bike produced in it's price range.

it's completely dark ? check again and confirm. It might be reused oil man. newly poured DTSi oil isn't supposed to be dark but sort of like custard ?

btw, i had opened the front sprocket later today & re-checked for the kat kat sound.. it seems the overly tight chain is under stress ? & hence the sound. is that alright ?

And the clearance between the electrodes is roughly 1mm. My dad said it's too much and that it should be ~0.5mm. I have NEVER had cold start troubles or misfires and my bike gives a mileage of 37km/l under mixed conditions. The plug is 6600 kms old. Is my dad right or wrong?
That's near perfect mixture you're running on. Clearance is also ok, though it should ideally be 0.8 mm. You may get it adjusted if you like. A plug with more than required clearance (>1.2 mm or so) results in weak sparks and cold start issues. Weak sparks are red in color. Ideal spark (0.8mm clearance) will be bluish and in your case it will be yellow+blue combo.

Lol bro, its mustard. But don't simply go by the color. It should be mustard like in color, but its the viscosity that matters. Check 2-3 drops of oil on your fingers and rub them. If its viscous enough and you don't feel anything coarse in it it is fine, else it's bad oil.

I thought of taking it back to SVC immediately.. but i said screw it just ride like this & may be the chain will loosen up slightly & sound will be gone. However, due to this I think the footpegs are starting to vibrate, not crazy vibs but alot.
Few weeks ago I got my CO levels checked they were like 2.07 ?? Today when he was testing it turned out to be 3.60 something again ? How does it increase by itself. The Mechanic seemed to have trouble rotating the AFR screw but after a few retries he managed to set it back to 2.0 something.
nonetheless.. my NS is running alright, running great infact. Happy!

But how much will I rate the work of my Service center ? 4/10 Poor. I examined these people today from the waiting room, watched all the work on my bike in front of my eyes.. Just poor man.
Having exactly the same issue with the front sprocket and vibs due to it in footpegs. Even after adjusting the chain twice its still there. I agree the service is poor. You have to pressurize them every now and then for small small things.

BTW my CO setting turned out to be 0.25% CO when i complained about engine performance. And the mechanic had set it to 2% according to him a week ago.

My bike's carburettor is tuned to the richer side and it's pretty well evident from the low end pull I get when I twist the throttle. A rich mixture means low F.E but a few days back, I rode continuously for ~100 kms with a pillion at a constant speed of 65 km/h and yet I got a mileage of 53 km/l for the journey. How is that possible?! When I ride the bike at rpms >5k in the city, I still get 37 km/l. I expected ~30 but this has completely swept me off the ground. Is this bike that good?!
This bike is even better. I have got about 40kmph after riding the bike for 80+ most of the times and 100-120 for some time on a ride of 200km. The speed band of 50-60kmph is the economy sweet-spot for the bike. I guess CO setting of 2% gives best of both milage and power. 45kmpl in city riding is very much possible for p200NS.

Cool...just one thing I observed about Res-to-Res method: you dont always get the Res at same level of fuel. there is uncertainty of 3-5 km (fuel keep sloshing in the tank all the time). If you do it for 7-8 litres of petrol then that much error dose not make much diff. But with half a litre petrol its a significant error. Just last week I checked mileage for 1.3 liter petrol twice back-to-back. 1st i got 58 kms second time i got 52. Total about 110 km in 2.6 liters. I was expecting 55 for 1.3 litre, which is what i normally get, and the avg value is just the same.

Do check it 3-4 times preferably with 2-3 liters of petrol at least and report back.

Even I want to change. I have been looking for suitable replacement. There are some good options in 130/70 17" size:

              Pirelli Sports Demon
              Continental ContiGo
              Michelin Pilot Sporty
              Dunlop Arrowmax GT501
MRF RevZ S (R15V2 rear tire)

From What I have seen on internet about these tires all seem to be good, with obvious soft compound tire disadvantages but very good grip.

For upsizing the best option is a 150/60 17" tire which is only about 2-3% more in diameter that 130/70 17" so the effect on dynamics of bike will be less as compared to 140/70.

I could find only 1 tire so far for this size..that is MRF RevZ which comes with Duke200.

One thing for sure all of these tires are marked improvement on the crap Eurogrip tires.

Well, guys i tried to get some answer from Bajaj about the rear tire, i sent them following query:

"Query : I own a Pulsar 200NS since Aug'2012 and have completed about 6700km till date. This is regarding the tires of Pulsar 200NS. I have had enough instances of skidding and fishtailing of rear tire and minor accidents due to which I have lost complete faith in the grip of TVS Eurogrip tires which comes with Pulsar 200NS (please note I never use only rear break and my bikes rear break is already set to much lesser bite by SVC itself). But under panic breaking even with moderate breaking of rear break make the rear tire lock and skid. Just like me, many owners have faced this issue (discussed on online forums e.g. xBHP.com) and almost every owner of 200NS would agree that the tire quality is below-par. I do not want to take risk with my life. Its not worth risking my life for few thousand rupees when much better tires are available out there. My query is: 1. If I change the rear tire to some better brand but with the same specification that is 130/70 17", will that affect the warranty?? 2. If Bajaj objects to changing of rear tire whatsoever, on what basis Bajaj justifies providing crap tires and risking people's lives?? 3. What if I upsize the tire to more fat profile e.g. 150/60?? Would Bajaj have any objection to it during warranty period?? Please note that I have already tried to get answer to this question a number of times both from SVC as well as CC, only to get no replies whatsoever from CC and stupid looks from SVC people. Hoping for speedy reply..."

I sent a mail to CC, no reply for a week, again sent mail, still no reply. Finally posted this on Bajaj Website. Then I got a call from the CC guy. That fellow also gave some vague answers about it, was saying Bajaj has tie up with finest tire brands blah blah blah. After repeatedly asking whether there will be warranty issue if I change tire to say MRF or Pirelli, all he said that the SVC manager in your locality will be able to answer this question and if you don't get answer from them file a complaint against the SVC.

Finally got a call from the work manager of Sai Services, Pune that there is no problem with warranty if one changes to any brand of tire for stock size that is 130/70-17". For upsizing he advised me not to go for it as it will affect the dynamics but even then there will be no warranty issue. That's cool to know.

Well one more good news for all Pune p200NS owners: There is going to be a camp for P200NS in Pune on 7,8,9 March. Bajaj guys will be there and we can show them our bikes and report the issues. Mr. Sandeep, the work manager Sai Services, told me this on a phone call. He said the news is still not hot but as he is talking to me anyways hes letting me know.

OK..this is becoming quite a long post. One issue I am facing. Engine overheating. My bikes engine is heating so much that the perimeter frame, black side pnaels and even the seat gets heated up. I feel heated air all along my legs while riding. I keep checking heating of engine by touching it by hand and it sure is heating more than usual. Funny part is the fan does not get started even when the engine is so hot. But the fan does start when it gets really really hot. The thing is fan works just it has been ever since bike was new. But the engine is overheating despite that. I mean, if i ride my bike for 15km in normal traffic, the fan would not start and engine was only moderately hot. But now engine is quite hot under same riding conditions and fan not started as usual. Seems very fishy...

              • Hi guys....

Completed around 7000 KM on pulsar 200 NS just within 3 - 4 months, while making my ride to Goa have tested this bike like anything.

Its really a good machine for highway... I wish bajaj has given few extra BHP to it. really would have made a great bike.

Almost reached 138+ on this bike, but really on some bike the speedometer error is there.. so don't feel proud or claim to cross 150

Here I am sharing one Video taken by me on the way From Goa -> Bangalore, really an awesome ride

It has been discussed earlier also in this thread that changing tyres will not void the warranty because the warranty on tyres is provided by TVS and not Bajaj. If, for some rason you need to replace your tyre under warranty, the you have to head to TVS trye dealer. signing you are not changing the engine or other parts (which are BAL's concern), it'll do get.

I used to feel the same. Even now, after 6650 kms on the odo, I haven't noticed the fan working even once. But after numerous long rides and continuous hard rip sessions, I noticed the bike would never overheat. After a cold start, it usually heats up pretty fast, hits a particular temperature and remains constant no matter what. So it's safe for me to assume the fan's working and I have nothing to worry about. If you've never noticed the engine overheat warning icon on the console, rest assured, the fan's working.

One design flaw which can be rectified in this bike is the position of the air filter. It would have been better with the filter below the front seat, like the 220. Now thanks to it's position below the tank, a considerable amount of heat reaches the filter from the engine right below and as a result hot air blows into the engine via the carb.
